The more Shelly read the wider her eyes grew. So she was gratified when she finally decided to try out her powers, that her memory seemed to become much clearer, and that her powers seemed to work. And that, she was very happy. For it seemed to clear her mind and made her studying much easier. The stuff on Doom sounded a little too convenient for her. Like he planned the entire thing. The virus. The Cure. So...were the Sentinals, the huge robot things she had met before? Shelly frowned, shaking her head. She moved on to practicing her abilities.

Using her phone as a recording device, Shelly would find that she would have to will herself unseen while in the shadows, only then and only then would her phone not record here presence. Also, when she melded into the shadows, lit places would feel like they were separated by a barrier to her, a sort of wall. Again, she would need to will herself to emerge back into the lit areas. Moreover, while in the shadows, Shelly would also find herself able to traverse spaces and objects which were also in shadow. Hmmm. More practice for that. She also made sure to delete all recordings each time. Again, she was going to make sure she left no evidence behind. The strange part of feeling a wall made her wonder if it was perhaps some kind of time dilation thing? Probably too much Dr. Who.

But there was something Shelly felt, she had never noticed before. Shelly noticed that the deeper she moved into the shadows, the greater the distance she’d travel, but not only that- she could also sense something watching from the depths. That was creepy. Who, or what could be watching? Andy why? As long it had nothing to do with those curses Senetinals, and it didn't interfere, she was happy.

Shelly now wondered if her ability to go into the shadows to clear her mind, might help Tony as well? She would ask him if he was interested in trying it possibly when next they met.

After all of her research, Shelly collapsed on her bed, after clearing her histories and closing down the vpn she set up to keep her searches safe. She closed her eyes, they hurt after so much reading she had done. What to do now? Shelly rubbed her fingers across the 'collar' Tony had given her. Nope, she definitely did not want to stay in this reality. She wanted to go home! She wondered about the other guy, Colin. She knew nothing about him, except he seemed to be in the same shape as she was. She would have to guess that would be enough for now.

With nothing really to do at the moment, Shelly would lay down for a while, and then move to the kitchen to make something to snack on.

    Maybe a little tv?

Blue led the team keeping his head down, looking up every now and again. He was ever vigilant, keeping his eyes out for any trouble. It seemed it followed them these days. While on the outside he seemed calm if a little annoyed, inside he was uneasy. He'd never subscribed to working for someone else, of following orders handed down to him. Being a hero wasn't about that. It was about going out, walking a beat, protecting those that needed protection. Not this skulking around, picking up packages, and escorting them to another part of the city. And after the run in with Hammer goons, Blue knew this city needed heroes, needed people like him. What was he doing to fix this, holding a kid's hand as they walked him a few blocks.

It bothered him, it wasn't what he'd wanted to do, wasn't what he saw as 'being a hero'. As he scanned the area, looking for situations to intervene in. Though as he did he kept noting movement at the edge of his vision. Black birds of some kind, every time he tried to focus in on it, they would nearly fade away, or move back into his blindspot. It was worrying but he put that away.

As he heard Adam and Psion talking, hearing his name Blue game a nod before turning back to watching their front.

Aegis looked to Adam smiling under her bandanna trying to be friendly with their charge.

"Yeah, sky is nice and clear." Casey looked up half looking for signs of Sentinels. "Wish I could see some stars." She said trying to be friendly. "I miss the stars sometimes." It was a bit nostalgic for her home, far enough from the lights of the city that she could see some of the closer, brighter stars. "And you can get away with wearing hoodies without broiling." She kept up her friendly air trying to keep herself and Adam calm.

The Two Ravens cawed unintelligibly from a distance.

Hugin: < Aesir blood flows through his liver.>

Munin: < Lo! This gift we must deliver.>

Hugin: <Trouble, trouble soon will come!>

Munin: < Then we’ll see if he becomes!>

    *****

No one paid attention to the cawing birds, who flew along the clear sky.

