With the approval of the Triumvirate - I am excited to announce the creation of a new position among our ranks! @DarthIshyZ has been named Consigliere of the KoD, and while not officially a peon/apprentice/etc, he has always been a reliable and loyal contributor so giving him a proper place in our Order is well deserved.

I know we do not see as much hustle and bustle as our sister group, The True Sith Empire, but you guys and your continued posts/contributions are what keeps us alive. So, thank you all! And please join me in saying congrats to our newest addition. =D=

Darth Lowe's... My wife and I go there regularly. We love the recordings when people need help. Yet, we "misquote" it to "Frontal labotamy needed in the cranial area."

    And, thanks!

My mom and I went there about a year ago for flowers for the beds out back. The young woman helping us was developmentally delayed, and her lack of helpful advice annoyed my mom to no end. She groused about it on the drive home, never mind the fact her autistic daughter was the one who went with her.

    @Kaleesh-Cyborg , @Lady Belligerent , @Sinrebirth, @Darth_wanderguard

For my latest assignment, I had to choose the dark side creature of my choosing and discuss not only why I chose it, but also research into their in history, their origin, biology, etc. I settled on the rancor, not only because their name means inveterate hate but because dying at the hands of a whiny Jedi is not a glorious introduction. Especially when rancors have a glorious history serving Darksiders as war mounts as daunting to the enemy as Hannibal's war elephants were to the Roman legions.
Despite what was seen at Jabba's Palace in "Return on The Jedi", rancors are the GFFA's equivalent of Hannibal's war elephants. Originally, they evolved on Dathomir becoming apex predators in the jungle environment. Their berserker personalities made them popular with game hunters, and according to the Legends! tales, they were exported to Felucia by large game hunters. Writings from Legends! sources indicate that the sudden change in planetary climate led to a substantial evolutionary move away from aggressive personalities into something more docile. Not the sort of creature Dark-Side wielding Nightsisters would consider worthy of being used as war mounts.

From a biological standpoint, rancors straddle the line between reptile and mammal. Like mammals, they bear live young and carry them around for a period of two to three years when they are old enough to fend for themselves. Full grown, they stand at 16 feet in height, when newly hatched heights can vary from 6 to 9 feet. They can likewise be classified as reptiles because they are carnivores and they have scaly skin. On Earth, they would be considered an offshoot of therapods, or warm-blooded mammal-like reptiles who burrowed underground and were around towards the latter end of the Jurassic Age. It should also be noted that rancors are noted to occasionally eat their young, proving Darwinian evolution is alive and well on Dathomir.

From the historical perspective, Dathomirian witches have been using the rancors as war beasts for less than a millennium. After an exiled Jedi began teaching the locals how to use the Force, both Light and Dark Side wielders began using their powers to control the local wildlife, following the dictates of religion. Among their uses was taming the rancor via the Force and singing. Once rancors were bonded to a particular witch, they were used as war beasts. Rancors were seen as an extension of a user's Force powers, by bonding with these fierce creatures, the Nightsisters could not only protect their clans but also use the rancor's aggressive tendencies on whoever was seen as an enemy. Also, the symbiotic relationship between rancor and rider also held religious overtones, as said partnership demonstrated a balance between the duality of life and death.

As far as being used by the Sith, the rancor is a natural choice for use as a mount. First of all, evolution on a world strong with the Dark Side has led to naturally aggressive tendencies. Secondly, because they can be tamed by using the Dark Side, it is mutually beneficial to both Sith and rancor as both feed off of aggression and other base instincts. Ergo, if we Sith want a war mount that fits us and who we are, what better creature than the rancor?

Very good work, my apprentice. Now tell us, if you were selecting a Rancor for your own personal use, what qualities would you seek in an ideal specimen?

Let me see. I would ramp up its height to 18 feet because if I used it for my daily commute down to Falls Church, I would be able to dominate morning traffic on US 29/Lee Highway. I would make its drool superheated so icy roads would no longer be a hindrance, and I would cut down its calorie intake to no more than 2 frozen turkeys a day to be satisfied. Also, I would up the maternal instinct so it would not gorge itself on my charges.

Nirauan Daybreak: Hosted by Dravis Sye

    "Exclusive Interview"

    * * *

    Unknown Regions Holonet, Frequency 88.597

The HoloNet broadcast returns after a short commercial break, once again playing through the main title theme before the camera cycles in on the set. Dravis Sye, sitting casually with one leg crossed over the other, smiles smartly at the camera and nods. Sye is a middle-aged human with a sharp suit and neatly coiffed hair; he exudes an air of confidence.

