For Trilogy Tuesday here there were between 8-10 people in costume. It was kind of disappointing because the theater was sold out and there were a ton of people....but we had a couple ringwraiths, a couple hobbits, a few warriors and two elves (myself being one of them as Arwen).

It just makes the experience even more fun (in my opinion) if you can dress up. And the news people have a field day with you too. ;)

sithgoblin3 - Try [link=http://www.alleycatscratch.com] Alley Cat Scratch [/link]. Most everything you need you should be able to find there.

Also, there's a LOTR costume group on yahoo (I think the link may be on ACS as well) that has some great info.

I know exactly what you mean Hothgirl. I have come to believe that the only people in costume were the ones that had read Tokiens works prior and were already attached to characters we hadn't even really seen much of yet.

Okay, I got my pictures up. I didn't take as many as I thought I had-- will have to get pics from my friends. But these will do for now. Also, really need to fix the side boning in the girl-hobbit bodice.

I'm the Chase Dress Arwen in the group picture on the girl-hobbit photo page.

Wow CrimsonVision your mourning gown is amazing!

JainaMSolo I love your Chase dress - all the others with you did a great job on their costumes too!

I totally agree with the others who said that Trilogy Tuesday was totally amazing, and that RotK was emotionally draining.

My head is still full of all the images.

Here is a pic of all the costumes at our theatre (only 12 out of a few hundred); I'm the Eowyn on the far right (beside the very tall hobbit):

    [link=http://sistersola.com/TrilogyTuesday-Coquitlam-Dec-16-03b.jpg]Trilogy Tuesday[/link].

I'm going to see RotK again on Friday. I can't believe it was only 3:20 hours - it flew by so fast, despite the fact that I'd been sitting in that seat all day already!

Wow - I haven't checked on this thread in a while :) Crimson your Mourning gown looks beautiful. I'm glad you got it done in time for the LOTR premiere.

Jaina Your hobbit costumes are so cute, and I like your chase dress as well :)

I went to Trilogy Tuesday with my husband yesterday in San Francisco. There were at best 15 people in costume (maybe closer to 10). A few elf women (no costume that I could recognize though) One or two Legolas, a few male hobbits - etc.

I have to re-do the muslin for about the 4th time now on my Mourning Gown. When I took photos at Neiman Marcus last week - Maggie noticed that one of my photos showed a drop waist seam! So, it's back to the drawing board for me. I'm a little upset that I haven't moved past the muslin stage, but in the end I think that I will get a better drape on the skirt. I wasn't 100% satisfied with my early results - and now I guess I know why :)

I do plan to get this done by February for a Lord of the Rings themed costume ball taking place in San Mateo, California.

    http://www.peers.org/king.html

I figure that should be fun - everyone should have costumes for that!

Oh, wow. This has been the most interesting two days ever.

I almost finished my Requiem dress, the only thing was the overdress was unhemmed and the neck trim was partly held on with sequins. I ended up using it as a facing as well for a shortcut, but plan on removing it, finishing the embroidery, and then re-attaching it to the bodice, which I plan to line. The velvet overdress was about two feet too long and unhemmed at 11:00 p.m., and we were leaving for the theater. I wound up just holding it at shoulder height, handing it off to my friend Pat to hold up that high, making a cut at the bottom, and tearing the hem straight across. It worked fine, even though I left a trail of fuzzies after me 8-}. I got compliments from complete strangers on it and people nudged me when my dress was recognizable for a few seconds on screen. VERY gratified I was to finally see that dress in one of the films!! (Still tired, ergo, talking like Yoda I am...) My sister wore the Eowyn jumper that I made for her, even though we didn't get the blue layer finished. She wore it over a maroon sweater and it looked very nice, the colors were lovely and rich together. My dad has become all too attached to his high-water Hobbit pants, hehe. The other two members of our group, an Aragorn with a boughten costume but a good Fellowship cloak, and an Arwen-in-a-prom-dress with yet another awesome cloak, were a lot of fun. The aforementioned friend Pat came in street clothes so we donated my old (first sewing project!) "Faire" shirt and a cloak for him to wear. Anyway, enough from me. I'll have pictures soon!

Crimson--You made that over the WEEKEND!? I'm well and truly impressed! It's gorgeous!

Sister Sola--you make an adorable Eowyn. Your costume is marvelous!

JainaMSolo--I can't see your pictures yet (bandwidth) but I'm sure they're great! I'll be sure to check back ASAP.

If I missed anyone, I'm sorry. I've had precious (precioussss!) little sleep in the past three days, appologies in advance.

I went to the movie premiere dresses as Gandalf The White together with Obi Anne and a few others from Fan Force Sweden, of which two hobbits wore fellowship cloak pins that I also had made.

    [image=http://www.bahnhof.se/~misagon/pics/dl_gandalf.jpg]
(Thanks to Jedi Lynx for the picture)

I stressed trying to complete all parts of this costume in time. I did not get much sleep the nights before the premiere day, and I spent most of Wednesday sleeping.
I made all the pieces, none was bought. The cloak pin is engraved aluminum. The cloak is fleece (offwhite wool was near-impossible to find), and embroidered with white yarn. I spent too many hours quilting the vest. After having seen another costumer's quilted vest on the web I thought "that might not have been too much work. If they can, then so can I". :)
The sleeves leave a lot to be desired. A wooden Glamdring (which I call "Ã…rsring", Swedish pun :) ) with leather scabbard were only half-finished and not worn. I did not have time to start on any undertunic or boots. I also sculpted a false nose, cheeks and lines under the eyes, but my experiments with foam latex failed miserably ... and I did not have time to wait for another set of prosthetics in slush latex to dry.
Oh, I made the staff from wood, sculpey and wood filler. It has a bright halogen lamp at the base of the "crown", powered by 4 AA batteries in the handle wrapped with white electrical tape. I have got progress pictures in my camera, that are yet to be developed.

