I can't figure out how provide photographic evidence due to Photobucket having become the 10th circle of hell, but ACTUAL BIRTHDAY CARD I RECEIVED TODAY:

"Happy birthday to someone who's not like all the otters" (w/ picture of an otter wearing sunglasses)

 

Actual otters - totally fine.
Cartoon otters in sexual poses wearing underpants - disturbing, creepy, wrong, weird, absolutely not fine at all.

 

I don't think any of them are shown wearing underpants.

No, she's wearing a bikini. You can see the top behind the valentine heart and her arms.

 

It's still creepy. Sexualizing animals is creepy.

You do know this is in reference to an actual Star Wars character that looks like an otter right?

Okay, different topic: Scare karu

...what?

I distinctly remember a passage in a book -- I think it was a Star Wars book -- about scarecrows, only crows are too real so they had to invent karus as a replacement pest. The passage was lengthy and seemed pretty much besides the point of the story... and I can't for the life of me remember or find out where it was.

It's not on the Wook. Google is no help at all. I think the passage would have to be from a more recent book, but it doesn't pop up in any of the ebooks I own. I haven't been reading any SF/F except for Star Wars and The Expanse for the last year (that I can remember, anyway), so I don't see where else I could have got that from. I'm confused.

Any help? Anyone here remember anything about that?

 

Hmmm... it doesn't seem to exist on google, even other similar spellings. I don't remember it at all. Maybe it's a premonition of things to come? Like that's your special superpower -- the ability to envision random desultory long-winded descriptions of useless in-universe information in future scifi?

Riiight.. nice how it sort of glosses over the British colonisation of the country.. especially as it seems to coexist with the north where the lords of Ireland were pretty much based til the plantations..

That's all the more reason why America needs to clean itself up.

 

I'm about half way through with the Death Troopers audio book (the zombie stormtrooper book, it has nothing to do with the black armored troopers in Rouge One. Also sorry if this should have gone in a proper review thread, but I couldn't find one.) I've discovered that every time the chapter title is read aloud, it is then read aloud again in crazy screaming voice.

A lesson for any aspiring horror writers: Hearing a voice that sounds like Mr. Meeseeks yelling things like "Molecule!" "Life Day!" or "Bubble!" is hilarious, not terrifying.

 

I haven't heard the Death Troopers audioboo, but in the Maul: Lockdown audiobook (also written by Schreiber), after the chapter title is said, there's someone quietly yet dramatically whispering it in the background. Is that what you mean?

 

Sounds similar, but even though the volume can vary a bit I wouldn't call it "dramatically whispering", at a minimum I'd call it "whisper yelling from a voice that sounds like it's about to go lose it's mind".

 

Oh man, so I'm watching the cutscenes from X-wing Alliance, and it cuts to a shot of the Death Star II, and all I can think of is @Iron_lord.
