PT - No changes OT - No changes ST 1. Use George Lucas's story 2. Use George Lucas's story 3. Use George Lucas's story
I'd be fine if they didn't- but I can't think of a better use for the alleged Obi-Wan vs. Vader duel in the Kenobi series- of course, if they do indeed meet in 9 BBY, I am willing to approach it with an open mind. it could be written beautifully, we'll just have to see. I am suspicious of it though.
PT: - Make Anakin a bit older and give him a less whiny arc to become Vader - Bring the optic a little bit closer to the OT and ST - Maybe Yoda shouldn't have fought Darth Sidious in a lightsaber duel (still not sure) OT: - Remove the kiss between Luke and Leia! - Shorten the ROTJ arc with Jabba a little bit - Replace the Ewoks with some more "serious" and less "cuddletoy-ish" alien species ST: - Make TFA a little less nostaglic and give it some worldbuilding and/or politics - Replace the bounty arc and the casino arc in TLJ with something more respectable - Let the signal tower on Exegol have an energy shield so the "ground attack" is actually "needed" (as Finn says) ......AOTC, ROTJ & TLJ are quiet the movies I have the most issues with in each trilogy. But of course you can improve every movie technicalwise or storywise or designwise or however. I mean...I am pretty okay with the saga nowadays but sometimes I wish SW would be a little less "cringe" and more epic or at least natural/neutral.
TRILOGY ONE & TWO Much greater gender and color diversity, especially among major/speaking characters No objectification, sexual or otherwise, of characters No speciesism TRILOGY THREE Use George's story Use George's worldbuilding skills That's about it
PT - Introduce Anakin older, maybe mid to late teens Replace Qui Gon with Obi-Wan in TPM. Also make Obi-Wan older Have Anakin turn at the end of Episode 2, with Episode 3 being about the fallout, the end of the Clone Wars and Obi-Wan finally hunting Anakin down (he doesn't become Vader until end of Episode 3) OT - Take out the Jabba special edition scene from ANH Spend more time with Obi-Wan training Luke Show the Emperor dissolving the senate ST - Make Snoke Palpatine's original apprentice before Vader Keep Papatine pulling the strings, but introduce him in TLJ or even before, and give him a proper clone form and more of a presence, ala Dark Empire Have Finn lead a Stormtrooper revolt (cannot believe JJ didn't do this)
PT 1. Rewrite the opening crawl of TPM to create more excitement. (Don't make the very first crawl about taxes. It's the most iconic part of the saga.) 2. Have Obi-Wan join the others when they explore Mos Espa, OR swap his role on Tatooine with Qui-Gon's. (He needs to interact with Anakin far more.) 3. Make General Grievous more sinister, and less of a coward. (Use Tartakovsky's version from Clone Wars.) OT 1. Restore the Han / Greedo scene to its original version. (It was logically perfect.) 2. Replace 'Jedi Rocks' with the original 'Lapti Nek'. (Its tone matches the palace scenes far better.) 3. I have no problem with 'Victory Celebration', but bring back 'Yub Nub' in some form. (We all sing it in our heads anyway.) ST 1. Utilize Lucas' ideas / concepts. (I think this should have been the easiest call.) 2. Don't change the rules / laws of hyperspace travel, OR at least explain the modifications convincingly. (I'd be fine with a decent explanation.) 3. Scrap Snoke and make Palpatine's clones the main antagonists of the whole trilogy. (Use Dark Empire's concept of young Sheev clones.)
Nah.... remove both 'Lapti Nek' and 'Jedi Rocks' and replace it with some really good original instrumental (could have slight Arabian, African, East Asian or Indian influences/instruments - sitar or African-type of drums etc., with or without vocals - that would be cool and something new in SW), like they did with 'Cantina Band'. Songs don't really belong in SW, while they work fine in LOTR. A song is one of those things that dates a movie most. And on the whole, bring in more non-European/American musical influences, not on every single track but once in a while, especially when reflecting non-human cultures.... that would have been nice. Personally, I'd prefer more drums, such as in 'The Land of the Sand People' in ANH. 'Victory Celebration' is OK though, not a masterpiece but acceptable enough.