For now they remained at the edge of Blue’s peripheral vision, causing little to no concern.

“Were you at the shop all the time or did you somehow appear out of thin air? I didn’t notice any Stark or Richards technology inside? was that all you?”

Psion. Good name.” Adam replied with a nod and a smile, as he took in what was being spoken. He had no idea what these metas could do ( he simply assumed the three were metas), but Psion’s question at the end in a way confirmed that, since he’d been out of sight.

“Yeah, that was all me.” He confirmed with no small amount of modesty.

“Hehehe, sorry for the barrage of questions.” Psion added after a beat. “It was quite a surprise, and a really neat feat for sure.”

“No worries, I don’t mind questions. And yeah, it does come in handy.”

The girl interjected then, also making pleasant conversation.

"Wish I could see some stars. I miss the stars sometimes."

“You could borrow my telescope.” Adam put in casually, though he was quite serious about the offer.

"And you can get away with wearing hoodies without broiling."

Adam chuckled, but not getting her entire meaning.

    “Where is this again?”

The group was completely alert and keeping good pace. Though certain sights and sounds had become part of the background by now, all of them would notice the beam of light that shot to the sky somewhere from the south, in the direction of Triskelion, and the flares that lit that area. The Sentinel that flew over earlier had gone in that direction.

Indeed, such sights were now too common. Few heads turned as a result for more than five seconds before going back to business.

    ************

Not too far away, Agent Cross signaled for Zara to ride a few spaces behind him. [“Just follow my lead.”] He instructed.

Compensating for some lost distance, Agent Cross rode up to the cross-walk as the light turned red, leaving him no more than fifteen feet from the group as Team Psion and the ‘package’ crossed the street.

Zara would stop at the red light as well. However, she would be the first to notice a dark haired man in a brown leather jacket walking quite briskly and purposefully towards her bike riding partner. The man’s face bore a scowl and a fierce determination.

“Hey! Officer Cross! It’s Mallen. Remember me?”

The man yelled in a belligerent tone, his words sounding like a dare.

Zara dutifully followed Agent Cross to the lights, stopping a meter or so behind him. The bike’s engine thrummed beneath her. The other team were crossing the street right in front of them.

So far, things seemed to be going well. She had expected… Well, she had not known what to expect, but it was not a simple drive through Manhattan. Would they stop for coffee? She had brought her normal civilian clothes to White Star in a handbag, and now regretted not changing.

However, Cross’ full military uniform had attracted the attention of someone. Her partner had not yet seen the stranger from his position ahead of her, but the man was marching straight for him, and he did not look happy.

She could try and intercept. She heard him say his name as he neared.

[Agent Cross, we got trouble. Someone is coming right up on you, 5 o’clock. Who's Mallen?]

It was still bothering Blue, birds just out of sight but he pressed on anyway. They had a mission and for now the birds didn't seem to be bothering them. As he saw in the distance a beam of light shoot up and flares go off he questioned if he should even be here, when it was clear someone needed help over there. He put his head down and kept moving gritting his teeth just a little.

"Oh, um I was just commenting on the weather." Casey said feeling very, very awkward not realizing what she was talking about. It had been so long since she really talked to anyone that wasn't the monosyllabic Blue, or the exuberant Zephyr. She left off telling their charge where she came from. Blue would likely find it unbecoming of a hero to give away personal details. She did give a look to Zephyr as he was talking about the man just appearing. She hadn't noticed that but then again she didn't have Psion's Sixth Sense, his Psion Sense if you will. "Oh so you've got powers too?" She whispered not wanting to be over heard but also wanting to confirm who they were escorting.

In the distance Blue heard a voice, a loud raised one, not too uncommon in a big city but it still turned his head. Looking over he saw the posture of a man marching towards two people on motorcycles. He couldn't make out much other than something was about to kick off.

Seeing this Casey wrapped her hand around his wrist.

