Braves fans I'm sure would cringe at the thought. But as the article suggests, things turned out fine for both teams in the end. I always remember a bit in my '96 WS Championship video where some idiot in the YS crowd is shown saying, "so he won 4 Cy Youngs, he's not that good" while Maddux was getting ready to shut the Yankees down in Game 2.

But a month later, the losers on the field and in the owners boxes nearly killed the game.

 

This seems like generally positive news, at least compared to everything else since the lockout started.

Oh good...they still make faces and kick each other under the table...but at least they are in the same room.

 

I feel like we were in the same position two years ago and that led to a harshly delayed season. I love baseball, but I'm not sure its popularity can survive if an agreement is not reached before April after that happened so soon ago.

 

Difference is that two years ago, that was due to COVID, not labor issues.

 

I'd be completely satisfied if Bonds, Clemens, Ortiz, and Arod never got into the HOF. But I stress that includes ALL of them; not just the ones that "didn't actually get punished by MLB". The notion of Bonds getting into the HOF is the equivalent of a young teenage punk telling you, "well it's only stealing if you get caught". Yes, Bonds was a formidable player before any hint of PEDs in his system; but that went out the door when he decided to jump on the bandwagon with McGwire and Sosa in the late 90s and early 2000s.

In my book, Hank Aaron is still the all-time home run king, and Roger Maris has legitimate record for most home runs in a season.

 

So you're suggesting everyone will get in? If that's the case, fine.

 

Fine and you can say that only time will tell who (if anyone) among the balance of the accused steroid users gets in.

Meanwhile I can still continue to mope about Don Mattingly getting snubbed.

 

Those weren't mutually exclusive. The virus was the looming factor, but in the end it will be remembered in history as another spat between ownership and the players' association.

 

Baby steps, but still seems like progress. Getting on the same page and then just haggling about the final numbers. Would have thought the players would have aimed even higher on a new minimum salary.

Yeah, that's not haggling necessarily though, especially with MLB withdrawing whatever arbitration thing they had out there...

That may be an unbridgable divide, especially on that first one...

 

Well the haggling comes now that both sides are basically on the same page on some of these issues.

The arbitration thing was a replacement of the current system with a formula based approach, I think just for third year players. The players were absolutely opposed to this, not wanting to give up arbitration. So in the last two days, each side has given up on trying to change one of the other sides non-negotiables.

Ortiz in; everyone else out. At least that racist bigots fat turd sandwich better know has Curt Schilling didn't make it. And yes I know there are other turds in now but doesn't mean you give Curt a pass for being a POS. Everyone else btw I was indifferent on, just didn't want to see he get in.

 

The difference between irrelevance and relevance. Yeah, I'm not happy Ortiz alone got in.

 

Still glad Schilling didn't, though.
