Fluke: I haven't heard from him in a while. I think he's doing a move right now. Also, there are 10 character positions that need to be filled. If anyone would like to start posting ideas, please be my guest. I'll start posting my ideas asap.

OK, I'd like to know when are we going to start the fic - are we going to do the planning first, or we'll just decide on the rough plotline and will plan as we go?

 

Well, at this point we don't have any characters, so that's the first thing we need. After that we can probably start the first couple of posts.

 

OK, I guess everyone should define his/her ( ) character first, describe them and their personalities. I suggest we started with the "highest ranks" - like first we define the commanders and such, and then the "regular" guys... I definitely don't want to have any leading guy, so I'll wait.

 

This might be a little picky, but does anyone know what the command structure of the team was? I know that Han was in overall command, and that Luke, Leia, and Chewie were the shuttle crew. But how was the strike team actually structured? Was it a platoon-sized element? A company?

That will help with ranks as well as characters. At least it will for me. Thanks.

Well, as far as I can tell the mission was structured like this:

Han Solo was in overall command of the mission with Major Bren Derlin leading the commandos themselves. To give you some perspective on rank all of my sources say that Page was a "trooper". There were 10 other commandos, but other than that I haven't seen anything about who was actually part of the commandos or what their ranks were.

 

Hello all, I'm not asking to be part of the creative drive of this team (not that I don't want to, but it seems like there are already plenty of people who are in), but I thought I'd chime in.
From what I know of military squads (both actual squads and from other sci-fi) a standard squad would be about 12 people--I think there were twelve on Derlin's strike force, so that works. Specialties I think would be something like: 1 commander; 1 or 2 pilots; 1 or 2 field technicians; 1 comms; 2 demolitions; 2 heavy artillery; 2 snipers; 1 medics.
Another technical observation/question: I'm pretty sure in the film all the members of the team were male humans. Are you going to be keeping with that idea, because if not I think it would be cool to throw in an alien species among the ranks; like a Shistavanen Wolfman sniper, or a Gotal medic or something.

I'll take on the medic role, since I'm fairly knowledgable about such things. However, I don't know if I can do this, unless we kill my character off fairly soon because I leave in 1 month, 12 days.

I talked to TSL last night and he really wants to continue with this story, but he won't have much internet access for a few more days. So for everyone that is still interested I'll be making posting for him probably later tonight with some character ideas, etc.

 

What's a field technician? I don't really want to be a pilot or the others, so once I find out what this is then I can play the part.

 

To my knowledge, the field technician could do anything from being a mechanic for a speeder or ship, to computer programming/splicing (although that may venture into the comms department too) to setting up the camps the squad sleeps at.
It may also be worth noting that in the case of the two heavy artillery guys and the two demolitions guys, one of them would be a specialist while the other an assistant--one would fire the gun/plant the bomb, the assistant would carry the equipment and help set it up.

 

Ok cool, I'll be the field technician. Can my character be female.

I want to be an infiltrator, skilled at hijacking anything from speeder bikes to imp walkers.

If not, I wanna be either the Bombadier or a sniper.

 

I believe we already have 2 snipers.