"No Blue, we've got a mission to complete...please for once in your life...walk away. We have bigger things."

Blue just looked at her with a harsh glare.

"You know I can't." Clearing the crosswalk he posted himself on the corner of a building watching the scene. "Go on ahead, I'll catch up. I need to make sure this all plays out peacefully."

"Blue we do not have time for your heroics."

"It won't take long, keep moving I'll catch up."

    "Blue…"

"Aegis Psion, keep moving, I have a map, and I know how to move in the city. I will be fine."

    "Blue…"

    "Go."

"Why are you so stubborn all of a sudden. Think about the greater good."

"What good would I be if I coldly walk away from someone in trouble. You know that I can't do that." He held up the rusted handcuffs on his wrist, the memory of his friend that taught him everything about being a hero. "I made a promise to a friend. I can't turn a blind eye to someone in danger. Now go, I'll catch up."

Once again Casey was caught in the middle and unable to reach Blue, she looked to Zephyr. Hoping he could talk sense into their friend.

OOC: Fun with our GM in a combo

    IC Daken and Bounty Hunters
    Fun, fun, fun

“Step out of the vehicle and hold your hands up so we can see them.” The voice commanded, this from the vehicle directly in front of him.

Daken grinned, a predatory smile, at the command. He’d prepared while he waited for these idiots. He’d familiarized himself some with the systems of the vehicle, and the lights didn’t bother him, other than seeming almost daylight. The cabin of the vehicle was supersaturated with his pheromones and he had prepped a few systems. When the command rang out, he set off the systems he had prepped.

A couple earplugs went in his ears as a subsonic tone blasted out from the speakers of the vehicle, shattering the headlights that had been aimed in his direction. At the same time both visual and heat flares shot up into the air, throwing dancing shadows and voids of light around the entire area as well as rendering any systems designed to trace body heat moot. The doors popped open; at the same instant a hatch in the floorboard hit the ground. He slithered out, in the now darkness beneath the vehicle as his pheromones filled the entire area, rolling in clouds over the men and their vehicles, entering any that the troops had been foolish enough to leave open.

He scanned the surroundings and zigzagged across the open area, through the shadows cast by the flares, slipping between two of them at about his 4 and 5 o’clock. The men there saw him pass but only a blur of shadow against the other shadows that leapt in the clear area. He heard yells go up as he passed the H.A.M.M.E.R. vehicle and the Bounty Hunter one. His claws ‘snicked’ out and even the reinforced sidewalls of the closest rear tires collapsed under the slashes of them as he whipped by.

Stepping quietly into the nearest treeline he began to circle the formation. Touching a throat mike he’d found in the vehicle, he almost silently spoke and his voice now came from the speakers that had destroyed his would be captors headlights, ”Boyos, you found me in a generally forgiving mood, given the way this world seems to be now, but if you do not get Moonstone on the horn toot sweet, you’ll wish the Malformed had found you first.”

He shook his head again, the troops they’d sent hadn’t even bothered to check their sixes, or leave guards facing outward, at least not yet. Their lack of foresight meant he got to have some fun. He slashed valve stems on every tire he passed, slipping out of the shadows of the undergrowth to do so before silently fading away again. He leaned against the base of a tree, watching the chaos ”You elephants in the brush better call her before you're so overcome with lust you forget anything but the idea of pleasure, which given the male/female ratio will be bad for the more feminine of you. Chop chop, hop like a bunny and do it.”

The few that understood Daken already knew of his ingenious resourcefulness, his ability to turn the tables on almost any given situation. Those who knew him and understood him did not require proof. Only those who didn’t sought some kind of confirmation.

Indeed, mayhem ensued after Daken re-purposed the encounter theatre to suit his ends. The bursting headlights, the flares, the slashed tires, the pheromone laced air, all of it contributed to chaotic reactions.

Both angry and panicked shouts were accompanied by rat-tat-tat of weapons fire and the BANG of more than one side arm. Who was shooting what or where or why didn’t seem too much as a concern as Daken witnessed the result of his handy work.

