So the last time I bought a gaming console was a Playstation 2.

I understand Playstations now allow you to buy the games online, right? If I buy a slim PS4 1TB for $270 on Amazon, would I be able to buy any of the games I want for it using it? And any PS3 games that have passed me by over the years?

The thing about the Slim model is that you'll need to watch your hard drive space. Certain games like Red Dead Redemption 2 require 100gb of space, alone. I have the standard model, but with an accessory that lets me swap in larger capacity Desktop Hard Drives (currently at 3TB). They can't promise every game you're looking for from the PS3 will be available on PSN, but it's worth it to look at.

The PS4 isn't backwards compatible with the PS3, most games for the latter won't work. The exception are titles that specifically have a PS4 listing under their platforms on the Playstation Store, but those are "actually" multiplatform games with a PS4 release.

Yeah, it's not backwards compatible. However, I find that most of the really good PS3 games have been remastered or re-released for PS4.

Except Mass Effect. Had to buy that on PC recently so I can replay that whole trilogy, because EA just refuses to re-release it and make easy money.

Honestly if I had to recommend something to do with PS4, I would recommend getting a PS4 Pro bundle. It runs games a lot better and is especially nice if you have a 4k TV.

That is, of course, if you can afford it. The slim is absolutely fine if you can't, though. Either way, I definitely recommend getting a PS4 because there are soooo many great games on it, many of them exclusives.

I also haven’t played Uncharted 4 but that’s because I have a backlog of games the size of Mount Everest and not a lot of time to play them. Well until now that is. I will happily take advantage of it if it’s free on PS Plus though.

Not wild about the default color scheme but it looks like it might have good hand feel, which is all you can ever really ask for.

I like it. And they will have other colors. Mostly, it still has a 3.5mm jack sooo that's good.

I love it just feels strange not having the iconic mostly unchanging 20+ yr design. But I love it. Reminds me of Pro controller more then XB and I’m wild about color scheme but I’m sure I’ll buy a solid color at some point.

Ok design, sounds like it'll charge by USB-C this generation. By now seems like the Switch Pro, Xbox and PS controllers keep getting closer in design. Kind of a space-age feel to it almost. Now I'm more curious what the actual PS5 will look like, given that color scheme. Even if I'm leaning towards not buying one this year now (though I'd still really like one).

I think it's pretty likely we'll see a two-tone white and black color scheme for the PS5 now, yeah. Which I'm ok with. Honestly I don't care much what it looks like, I care that it fits in my shelves and that's it.

ZOMG since I now have tomorrow off in a surprise move by our CEO, I just realized I'll be able to spend it playing FFVII Remake! SQUEE!

So long as it doesn't look like the banana controller, I'm happy.

Ooh, more of the PS games I wanted. Hopefully I have the storage space for all 3 on top of the ones that came with it, plus Titanfall 2 and maybe still have room left over for Cyberpunk... going to get Spidey and JFO physically eventually so that conserves some space evn though they'll no doubt have installs.

You don't need the storage space right away. You can claim the games now and download later.

But yes, I have both those games already but I am still glad they released them to everyone.

I just started the free trial of PS Now.
Streamed about three games to test the speed and visual quality. It was pretty good.

True. I suppose that, given the limited number of PS4 games I ultimately intend to own, it would have been ideal to be able to fit all of the non-physical ones on the drive without having to data juggle- but that may have been a pipedream.

Though, I suppose I won't miss the presence of Horizon Vector Resolve if it stays in the cloud until I get around to it sometime this decade ;).

You have to install physical games also, the only way to circumvent data juggling is to slap on a massive external drive. Which is totally worth it, IMO, as games will load slightly faster off an external drive because the SATA cables in the PS4 are awful! :p

Yeah, if I end up expanding the scope of what I intend this system's library to be for me by enough, I might do that. Have only done that once, so far, with the Wii U, though at the rate I'm buying games on the Switch, it's feasible I'll have to get an extra SD card for that one day.

At the same time, though, the PS4 is about to become a legacy system and I don't think the investment in a drive would ultimately be worth it at this juncture. But I suppose that will depend on Cyberpunk and how hard I get into it.

I got an SD card for my Switch right away, and I'm definitely glad I did because that sucker is like half full and it's 200GB.

But yeah I don't have an external drive for my PS4 or PS4Pro. I just re-download stuff when I actually want to play it and delete it when I'm done. My save data stays in the cloud anyway.

I'm waiting to play Cyberpunk on the PS5 at this stage I think. Maybe The Last of Us 2 as well, depending on when it comes out. I think the last big game I'll be playing on PS4 before the switch to PS5 is Ghost of Tsushima.
