Trump loves the Saudis for doing things like that. It's part of the gothic slideshow. I'm truly disturbed not only by how the Saudis kill women like her, but about all the activists they've imprisoned and killed. It does not get enough attention. Like you guys say, they're our ally and have been since the 1940s. We overthrew Saddam Hussein when he had less power to exact these crimes, and we held the hands of and kissed the princelings that did this. And I remember Bush kissing and being affectionate with more Saudi royals than anyone else. Such a disgusting thing to see when you're in high school, man. This monarchy is, by default, totalitarian. They've turned their country into a hell on earth, and many go along with it because they believe the monarchy is the custodian of the two holy sites. Many are afraid.

We need to commend the women who stand up to these regimes. Women over here have plenty to do, but just imagine how hard it is for activists in countries where even more people are against you. Talk about bravery. That's one thing that troubles me about policy. We have Susan B. Anthonys around the world, and they need more attention.

The only thing that surprises me is the fact they're not in the Big 10. They would be right at home.

Brie Larson Was Told to Smile, So She Put Smiles onto Marvel Dudes

The Captain Marvel trailer that dropped Tuesday excited fans not just because it showed a badass Brie Larson showing off the usual suite of superpowers—flying, super strength, shooting energy from her fingertips—but because it's the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first film centered around a woman.

But the trailer also brought out the usual sexist trolls. A stew of mostly male social media users prejudged Larson's performance, calling it
"wooden" and claiming she ought to "smile more"—a very common form of harassment that objectifies women by implying their emotions and appearance ought to be controlled and that they're for the pleasure of others.

I don't recall anybody ever saying that a male Marvel character should smile more..

Good article, and it's accurate. After being sexually assaulted as an adolescent in 2003, in the following years, I was questioned and mocked about the incidents in question. That was one reason why I did not report being harmed in my late twenties, and my best friend/eponym later taught me to be more self-protective.

I'm glad her rapist apologized. That rarely occurs. But bringing more education and self-awareness to the culture are essential.

I could have posted this in the "Race" Relations thread and probably gotten away with it, at the risk of some tone deafness. That place seems more reserved for current events. Police brutality toward black men. White women who use the n-word when exiting public transportation and consequently become bloodied white women.

Cult of Inter-sec-tion-al-ity. The guest on our show today is a black female by the name of Hattie McDaniel who made a stride or two for women of color in Tinseltown.

    . . . That's slang for Hollywood.

Ms. McDaniel passed away at age 57 from breast cancer. She stated in her will that wished to be buried in Hollywood Cemetery. Her request was denied for sad but obvious reasons.

Gentlemen, get ready: the revolution is here

"She extols female fury. The book is occasionally reckless, indiscriminate in its rolling criticism of the “Beltway press,” but Traister is right about so much, especially rage and how it’s not accepted in our society for women to show it. Imagine if Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) had vented the way Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) had. Imagine, further, if Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) had, like Graham, been a Trump critic one day and his dear friend the next. You know the dreadful labels. Harris: another angry black woman. Klobuchar: another dizzy dame."
    :
"This moment is not likely to pass. Women’s anger will not subside. Many older white men will not wise up because they are trapped in their own skin and experiences. The very hard work of thinking this through — of rerouting ossified synapses — will not be done. It is more comforting for some of them to rely on bromides and use the appalling sexist formulas of yesteryear for explanations."

"But like Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who was confronted last week by protesters in an elevator, there is no escape. The revolution, gentlemen, is here."

Or imagine if you put Alex Jones in a female body. He never would've had an audience, because women aren't supposed to have strong personalities.

I have yet to meet a female Alex Jones. But I've met a cisgender female Trump. It wasn't a pretty sight. But, then, my life after college got pretty odd in my late twenties because the Mid-Cities was a bizarre place.

Technically, my roommate and I were born in female bodies by virtue of our brains. If we actually were cis men, then we would probably be boring. As it is, I'm only boring to folks like JRod, so I'm content with that. Heh. The concept of the female body being defined by childbirth and a monthly cycle is the stereotype. However, it is also true that women who are transgender but also cisgender (with things like PCOS) are just as feminine as cisgender women who can have children. I'm sure you know this, Ava, but I'm just putting this on the record once more. ;)

I believe the good thing to come out of this is that many women are uniting with one another. Those who support Trump have problems with self-loathing, and in some cases, they are pitiable. Living in Texas, I've met many women who hate Trump, but many older women like him here. My grandfather-figure's wife is among the few who hates him. (My granddad-figure is basically a New Dealer. You guys would like him. He was nothing but kind to his late first wife, and he's been thoughtful and giving to his second one. He got married again after his first wife died ten years ago. He's an example of a man of the early 20th century who adapted. How many ministers can you name tell a ninth grader in 2002 that abortion should be a universal right and that there is no such thing as Satan? Not many.

Alex Jones is an insecure fool. He was domineering toward his ex-wife, and she left him. Didn't she get custody of his kids? I hope so. Also, he's gross. He creeps us trans ladies out by looking at trans porn. He loves to hate us, and we find him to be dangerous and unstable. The way he treated those families of Sandy Hook kids was dreadful. He should have been tried and found guilty of defamation and encouraging threats.

Someone asked my mom the other day if she was a Republican, and she said no, she's a libertarian. First time I've ever heard her say she's not a Republican in my life, but Trump will do that.

Society will be better when people generally celebrate women for being powerful as much as they celebrate men for being powerful. I'm glad I'm amongst people who appreciate strength in humanitarians of all stripes.

Cool story bro. The point was that women are leaving the Republican party. Who cares if they vote for randos who will never win. The point is that they're not voting for Republicans, and that's a good thing.

I don’t know if you heard of this, but a very talked-about news this summer in Japan was a highly reputed Tokyo medical university admitting they have been manipulating entrance exams’ scores for years based on gender, because they “didn’t want too many female doctors”.

The Guardian reported on it: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...hool-admits-changing-results-to-exclude-women

This only came to light – and an admission was forced – because of an on-going investigation and a lot of pressure from the numerous victims. And also because it was a high-profile university. One only has to wonder if this practice is also going on in other universities.
(additionally, there is a lot of discussion going on right now whether or not Japanese universities are also race-bias in entrance admissions)

I constantly hear people saying that “feminism is no longer needed in civilized countries where women can vote, geez why don’t you focus on Islamic counties that practice the Sharia law or smh”. Worse is when the arguments distort the concept of feminism to make it all about “imposing Western values on other cultures”. See, East Asian cultures are just different, the women there are just happy to conform to their society norms.

Anyway, this just one of many examples to why 1) feminism is still needed in so-called “civilized” countries and 2) it’s not about “imposing Western values” because women in other countries also have a voice and and a right to be treated as equals, even if they were born in more patriarchal cultures.

Yeah I'd read about that as well. It sadly doesn't surprise me because Japan is very male-dominated, probably even moreso than the West. But I'm glad there are at least people there able and willing to investigate and push the matter.

But what will happen with the women who were wronged?