However, in that moment, Daken would sense a change in the air pressure as well as in his ears.

Everything suddenly stopped moving. Everything and everyone except for him.

“I guess you were right after all Force Commander.”

“I won’t say that I told you so, Lord Stryfe.”

Daken would hear two voices coming from directly above him, as two beings hovered. At least one would be very familiar to him.

    Moonstone

    The other, not so much.

    Lord Stryfe

“Hello, Daken.” the blonde breathed out in welcome as she descended to the ground, then came to stand next to him.

No thing and no one else moved. The man in the silver armor and the red cape simply gazed down.

“Meet Lord Stryfe. He was wondering if it was really you. I tried my best to convince him of that fact, but it seems you did a better job than I ever could.” At that last part, she gave him a knowing smile.

Daken yawned to equalize the pressure, popping the earplugs out in the process. He noticed the unnatural quiet immediately, which resolved into a voice he’d recognize anywhere. Pulling the sunglasses down to the bridge of his nose a sardonic smile crossed his face as Moonstone descended. ”Hiya, lovely, beautiful as ever”

He looked up, seeing Stryfe. ’No Capes!’ ran through his mind. Glancing around the open area he grinned again, seeing all the troops frozen in place. He turned back to Moonstone, ”You, of course, knew they weren’t prepared for what you were sure they faced. Nice little workout though. It was such fun, but you stopped them before the good part. Next time bring popcorn.”

He was not sure, yet, if they had seen him hide the pair of teens, or why they had been about to be taken by a Bounty Hunter before he, somehow, found the man on the end of his claws. This place, this current world was off, he just knew it and until he began to understand it well he was loathe to fully trust any side, even that of hers and the Taskmaster. Not to mention what he remem… He shook his head as that thought trailed off into fuzziness and he looked up again at Stryfe.

He cocked his head to the side, half hoping, again, that he had a half chewed cigar, like his father favored, to stick in his mouth. ”Got any beers in that cheese grater, seeing as I’m guessing I passed your test, Shredder?”

“You mean freezing them?” Moonstone quipped as she took a quick glance around. “Not my doing.” She shrugged then pointed up to the still hovering Stryfe. “He’s into flexing.” she whispered and kept her expression impossibly casual. “I was hoping to see you sweat. Just a little.” At that, she offered a playful smile.

As for ‘Lord Stryfe’ he simply looked down at Daken with a critically judgmental gaze.

The armored man gestured absently and the men simply began to pack-up their things in eerie silence. Far in the distance, the sound and lights from a HAMMER hovercraft would be perceived by Daken, a craft that was already en-route to pick-up the men he nearly massacred.

“Get cleaned up and return to Head Quarters. We have much to discuss.” Was all Stryfe had to say.

The hovering man turned and was about to leave, then stopped.

    “Force Commander….”

Moonstone shrugged at Daken, then blew him a kiss.

“Don’t keep me waiting.” She cooed at him, before gracefully levitating and joining Stryfe in flight.

Around Daken, both the HAMMER soldiers and Bounty Hunters continued to gather their things, as if strongly compelled to do so. No one seemed to pay attention to Daken as they waited for the HoverCraft to airlift them. Indeed, it was a strange world he now found himself in.

Pushing the sunglasses back up on his face, Daken grinned outrageously, ‘plucking’ the kiss from the air and watched Moonstone fly off. Turning his attention back to the HAMMER soldiers and Bounty Hunters, from the way they were acting Stryfe had affected their minds to make sure he was left alone. ”Darn more playmates turned into zombies, ah well, there’s always next time.” he muttered then moved back to the vehicle he’d arrived in. Stripping it of some usable gear including a pair of handguns, ammunition, and as many of the food rations as he could find, he disappeared into the woods as the sounds of the hovercraft grew louder.