Obi Anne: I did see several elves, male and female. One looked very much like Legolas to my eyes. Of the female costumes, I can't tell if any of them were movie-accurate or not. There were also several knights and many people in "ordinary" medieval clothing. And then we must not forget the kid who was dressed up as an ent!

So many wonderful costumes! Everyone looked fabuloso!
I applaud those of you who went through the whole day in costume -- I was wearing the comfiest sweats I own... I'm a wiggly movie watcher anyway, so a costume added to the mix would have been a nightmare for me. You ladies and gents are to be commended on your devotion!

I finished my wedding dress, just under the wire. I posted some pics here:
    http://yarwood.org/lotr/arwenwedding.html

I was out of town on the 16th, but I took the dress with me and we found a theater there with a midnight showing and went... I was the only one in costume unfortunately. But it was fun, and I'm pretty happy with my dress. :D

    Wow! I'm most impressed! :)

Jaina, the Hobbits are adorable and you look smashing in your chase dress, as usual!

Sola, your Eowyn looks spot on. Your overcoat looks so warm and cozy, and I love your bangs!

DarthLars, your Gandalf looks great! Awesome awesome job on the staff too.

kellilla, my goodness, your dress is beautiful. Wonderful job on all the details with your hair, tiara, and ears.

rvqavalon, congrats on getting to wear your dress to the premiere! It sounds like you had a fun time. :)

All your costumes are very amazing! :) I started to make Arwen's Blood Red dress before the movie came out in the Cinamas (Sorry if I spell that wrong) but then I found out that I wasn't going to it! :( So I stopped making it....

Darthlars I love your Gandalf costume! Beard and all :)

Kellilla, you're Arwen wedding gown is just beautiful.

Spacelady I hope you pick up your Blood Red dress making again. I decided not to wear a costume to Trilogy Tuesday either, but I'm still going to make my Mourning Gown. I think you can always find events or parties to wear a Lord of the Rings costume to :)

For those of you doing research on either the Mourning Gown or the Shieldmaiden gown, Maggie has posted a few of the photos I took at Neiman Marcus on her web site.

[link=http://www.padawansguide.com/shieldmaiden.shtml]Eowyn Shieldmaiden Photos from Neiman Marcus[/link]

I believe she left the photos at full resolution so people doing research can zoom in on the details :)

I'm a little bummed that I was the only person in costume at my theater (well, LoTR costume anyway), but I suppose it's alright. I mean, I still got to see the movie, right? ;)

Anyway, linkage. I got three shots off before the theater staff confiscated my camera. Only one of the pictures is any good too. So here it is. My Arwen Wedding/Coronation dress.

    Hi,
    Everyone's costumes are terrific!!!

I ended up wearing a [link=http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3ce20b3127cce8f90ed28ca250000000610]flower head wreath[/link] to the movie (day after the opening) with my girlfriends.

Episde III - I will definately fully garbed!

    ;)

I found my camera, so here is a picture of my slowly progressing [link=http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3cc00b3127cce842df5ccd2570000000610]shield maiden costume.[/link] It is still missing the trim around the bust, waist and shoulders.

And I have a few more photos [link=http://www.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=67b0de21b35fc42b4568]here[/link].

    :)

Leah your Coronation Gown turned out beautifully as did everyone else's costumes. I'm finally getting some real work done on my female Rohan rider costume (based on Eomer's beautiful armor) this weekend and may even have it finished one of these days. :p

I just wanted to say that everyone's costumes came out looking great!! I hope everyone had fun dressing up for the movie; I know I did. There were quite a few people in costume at the theater I went to so my friends and I weren't the only ones dressed up.
I only got one good picture of myself in my costume. I posted it [link=http://www.eastofthewoods.com/medievalcourt/costumes/arwenRotK.jpg]here[/link].

    Happy holidays everyone!!!

FenigDurak, your dress turned out beautiful. :) And you surely had enjoyed yourself that day.

I'd put the Ceremonial/Coronation/Wedding Dress on my To-Do List too, rite after the Blood Red one (this time, I'm doing it myself and will not face another case of fraud  ) and before the Requiem one (well, IF I still want to do it as the 3 uses the same basic pattern so make as well do all 3). Main reason? I want to dress up like my Barbie-Arwen Doll. :p The dress is beautiful anyway. ;)

Everyone LOTR Costumes also turned out great IMHO. A great job had been done there! :)

Will post lots of pictures of my friends and mine costumes and adventure last Dec 17th and 18th as soon as I gotten more. The ones in my collection are too little unfortunately. :_| Should had told the one holding my camera to shoot as she wish and finish up all 3 rolls of film (she only took 7 miserable photos on Dec 18th :_| ).

[link=http://www.geocities.com/sith_haldir/lineparty1.htm]Here's one[/link] during the Line Party for now. More than half the Ringwraiths are from my group, plus the Sauron, Arwen Requiem, Arwen Rose Dress, Elrond, Sam, Frodo, Faramir, Gollum, Legolas & Gandalf. I'm one of the ringwraiths at the back. Only wore my 85% completed (need to add the beadings on the collar trim and get a proper lady boots) Arwen Mourning Dress the next day during our LOTR Costume Parade.
