I was just browsing the UK Kindle Store, and there doesn't appear to be an English version available (at least on this side of the channel). Does anyone know if this is due to contractual issues, or a mistake?
Don't hold your breath. When they released all there novels in e book back in 2012 we only got NJO books and everything post release.
I have the US Kindle edition, so it'd have to be contractual--though that could mean no eBook, or it could mean a delayed eBook. No clue.
Yeah, the bantam stuff is difficult to get hold of, but all the rest of the Journey to The Force Awakens stuff appears to be there. I wouldn't expect the new run of books to be delayed. They have at least one foreign-language version there (German), so I'm slightly baffled if it is contractual. Eh. I'll ask Gray or one of the DR people on Twitter.
... do they no longer hold the licence? EDIT: I checked the publishers, and it's weird. I remember the Legends books being split between Arrow and Orbit in the UK, but now they're split between Arrow and Century, with Lost Stars being pubbed by Century over here. ?????????????????????
Lost Stars is a Disney publishing book--DR still has the license for "adult" novels like Aftermath, but LS is considered a YA book. It is kind of weird, but I guess it boils down to which company has more relevant imprints.
And they're all imprints of RandomHouse. Y'know, for someone who wants to be an author, I probably shouldn't be this confused by publishing. Sent from my E380 using Tapatalk
There's a fiction/non-fiction split as well. OK, it's all fiction to some extent, but something like an Amazing Cross-Sections book is considered non-fiction because it doesn't tell a story. Lost Stars is Disney Lucasfilm Press in the USA, as are (to my knowledge) all of the children's fiction titles. The adult fiction is with Penguin Random House (Del Rey), and non-fiction is spread around the place (DK, Becker & Mayer, etc.) In the UK, the children's fiction (including Lost Stars) is with Egmont, children's non-fiction is with DK, and adult fiction is with Penguin Random House (I think with their Arrow imprint.) DK is also part of PRH, of course. There are also a few outliers like the Jedi Academy books, which are with Scholastic.
You can't buy DLP E-Books on the german version of Amazon either. If I order a hardcopy I get the US version, but e-books are only available in German. For some reason they seem to be selling the e-books exclusively in the US.,
Its frustrateing I've been waiting for years for this http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-X-Wing-Series-Squardon-Squadron-ebook/dp/B008C87QZY
I've checked with Egmont, they don't hold the ebook rights and basically told me to talk to Disney but there isn't any contact details for Lucasfilm Press that I can find. I also asked Jason Fry about it as none of his books are available on Kindle over here. He said he had mentioned it to someone at LFL sometime ago but clearly they're not bothered enough to do anything about it so I guess we'll just never get them over here. Lost Stars and I think one other Journey to... book is on Apple Books but I'm not buying them there as I have no other books there and wouldn't be able to use my Kindle. (Oh but if I learn German I can seemingly buy whatever I want on the UK Kindle store as far as SW goes....) I have to say I find this very frustrating as I want to keep the new continuity digital only if I can, I just don't have space to buy everything physically now so having it all on Kindle seemed like a great idea when the NEU started....I very nearly skipped Lost Stars completely because of this and it's probably my favourite book so far. It also baffles me that they would willingly just miss out on easy revenue in this way, especially with the movie out. Hopefully someone can get in touch with Gray, LFL or whoever and get this sorted.
Wasn't available in Amazon Australia either (but then, we are pretty much ignored by most of the planet, or so it seems). I found it (and all of the other SW books I couldn't access for my kindle on Amazon) for sale on itunes and ibooks.
I've been banging on about this since before Christmas. It seems that the Lucas books are only available on iBooks and not Kindle which is annoying. It was also hard to get a hard copy from Amazon on the day of release - they didn't seem to be able to confirm when they would have it before the actual release date as it was being shipped from Germany for some reason. It doesn't just affect Lost Stars but also the latest character e-book that has been released in the US. We can't get those e-book stories until the hardback book is released later in the year. Of course I wonder if that will hit sales now that we know those characters are pretty inconsequential to the film's plot.
Whilst I agree to some extent, some people do prefer ebooks, it's a purely individual preference not a blanket 'this is better' thing. Myself I've been tending to buy the SW books on Kindle as they don't take up any physical space but are also around £5-6 cheaper than a hardback (I don't want to wait 9+ months for a paperback). As for iBooks, aside from not wanting to spread my ebook library over two services, it doesn't feature Moving Target, Weapon of a Jedi and only includes one of Jason Fry's SW Rebels books.