Depositing the stash at the tree the teens slept in, he carved a small note in the tree, telling them he’d had to leave, to draw away pursuit, that the gear was for them, to survive or he’d come back and kick both their butts. That done he slipped back into the clearing, none of the troops the wiser that he’d been gone.

The hovercraft finally arrived and as the troops loaded up he strolled up the ramp, finding an empty seat. He could see some glances, as though the various troops wanted to ask questions but it did seem the compulsion Stryfe had put on them was holding firmly. Standing for a moment he slipped through the throng, and up to the flying bridge.

Opening the hatch, ”I’ll get back to my seat in a moment but it does seem Lord Stryfe and Force Commander Moonstone want me back at base ASAP, and while I don’t know him that well I doubt it would end well if you’re slow. And I’m going to be disappointed if you disappoint that pretty little thing. I get disappointed and people turn into sushi.” A slow metallic sound rang out as his claws slowly extended before the pilot’s faces.

As he hopped back down, claws retracting, and returned to the cargo area he could hear the engines revving up to speed very quickly. He chuckled, ”Works every time, threaten to shish kabab someone and they find gears they never knew existed.”

    Escort Mission, in progress

As much as trouble is expected, it is never welcomed.

The escort mission was going pretty smoothly; through his ability Psion could ‘feel’ that Blue was on high alert, the bandana hero kept looking up at the sky, probably checking for stealth drones. It was also nice to hear Aegis interacting with another soul outside of Blue and himself, ’normal’ conversation had almost disappeared from the menu.

The quiet stroll was first interrupted by a bright flash from a powerful light beam that cleaved the sky accompanied by flares that lit the area.

It was safe to guess that this was taking place somewhere by the Triskelion area, which was probably the destination of the Sentinel they had seen earlier.

Psion felt a measure of unease begin to well in him, ‘Wasn’t that the area that Blue wanted to check out earlier…’ he mused with some misgiving.

‘What if more Sentinels are dispatched as a result of whatever was happening out there?’

Engaging his wrist-comp, Psion had Doc patch in any ‘verifiable’ alert of Sentinel activity in the Triskelion area and the island of Manhattan. He also had Doc map out possible shortcuts to their current destination, even routes where his particular abilities may be needed to facilitate passage.

Psion felt a bit more reassured as he received the information he requested. This was one of those times when he was really glad to have the upgraded Doc as ‘tactical’ advisor, something that had been a faraway dream ages ago…or so it seemed.

Then Blue, had to be Blue, of course.

Psion listened as Aegis tried to talk sense to Blue, the team had already committed to the escort mission and their efforts should be prioritized with the mission. But Blue’s self-sacrificing altruism sometimes blinded him to certain details of working as a team, the ‘greater picture’ that he carried in his heart superseded everything else.

But lately, it did seem that the ‘Fearless Leader’ was a bit more ‘driven’ than usual and more prone to going solo; Psion wasn’t sure if this was something they needed to ‘talk’ about as a group.

There was nothing to add to what Aegis had said and he nodded to her in agreement.

With a hand gesture Psion indicated that Adam take a position behind him, both to obscure the charge from view and to serve as a physical shield. There was ‘nothing’ unusual about a boisterous man in NYC, but in this era of Doom, every situation was unpredictable, so out of an overabundance of caution he also extended the range of his ’sense’ ability.

“Blue, we’ll take cover by those building across the way and hold position for about a minute…” even if Blue disapproved, leaving him behind alone was not an option Psion was ready to take and he figured that Aegis felt the same way.

“ I’m plotting shortcuts to maintain our ETA.” He informed matter of factly as he motioned for the other two to follow, “Switching to coms.”

Reaching the designated spot Psion took a cursory look at the trio that had attracted Blue’s attention, weapons and chemicals and suspicious electronics were always a good indicator of possible threats.

He also made sure to that they were positioned away from cameras, the building’s columns and advertisement signs always offered good cover.

