I'm a Girl Scout leader.
On Saturday I'll be leaving for London and Paris with my Girl Scout troop (Girl Guides).
The girls are 16 years old and some of them have been together since kindergarten!

I'm just curious, when does Derisa plan on having us revisit Kirney? Or the other Rogues, for that matter? (She doesn't even tell her betareader what she's got cooked up these days, I'm in as much suspense as the rest of you!)

There's another new post on its way today, I hope. Much applause and kudos to my beta reader, Rani Veko , for all her hard work. I have four stories on the go right now, and she's betaing three of them, post by post. She's so patient with me!

Just catching up ... the plot thickens! Looking forward to more, as usual!

 

Despite the fact that I have virtually NO time for anything beyond that to which I'm already committed, I sat down to begin reading this fic for one reason, and one reason only - the fact that YOU wrote it. But then I read your intro - and decided to hold off. I figure if you're that sold on the novel - which I have not read - maybe I should take a peek before I dig into this because I really do not like to 'spoil' a good story.

So I'll hold off a while, assuming that this will still be around when I'm ready. And you should know that I NEVER read OT - but for your lovely prose, I'll make an exception.

Cynical, the entire X-Wing series is well worth the read, but if you just want to get the background on this story, read the Wraith novels within that series, all written by Aaron Allston. I think you will find them well worth the while.

The ersatz CorSec officer asked Rij where might be a decent place to grab a bite, and the friendly puller recommended a working-class eatery just down the block. "It's not too bad, especially when you consider the price."

He waited till the puller's back was turned, then left enough credit chits on the counter to cover his drink. [i]Even if 'that's the way things are,"[/i] Myn thought, [i]That doesn't mean I have to participate in what is obviously extortion.[/i]

In a smooth motion, Myn slid off the stool. He thanked the puller for his time, and pulled his shades out of his pocket before stepping back out into the street. He didn?t notice the considering glance he got from a shadow-shrouded figure near the door, nor did he notice when that same figure followed him a few moments later.

Comfortably full of the food of his old homeworld, with that ingrained feeling of rightness that comes from breathing the same air and feeling the same gravity as he had been born to, Myn Donos felt more relaxed than he had in a good long while. The sun had slipped below the horizon, and the sky began to sparkle with many tiny lights, more ships than stars just yet, but Myn could fondly recall the brilliance of the stars seen from this perspective, and he was eagerly awaiting the oncoming night.

He returned to the Crater, which was considerably more lively now that night had fallen. There was barely elbow room at the polished bar, but Myn got a nod of acknowledgement from Rij, and another tall glass of that fine micro-brewed lomin at his elbow a few seconds later.

The formality of even his off-duty uniform marked him as an authority figure, and he soon had plenty of elbow-room as his neighbours vacated, looking for less-official company. Myn sipped his lomin and kept his ears open, listening in on the few snippets of conversation that passed his way. Some shippers were complaining about the Triad's new regulations regarding minimum shipping payments, and in another corner, two sabacc players were arguing about the flux timing settings on the table.

[i]It's a pretty normal little cantina, [/i] Myn noted. [i]I wonder if that's what draws her here?[/i]

The idle curiosity brought to mind the image he'd last seen of her, as she informed the caller where to leave messages for her. He still hadn't commed back though, unsure of what exactly he should say. [i]This is such new ground for me.[/i]

There was no denying that his heart had leapt when he'd seen her almost-familiar face, and heard her voice, now roughened somewhat with a rather convincing Corellian accent. He didn't know really who she was, but there was no denying she had a powerful effect on him.

"Who is she?" he was asked, the question startling him out of his reverie. His eyes snapped to his left, where the speaker leaned against the bar, almost touching him.

"I beg your pardon?" he asked in return.

"Whoever you're thinking about," the woman replied. She shucked off her grey cloak and draped it over the stool. "Who is she?" Her lips were very full, and pouted somewhat as she smiled up at him. Myn had the definite impression this woman would not like the answer.

"What makes you think I'm thinking of anyone?" Myn evaded the question.

She shrugged, and the whiteness of her rounded shoulders caught his eye. She was clad in a clingy tank of shimmery grey fabric, which contrasted nicely to her pale complexion and very dark hair. She was attractive in a lush sort of way, a woman who was all curves, but as Myn observed her, the image of Lara's slender neck and fine-boned form came immediately to his mind's eye, providing clear contrast. He rather doubted this girl would be of any us

 

Loving this.