ST: 1. reinsert the podracer flags 2. Darth Talon as the main antagonist 3. ditch the whole Rebels vs. Empire 2.0 dynamic
PT: 1. Remove the virgin birth aspekt, Anakin is Beruh´s brother and a poor farmer trying to escape Tattoeen by podracing, also make him older 2. Have Dooku show up in 1 for the Council meeting and maybe a talk with Qui Gon 3. The Seps use clones as war slaves, the republic has a regular army OT: 1. Have there been an explicit timeskip of a few months or so while Luke trains on Dagobah and the Falcon travels to Bespin at sublight speed 2. Wookiees instead of Ewoks, Kashyyyk instead of Endor 3. No Anakin Force Ghost instead imply that Vader has to go to some sort of purgatory for a while as one good action doesn´t instantly make up for 20+ years of mass murder ST: (I would rather have it fully reworked but if 3 changes...) 1. Remove it from the main Saga, at least 1000 years after or before ANH, plus ditch the Episode 7-9 and just have it be a seperate trilogy 2. Kylo is the main villain, he just played weak and conflicted in the first 2 movies to manipulate Rey. No Palpatine 3. Fin and Poe get together and don´t get other LIs hastily introduced
Prequel Trilogy Improve the romance scenes. Not by changing the dialogue, but simply by reversing the placement of some of those scenes within Attack of the Clones. For example, I think that the scene of the kiss on Naboo should be put after the scene where the two of them roll in the grass and after the scene where Anakin levitates the pear. In the original version these two scenes were putted afte the kiss scene on the Naboo lake, but I think it would be better if they were putted before. This small change would help to improve the love story, without having to change any dialogue. When Anakin’s mother is killed, Anakin tells Palpatine what he did to the sand people. He doesn't tell Padmé, he tells Palpatine. When in Revenge of the Sith Yoda is meditating after Order 66 (before Bail Organa interrupts him to tell him that Obi-Wan has made contact), it would be nice to include the voice of Qui-Gon’s spirit saying something like "Now I'm part of the living Force, Yoda", to justify why Yoda tells Obi-Wan about Qui-Gon discovering the path to immortality. Original Trilogy For a better connection with the Prequels, "Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough" should be turn into "I wanted you to have this when you were old enough" through some sound editing process. I've always interpreted Obi-Wan’s words on Anakin’s lightsaber as a lie (after all, he told many lies to Luke). But perhaps it would be better if they were changed altogether. Remove the scene of the kiss between Luke and Leia, please! Completely change the design of the Ewooks by making them bigger, more intimidating and less comedic, to make it more realistic that they can defeat the Empire’s troops in the Battle of Endor. Sequel Trilogy Change the fact that this Trilogy exists. Change the fact that this Trilogy exists. Change the fact that this Trilogy exists.
Prequel Trilogy: Change Jar Jar to a less humorous companion in TPM and no slapstick Rework some of the dialogue in TPM and AOTC to feel "faster, more intense," or at least more casual in wording and delivery and less formal and precise No Dooku. Have Darth Maul be the main Sith apprentice thru the whole trilogy, until Anakin kills and replaces him in ROTS Original Trilogy: Lightsaber duels: Enhance the lightsaber effects across the trilogy to look and sound consistent with the rest of the saga and rework the ANH duel in terms of coreography and scale Add additional Rebel and Imperial forces to battles of Yavin and Hoth Change the Ewoks to some other, less cute and cuddly being-that would be more intimidating in a battle against imperial forces. Sequel Trilogy: Rey and Finn would develop a romance across the trilogy Darth Plagueis emerges on Exegol in TROS, instead of Palpatine Force ghosts would work together with Rey and Ben to defeat Plagueis and the Sith Eternal I actually kinda struggled to find things for the OT, so much of it has to do with special effects and less about story. For the PT and especially the ST, it was tough to limit it to three. But if just these things are done, it would improve my enjoyment of the films that much more.
Ooh, this seems fun! So I know the rule is just "three changes per trilogy" and nothing more specific than that, but I'll lean on the crutch of specifically making that one change per movie TPM: Have Dooku show up for at least a couple minutes of screen time as a somewhat disillusioned Council member. Maybe even have him be the one and only member to speak in favour of training Anakin. That'd be cool AOTC: I say this as someone who likes the Anakin/Padme romance - make Padme returning his feelings actually make sense lol. You can't just go from her being "I'm not into you that way" to "No, we shouldn't" (which at least Anakin respects afterwards), to "I'm suddenly in love with you. Nvm that thing yesterday about massacring women and children." ROTS: Include a ghost Qui-Gon/Yoda scene. I think that WAS the intent, but Liam Neeson was injured at the time, and/or busy filming something else? I keep forgetting ANH: I'm struggling to come up with anything that's not super minor like "update the effects more" or something. A lot of people suggest something like "Add in a quick Palpatine scene over hologram" or whatever, but I actually think the movie's fine with him just being mentioned as is. It's funny - despite having a good chunk of its exposition retconned or elaborated in a way that definitely wasn't the intent at the time, I still feel like the original stands as the most streamlined of the nine saga films TESB: I'd like to see Boba do a little more than just stand around menacingly. At least one little firefight to incapacitate the heroes on Cloud City or something ROTJ: For the love of all that is demonic, restore Jerjerrod's subplot, or at least its main beats. I don't think it'd interfere with the pacing that much. I love the scene of him trying to stop Vader from going to the throne room, and I think it adds a bit of humanity when he hesitates to turn the Death Star on Endor and helps him stand out from your typical heartless Imperial Officer - maybe that is the exact reason it was cut, but eh. Jerjerrod is underrated TFA: Give us a better idea of the exact scope/scale of what the FO's effect on the galaxy is. I think there's a deleted scene where one of the Resistance leaders asks the NR senate to do something shortly before SKB fires? Even restoring that would be nice TLJ: Gonna go similar here - I don't mind if it's "show, don't tell" or "just tell", but I'd like to get a bit of a better idea of what the FO's forces are doing across the galaxy outside of our main plot. Surely they're not ALL chasing the Resistance. Even a throwaway line or two about some successful occupation of a planet, or eliminating other Resistance cells elsewhere. Small details that offer big worldbuilding TROS: The opening crawl is a mess. I like the actual content of it. But the thing that irks me so much about it is there are like five or six ALL CAPS words/phrases. I might even make a thread specifically dedicated to this in the ST section, but that really bothers me lol That was fun!