“Let’s wait here for a moment.” he said before starting his countdown.

    Gemini & Quake
    Ferry Safe House

The coordinates given to Gemini had been probably closer than he would have guessed. The Ferry Station on the Manhattan side, at least a secret part of it, was being used as a temporary Safe House of operation for downtown ops. Now, with the amount of activity in the area, it was very likely they would have to move, but for the moment, they could provide assistance to the former deputy director.

At the given location, rooftop bay doors opened to admit the stealthed armored figure, which was tracked through linked technology. Gemini descended into a repurposed four story warehouse.

[Re-engaging active camouflage] a console announced somewhere as Gemini’s armored figure touched down. There was a round of applause from many of the operatives gathered, before they dutifully returned to their posts.

Daisy let go and sighed happily now that her feet were back on solid ground. Still, their situation remained as unfamiliar to her now as it had been when she ‘woke up’ this morning…or was that when she 'got to work'...it was all still very fuzzy -and fading besides.

A man in a White Star uniform stepped-up to the pair and gave them a crisp salute.

“Welcome Chief Johnson, Deputy Chief Giles. I’m Captain Haze, head admin here at Point Nam. Congratulations on your retrieval op. You had us all worried for a moment.”

“All in a days work, Captain.” Daisy found herself replying with typical confidence as she looked all about, immediately gauging and committing what she saw to memory. She still stood close to Gemini, though she gave the appearance that she was ‘relaxed’.

It made sense that the Triskelion Ferry would be closed. Point Nam. That was a clear reference to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial which was not too far away. She and Cameron were familiar with the memorial’s location and would find that to be at least ‘consistent’ information with what they already knew and remembered.

“So, what did we miss?” Daisy inquired with a practiced smile. It was time to get some intel on their situation. As someone who was still recognized as a leader, she was sure Cameron would do some digging of his own.

A combo post with the Grey One!

    The Ouro

    Upper West Side, NYC

The beleaguered Sentinel’s counter-attack on The Ouro, exploited a window of opportunity in the would-be heroe’s ‘defense’ with a powerful wide angle beam from its chest, fully catching its target by surprise. The sheer force of it slammed into Monin with the power of a freight train and the brilliance of the sun.

    "MY EYES!!"

Ouro held his face the entire way down as he plummeted, yet again, towards the ground. Focus... Don't crash in the ground. Float. FLY. He stopped his descent above a busy street below. Looking back up at the sentinel, the robot gave him an idea, but one that he could not follow through with here, with so many people around. Time for evasive maneuvers, he thought as he soared back into the air, firing more beams at the sentinel, but this time going away from the robot, towards the river.

"I'm totally about to shoot him with a chest beam of my own." He kept his eyes on the sentinel, increasing the strength of each blast again until he was over the river, where he stopped and began to summon his energy for a big bang this time.

[Defensive shield efficiency holding at 60%, rerouting auxiliary power. Reconfiguring parameters.]

The Sentinel hovered for a moment, as it readjusted itself. Several of its battle damaged outer plates seemed to become reinforced and the shield it had been emanating also changed. The glow in its eyes changed from yellow to red.

    [Re-engaging target]

The Sentinel followed Monin towards the river, but tis time it moved with greater agility as it utilized evasive maneuvers of its own to avoid more than half of the Ouros shots. The beams that did find their mark did not slow it down, but affected it on the level of his earlier attacks. The giant robot was adjusting to his increased power.

But how much could it adjust?

[Unidentified metahuman energy level increase: exponential. Capture no longer possible. Activating metahuman termination sequence.]

The Ouro succeeded in moving their clash from the city proper and unto the river, away from any potential by standers. Now he and the Sentinel faced each other. Monin was summoning energy and the Sentinel was likewise priming himself for a final attack as energy tendril began to funnel into its chest plate.