“Welcome back, folks. For those who are just tuning in to our broadcast this morning, I am here with the Imperium of the Fist’s chief political advisor, Prime Minister Aryan Graul.”

The camera pulls back to reveal Aryan sitting across from Sye; his hands are resting casually on the table and his emotions carefully guarded behind an enigmatic grin.

“The Prime Minister just got through sharing with us some of his comprehensive views for Nirauan’s future, and while we’re all eager to see how the negotiations fare for everyone involved, I thought we could switch gears for a moment and have some fun.” The man raises his brow, a small smirk dancing over his features. “Would you be willing to play a little game with us?”

Aryan scoffs and shifts uncomfortably in his chair, dipping his chin slightly to hide the amusement on his face. “That depends on what you had in mind.”

Sye chuckles lightly and extends a hand to appease his guest.

“It’ll be harmless, I promise. In light of the new Galactic Standard Year, I thought it would be fun to delve into the topic of resolutions. We’re already a month in, but it’s never too late to set those goals for ourselves and make changes to live a more positive life. I’m curious, Prime Minister – do you have any resolutions that you set for yourself this year?”

The Prime Minister shakes his head marginally and reclines back, offering a small shrug. “Does anyone truly believe in that anymore? I thought that was always an arbitrary thing.” He laughs lightly.

Sye returns the laugh, shifting his weight to become more comfortable. “Well, I have to be completely honest with you, I’ve already given up on my goals by the second week. There you go – there’s my confession for the day. So, how about you? Anything at all?”

    “Ruling the galaxy.”

“Is that…” Narrowing his eyes, Sye clears his throat and raises a hand, pinching his index finger and thumb together. “Surely, that’s not an accurate statement.”

Raising his brow, Aryan’s expression remains sincere for a painfully long moment before he breaks out into a candid smile. “No, not at all. You did say to have some fun with this, right? In all sincerity, I hope to become a better leader – to be more attuned to the needs of the people and bring the Imperium, and by extension, Nirauan, into a brighter future. We all struggle, and I hope to overcome that adversity and come into my own here.”

Sye cants his head curiously. “Struggle? Are you referencing anything specific?”

“We all face challenges, Dravis, I merely want to conquer them in my own time.”

“Fair enough.” The man nods, pressing his hands to his chin. “What else can you tell us?”

“Well, I don’t know if too many people know this…” Aryan appears to angle his chin towards the audience and smirks. “...but I used to be one hell of a pilot when I was younger – I flew with the, uh...Republic Navy for several years. But with my time in public service, I haven’t had the opportunity to get inside the cockpit as often as I would like. I hope to change that this year and brush up on some of my skills. It’s been a long time.”

Sye is following along intently, and he even nods his head in agreement. “Ah, see, Prime Minister? We are learning more about you all the time. Who knows, if all goes well with the negotiations, perhaps you could escort me around in one of those fancy new Incom-model fighters.”

“I’ll be happy to take you up on that.”

“Excellent! I’m sure we can set something up after the show.” Lowering his hands, Sye presses forward against the table and glances down at his wrist chrono. “Looks like we have time for one more – anything else you would like to share?”

Aryan seems to hesitate, exhaling heavily, before giving a curt nod. “I’ll leave it off on a positive note – live life to the fullest and devote more time for those who are important. We tend to lose track of the material things when life is rushing by you at lightspeed. You need to take a step back and re-evaluate what’s right there in front of you to fully appreciate the cards you’ve been dealt. It’s a bit of advice we could all use at this crucial time.”

“An interesting choice of words, Prime Minister. Are you...referring to anything, or anyone, in particular?

Canting his head, Aryan flashes a devilish grin. “I’ll leave that up to your own interpretation. But I will say this – we could all use someone special in our lives, someone we can lean on for support.”

“You’re absolutely right.” Sye smiles and extends a hand for Aryan to shake. “It’s been a pleasure, Prime Minister. Thank you for spending the morning with us, and good luck with the upcoming negotiations.”

“Of course, Dravis, thanks for having me.”

I really like the idea of superheated drool. I might even pay you to run that Rancor up and down my driveway a few times. Also very clever making sure that your otherwise dangerous pet will do nothing to jeopardize your livelihood and such. Very good. +3 prestige.