PT - The invasion of Naboo is a battle we actually see. Amidla becomes Queen when her parents are killed in the attack. (This eliminates the silly idea of electing a child to run a planet. It also makes leadership a burden that Padme did not ask for, thus we feel more bad for her) - Amdiala abdicates the throne. She disbanded the monarchy to bring democracy to Naboo. The new Elected Queen appointed her as Senator. - Padme dies for an actual reason other than being sad/losing will. (I hate how she's a fighter the whole trilogy then suddenly gives up on her babies) - (bonus change: I wish the Jedi wore flight-suits when they were in their star-fighters) OT - Better duel in Episode 4 - Re-shoot Vader's unmasking scene with Hayden as Anakin. - Have Jar Jar be part of the Empire. Not in a major role, but he's there visible in a scene somewhere (not because he's evil, but because he's naive and still thinks of Palpatine as his friend) ST - I'd scrap them all together.
This is all hypothetical of course but here we go... PT -Completely scrap the concept of midichlorians. It is one of the gravest sins 'Star Wars' ever committed. Taking them away doesn't negatively impact the story or character development at all. -There needs to be a weightier backstory for Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. There's no reason Owen or Beru couldn't have been Anakin's sibling. -Padme has to die of something. Vader killing her in anger would have been perfect. OT -Completely despecialize everything. -Chewbacca gets a medal. -In ROTJ give Lando more interaction with the heroes before they separate for the finale. Han shouldn't be so quick to forgive him. ST -As much as I love Max von Sydow, Lor San Tekka should be someone we know and have met prior. He could have been Lando or Wedge Antilles. It would immediately increase the tension and mystery behind Kylo Ren. -There are a lot of problems with TLJ in my opinion but I won't harp on about them. I think you solve the issues with Luke by merely cutting the scene with Yoda's Ghost. Just see Luke go to the tree to burn it and cut it there. The implication would be that he came to the decision of helping Rey and the Resistance because he realized he was wrong and because he respected them. It solves those problems and it's more economical story telling. What you have there is goofy fan service and I'm sorry but Yoda can shoot lighting as a spirit? Why not send him into battle? -Do right by Finn. Don't spend TLJ erasing all character growth, don't have him constantly be in Rey's shadow and have no identity of his own.
OT Change the Music in ANH such that the themes that were developed in ESB are present (Imperial March, Leia’s theme, etc); Remove most of the Special Edition changes, especially the ones in ESB occurring during the escape from Cloud City, which slowed the action down terribly and were thoroughly pointless. And of course ‘Noooo………. NOOOOOOOOO’. No need for it; Yep, it has to be: improve that Obi Wan - Vader showdown. PT Rather than patronise the audience with a ‘comedy character’, actually write Jar Jar as a fully thought out character we actually care about; Excise the duff dialogue. None of the ‘it’s because I’m so in love with you’, ‘from my point of view the Jedi are evil!’, kiss becoming a scar, haunted by a kiss, SAND, thank you very much whilst you’re up. Why they had to saddle Anakin with so much poor dialogue is beyond me, Padme gets a fair share too because she’s often in conversation with Anakin, but Anakin shoulders the brunt. Did George forget the Carrie Fisher was a script polisher??; Practical Effects. The overuse of green screen was obvious then, and it will really age the PT in years to come. ST Sit down and think the story through from start to finish before beginning to film it, instead of having a variety of directors bring a mish-mash of ideas and the final product ending up like the result of a game of One Word Story; Build up an actual sense of peril for the climax. Kill some characters off, give them a heroic ending, give them an ending they didn’t deserve. Just something that would have given some emotional weight to the finale. Personally I’d probably have killed off Poe and BB-8 in a self sacrificial manoeuvre to bring down a dreadnought. Could then have seen a Flight Academy named after Poe being built as we see the galaxy rebuild itself in the end. Something like that. Give us a serious WAR! The ending we got didn’t feel like a war; That lightsaber battle between Luke and Kylo. None of it looked right. One second, Kylo’s lightsaber is an inch above Luke’s face, they separate, then they’re suddenly 30 yards apart. This isn’t my only Luke quibble of course; Build up to the presence of Palpatine from the outset, not necessarily by an instant reveal, but certainly by a trail of clues. Damn. That was 4. Someone must have given me the 10% extra free turn.
