We could always go back to talking about video games you've never played and debating how best to rule over the masses.

You could try asking questions about Tolkien.

This thread... its pure unadulterated interwebz... and yet it isn't on 4chan or reddit. I don't think my brain can withstand memes of this magnitude!

I think we'll remember this weekend as the one where Havac finally lost his mind.

One question I've always had was the presence of silk clothing among the hobbits. Where did the silk come from?

I'm sure there's a song about where the silk comes from.

Spidersilk. The stuff is absolutely everywhere in Mirkwood.

And I think Janson has the answer. Researching spidersilk, it can be used for clothing... except that spidersilk is too fine and requires a great deal of harvesting to produce even a vest of the clothing. But with the larger spiders, that wouldn't be an issue. Perhaps the woodsmen of Mirkwood are the ones responsible? Or possibly the elves (trading for wine, as we know that they import the stuff).

Next question: where did the remnant of the Dunedain live? While the Rangers had bases in the ruins of Fornost and Annuminas, as well as at Sarn Ford, Bree was said to be the only real habitation of humans with hundreds of miles of the Shire. So, where were Aragorn's people?

At this point I feel like I have to 'like' every Ackbar meme someone posts in here, or else I'll just feel like I'm being judgmental.

Border patrol? Wandering around the North Downs, watching the Shire, the borders of Angmar and the Ettenmoors, etc. I wouldn't call a ranger camp a "human habitation" in the same sense as Bree or the Shire, so wherever it is, if it's all Dunedain, I think it bypasses that constriction somewhat.

Children, old folk, cripples and non-combatant types. The people of the Rangers, not the Rangers themselves.

Not sure if there's any actual basis for this, but I always was under the impression that they were essentially nomadic.

Right, well... I dunno precisely where, but I'd have to guess most non-combat Dunedain wind up under about six feet of loose dirt.

Well, a day's ride east of Bree is the Forsaken Inn, so presumably there are settlements in other parts of Eriador that we just don't hear about.

Alternatively they're all rangers now and the situation with the northern DĂșnedain is really dire.