I like Axel as well, he seems like a cool guy!

I've been posting Derisa's stories for her while she's been out of town and saddled with a poor internet connection, but now I myself am going on vacation for the next week, starting today.

This means that although she may have posts ready to add, she might not necessarily be able to post them until at least one of us returns next week, no later than the August 13th.

Keep an eye out for new posts, and hope for the best, and above all be patient: Derisa is experiencing technical difficulties beyond her control. Please stand by.

He showered and towelled off, and had just pulled on a pair of pajama bottoms to get ready for bed. His towel was still slung around his neck, catching stray drops from his damp hair, when his door alert sounded. Instantly suspicious, Myn slid his blaster free of its holster and checked the charge, before stepping over to the door. Standing a little to the side, he asked who it was.

?It?s Orine.? Myn was very surprised to hear a female voice answer him, low and sultry. ?We met at the Crater?? the woman continued, as though to jog his memory.

?I recall,? Myn answered as he triggered the door mechanism. ?How did you get in to the building?? He stood blocking the access to his room, one dark brow raised in a direct questioning look.

The woman simpered up at him. ?This isn?t the first time I?ve ?worked? for CorSec,? she said slyly, ?Can I come in??

He thought about it, but he didn't really have a good reason to leave a lady standing around in a public hallway. Myn gave a brusque nod and stepped out of the way to let her in, reaching for his holster to sheathe his blaster. It took him a few seconds to recall the woman?s full name. ?Was there something you wanted, Miss Vaylla??

She gave a coy smile and let her eyes wander over his body, making Myn acutely aware that he was not exactly dressed for polite company. ?You could say that,? she replied, slipping out of her grey cloak. Something about the plainness of the garment jogged Myn?s memory, but he couldn?t devote the concentration to finding out what at the moment. He gestured for his visitor to go on.

?I couldn?t help but notice that you got stood up,? Orine said at last.

Myn shook his head. ?My friend is off-world at present. She?ll be back in a day or two.? He deliberately shortened the estimate of Kirney?s return, in hopes to discourage the woman.

?Ah. Well, I am sure I could provide you with some... distraction, while you wait?? She let a hand trail down her face and catch at her lips in a very sensuous gesture.

Myn shook his dark head. ?No, I don?t think so, Miss Vaylla. I was pretty clear in the tapcafe, and I haven?t changed my mind, so...? He took her arm above the elbow and escorted her gently but firmly to the door.

?Alright, look, CorSec, I?m just doing what I have to to get by, just like Rij and your precious Kirney Slane, just like everyone else, okay.? She jerked her arm out of his grasp. ?You don?t have to get all uptight on me.?

Myn froze when she mentioned Kirney?s name. He thought back to the time he?d spent in the Crater, in her company, and he couldn?t recall mentioning Kirney?s name in her hearing. ?Hold it,? he said firmly, uncosciously imitating another of Corran?s authoritative voice tones, ?How did you know I was waiting for Kirney Slane??

The frown melted away from the woman?s face. ?I asked Rij,? she said with facile smile. ?Why? What?s she done?? It seemed less genuine curiosity and more of a morbid gossip-mongering attitude, putting Myn on edge again.

?Nothing that I know of,? he replied. ?Honestly, she?s an old friend, and I just want to reconnect.?

Orine gave him an intense appraisal, her round face cocked a little to the side as she weighed his words. At length she shrugged. ?Alright, fine. I can take a hint.? She slung her cape back over her pale shoulders and stepped over to his door. ?Well, if there is anything I can do, just let me know.?

Myn nodded gravely, and then his face grew serious, as he recalled something that he wanted to investigate. As one of the likely victims of the police extortion, perhaps Orine could help him in his initial searchings. ?Actually, there?s a couple of things...?

Orine listened while he detailed some of the things he wanted to know, but gestured him to silence when she caught the gist of his requests. ?Not here, CorSec, you do *not* want to be talking about that here.?

Realising she had a good point, there was a very likely possibility that the visiting officer?s quarters were monitored, Myn nodded. He might want to be more circumspect in investigating t
