Well also having an 'ex-Jedi' running a store for the wealthiest slice of the elite on Coruscant itself and not expecting to get caught has to be one the silliest things I've ever heard and not the kind of thing Gilroy would put out.

 

Obi-Wan: Hides in the desert of Tatooine.

Yoda: Hides on the swamps of Dagobah.

Ahsoka: Hides on various backwater agri worlds.

Kanan: Part of a rebel cell that lives out of their starship.

Luthen: Hanging out right under thd Emperor's nose on Coruscant, running an antique shop visited by the wealthy and connected.

 

Luthen may well have a few lightsabers, considering their historical importance in the GFFA. Wouldn't mean he's a Jedi.

 

Genodical Serbian military leader Karadzic hid in plain sight in Belgrade (with a massive wizard beard), writing a regular newspaper column and appearing on a TV show in Serbia, and it took thirteen years to find him.

 

That'd be a more on-point example if he was caught hiding in like the lobby of the UN or something. Belgrade wasn't exactly unfriendly territory.

Like Luthen is in regular, extremely close proximity to spies who are tailing powerful Senators. 100% the Empire thinks they know who he is and have vetted him against major fugitives like Jedi.

 

An antique shop with a bunch of Jedi/Force stuff no less.

 

Consider what happens if Karn makes it to Ferrix, meets up with Dedra, with Luthen swooping in at the last minute to rescue Andor, and Karn can ID Luthen. If that happens, Axis is revealed not to be Kreegyr and the ISB will be hot on Luthen's trail in Season 2. Seems like an intense set up!

 

What some thought mught be lightsaber hilt is just a concealed knife.

Coruscant is an incredibly massive, densely-populated, complicated planet. And the Empire is likely arrogant enough to never consider that an arch enemy would hide himself right under their noses. There’s a vulnerability and a major risk involved, yes. But they’ve deemed it worth the risk to be at the center of galactic power and traffic. My feeling is that they know they will likely be found out eventually, and have a self-destruct plan for the shop. But they’re going to make as much an impact as possible on taking down the Empire. I love it. Perhaps my favorite spy thriller element in the show.

It’s a detail of no importance, I imagine.

I think Luthen owning lightsabers makes sense. They are part of history. I think most might not have they crystals though, but owning lightsaber doesn't make one jedi. I think Luthen being jedi would ruin his character for me. But him knowing or sympathizing jedi would make a lot of sense. He started to fight the Empire immediately when order 66 came about and they lost the Republic. So he knows what it means, sith and their empires are part of Star Wars history. "Oppression of the sith will never return", Luthen also knew about Rakatan Empire. Empires are his enemy, since he knows what they do. Him being jedi would make it about the Force again and that's story we have already seen so much.

 

Stellan Skarsgård bears enough resemblance to Max von Sydow that he played a young Father Maren in a prequel to The Exorcist.
Maybe Luthen survives the events of Andor, hides from the Empire under the identity of Lor San Tekka, perhaps turning to teachings of the Church of the Force to assuage his guilt for some of his more ruthless actions.

It's a stretch, but given the vague resemblance and the fondness for collecting rare antiquities...

 

I think it's best to keep them as separate characters still, however connection between them would be cool.

 

Makes as much sense as him being a Jedi