    {{“Be careful. If you flare too brightly, you risk getting ‘His’ attention. If that happens now, we won’t be able to help you.”}}
The woman’s voice was inside Monin’s mind, clear and calm as spring morning. She did not sound like the triplets. Still, he would feel the gravity of caution she was trying to convey, and of whom she spoke.

    Doom.
Ahead of him, the Sentinel continued to coruscate with energy as it brought both its arms and chest into alignment. The fact that he was surviving against a Sentinel on his own was simply unheard of.

Ouro shuddered from the invasion into his mind, but remembered to keep his eyes on his opponent. The energy he was summoning to his chest was beginning to be hard to contain. The point of no return was about 3 seconds ago and his inexperience had caused him to miss it.

“Crap... at least I was right to move away from the city...it’ll be harder for iPhones to capture my killing myself to post on Twitter.”

Humor. But his chest began to burn and he was starting to get nauseated. “Focus... this thing thinks I can only shoot one beam at a time... crap, maybe I can only shoot one at a time.”

His chest ballooned and he exerted all of his control on scattering the beam, but still aiming them all at the sentinel. Like a shotgun... but for superhuman energy beams.

    “WU...TANG....BOOWWWWWW!!”

Both Ouro and the Sentinel fired almost simultaneously. The mutant hunting robot released three highly focused beams that disturbed the waters bellow its position, their combined brilliance making it impossible to look at it directly. Monin did not posses the experience or computational ability to manage that level of finesse, but the one thing he did have was power.

Monin's scattered beams clashed against his opponents triple threat, immediately competing and vying for superiority and dominance. An enormous globe of energy grew from the titanic contest. It swelled in size, brilliance and magnitude, until it ultimately exploded in a dazzling display of light and thunderous sound that would certainly echo through the city.

Bits and parts of the Sentinel would splash into the water many miles from that location, other parts would be found on building rooftops somewhere closer to the harbor.

    But what of Monin Bellascort?

    ----

    Face down. In the Hudson.

Ouro rolled over and floated on his back, gazing into the sky as he tried to collect his thoughts.

His right hand rose to his view and he clinched it. He was still in his costume. His body was like he had been hit by an atom bomb and his energy level was depleting fast. Man...he just had an aerial battle in the skies of New York City against a giant robot. What. A. Rush. But he was forgetting something.

"I got to get back to the city and not looking like this." His costume faded away and he began the 5 minute swim to the nearest pier.

    Gemini IC:
~Ferry Safe House, New York City~

When he received the coordinates, Gemini was as surprised as one would have guessed. The Ferry Station? Manhattan side too. That wasn’t far, not far at all. An interesting tidbit whose implications he’d have to consider a later time.

As they neared, he saw the roof doors open and he swooped in quietly and swiftly, coming to as smooth a landing as possible; his invisibility abruptly dropping after the shadow of the roof doors crossed over him while still in mid-air at that moment. He took in everything soundlessly, noting the warehouse setup that White Star had clearly repurposed for their needs.

    Their needs.

It was really going to take some time for the whole idea of being a part of that organization now to sink in. What the hell happened to SHIELD? When? How? What was even going on in general anymore?

Too many questions. Way too many.

The applause was also very unexpected. It was nice to have recognition and a good proverbial pat-on-the-back, but this was just too wild. Switching into some professional mode though, he held out a free hand in a ‘thank you’ type gesture, his helm retreating to reveal his face now. He had the distinct impression they already knew who he was.

Daisy certainly seemed happy as she hopped off of him and took in the whole predicament herself. He knew she was having the same issues mentally as he was. But, like himself, she knew how to play a role until things were more cemented.

Captain Haze approached and saluted. Nice, curt, and cleanly done. That said a few things about the man as it was.

“Welcome Chief Johnson, Deputy Chief Giles. I’m Captain Haze, head admin here at Point Nam. Congratulations on your retrieval op. You had us all worried for a moment.”

