This game looks like it's going to be pretty sweet. You can follow their progress at apeirongame.com and @apeiron_kotor on Twitter. The screenshots look outstanding.

    WHAT IS APEIRON

Apeiron is a full-conversion mod of the Knights of the old Republic that was released in 2003. Apeiron is a overhaul and restructure of the original game with added content, new worlds, missions, HUD, inventory, items, and customization

Apeiron is being made in Unreal Engine 4, along with other up-to-date programs. It is being developed by a small indie studio with big ideas. Once released the game will be 100% free to the public, the only required cost is the purchase of the original game: Knights of the Old Republic which is needed to run Apeiron.

Lucasfilm will shut them down sooner or later I'm afraid.

Jett Lucas on Twitter retweeted videos supporting the project. Disney is gonna be focused on money and not so much on legacy.

It was pretty much inevitable. They were basically re-creating KotOR in another engine. That's a deathwish when it comes to a well known and actively used property like Star Wars.

Yup, love it or loathe it, that's just how IP law works. That's why Hasbro cracked down on My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic, a free fighting game made by fans. They had no intention of making their own fighting game with ponies, or any commercially available MLP game for that matter. But IP law dictated they issue a take down notice, and the fans just didn't have the money to fight their case.

If someone is thinking of making a fan game, what you should do is not announce your intentions publicly. Just work on it in secret and release it onto the web when its done. By the time you get a take down notice people will be playing it and helping it spread like wildfire.
