Is this in any way different from the original adaptation?

Yeah, I don't know why IDW is charging so much. I hope it's a beefier and better story than normally offered by their writers.

I'm unfamiliar with the original adaptation. Based on some quick research, it sounds like the original adaptation collected issues 1-6 from 1977. This new hardcover collects all of Marvel's 40th anniversary cover art retelling the story of A New Hope - as illustrated by some of the industry's most gifted artists, including Stuart Immonen, Adi Granov, Kevin Wada, Terry Dodson, Stephanie Hans and others. Also included are sketches and pencils, commentary, essays and the original Star Wars #1 from 1977 that began Marvel's adaptation of the saga. So it sounds like a more custom piece of work than simply a collection of previous comic issues. I would definitely recommend checking it out physically before buying.

Marvel have done just a collection of cover art previously.

 

It is actually quite different from the original adaption. I highly recommend everyone takes a second to look at the "Look Inside" feature on Amazon.
Basically the story of A New Hope is told through all the 40th anniversary variant covers. You have the cover on the right page, and a written description on the left side, along with cover sketches. I originally had no interest in it, but once I saw a preview I realized there's more to it than I thought. They really should have provided an explanation of what this is, I always thought was just a cover gallery.

 

Wow, yeah, that’s not what I thought it was originally at all. So a cover art gallery with editors notes to help guide the reader through the story of ANH. Interesting. I’ll glance through it at the library, but not something I would purchase.

So I've been collecting the Marvel Epic Collections, but I just stumbled across the Marvel omnibuses for The Original Marvel Years 1-3. Are we expecting all of the material contained in these Marvel omnibuses to be reprinted within Epic Collections in the future?

My local dealer said he didn't receive Star Wars Adventures #10, anyone else being told the same?

So last week SWA #10 didn't show up at my local shop, got it this week. This week, Poe #27 didn't show up. I can see from the forums that some did in fact receive #27. Is it pretty common for some shops to receive copies while others don't? Last week was the first time my shop hadn't received something that other shops got. For this to happen two weeks in a row is a bit concerning to me as my shop is the only one in my area. I just hope Poe #27 is there next week...

Changing tack, has that odd 40th Anniversary ANH book from Marvel come out yet so I can know what it actually is?

 

It has, and it's the same thing it was initially announced to be: an artbook featuring all 48 Star Wars 40th Anniversary variant covers re-telling a new hope plus a bonus cover gallery and a reprint of Star Wars (1977) #1.