So. They were still top dogs? Despite suddenly being in White Star? …It both felt natural, as in ‘of course I am.’ Something tugged at him to simply accept him, but yet there remained most of him going: ‘No, no, no. What is this?’

“All in a days work, Captain.”

Thank you, Daisy, he remarked in his head.

    “So, what did we miss?”

Indeed. That was exactly where his mind went as well, so he decided to expand on that more. But. First things first.

“I have someone in need of medical attention, food, rest, and some calming down here. She has use of Pym particles as well, so I need someone capable of handling that, please.”

Cameron hated to just hand ‘Mini-Miss’ off, but it was clearly time to play Mr. Professional. After assessing their overall situation, he’d swing back to her personally. Poor girl deserved it.

“Don’t worry, you’re in good hands now,” he whispered to her before overseeing that hand off. He eyed the agent taking her in very carefully, scrutinizing silently and committing to memory so if he needed to track someone down regarding her, he knew whom.

Once that was completed, he folded his arms and looked at another person not talking with Daisy. “I need a separate sit-rep as well, in both electronic and paper form if possible. What’s going on everywhere? Especially here in the city?”

He needed to know the global situation…the extreme oddities and how rapidly they appeared demanded a complete global assessment. Cameron had been doing this for too long and was too well trained and conditioned not to see that. But he needed really close examination of New York as well in particular.

Why? Simple. Can’t affect the whole neighborhood till you knew, in as much detail as possible, what was happening in your own backyard after all.

What information they were about to be bombarded with however…

Cameron J. Giles couldn’t even begin to imagine.

Tenzin simply stared for a moment that seemed to stretch for twice the time it really took for it to happen. SGC fidgeted with unfamiliar hands and found himself twirling a strand of hair by the side of his face and down to the end of it.

SGC’s was surprised at Larry’s image as it was not a far cry from his original form, but at least his wings would not be an issue. Then again that likely was better than his own blunder.

“Time is of the essence, I’m afraid.” came the monks reply to SGC’s question regarding a do-over. Nodding his head he let go of the strand of hair as he focused on listening despite the very real illusions effects.

“Just remember that your illusions work on minds, not machines. Otherwise you should have no issues with your fact finding.”

Tenzin walked up to both his pupil and his guest and nodded in satisfaction. Even their voices sounded different, as they should.

“Remember, you have an hour. Go, mingle, see what you can find out. Are there any questions before you go?”

"No Master, no questions. It shall be interesting to try and garner information quickly this way." he simply stated with a raised eyebrow as he looked down. Interesting indeed.

Mallen. How could he ever forget that name. Cross had been in law enforcement for less than a year when he encountered the domestic terrorist. Mallen and his terrorist cronies threatened to kill and blow up a local shopping center that had been bought by foreign interests. They were willing to sacrifice innocent locals to make their ‘point’. Cross was in the special Police Taskforce assigned to neutralize the threat.

The op could have been cleaner. There were too many variables at play, too many hostages, but Cross managed to identify the ring leader, Mallen, and take him down. He took several bullets for his trouble and still managed to pummel the man into unconsciousness. He was much luckier than the innocents that had died in the rescue attempt, or the officers who perished or were permanently wounded during the clash.

He was still in the hospital when a S.H.I.E.L.D agent came to recruit him. She was the one who informed him that Mallen would get the death penalty.

So, how was he alive? Wasn’t that how it all happened?

    ****

Everything was happening in a blink of an eye.

The unbidden memories, his reflexive reaction. He didn’t even have time to acknowledge Agent Zara Chang. Agent Nolan Cross didn’t answer the man or his partner as he simultaneously twisted in his seat and drew his firearm in a single motion. But, Alas, he was not fast enough.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Mallen, face scowling, arm outstretched, palm up. A single searing beam of light burst from the man’s hand and hit Cross full force, right in his rib cage, under his right arm. The force of impact made it seem as if he’d been hit by a freight train. Cross’ body careened across the street and hit the side of a building, where it slumped down like a broken toy. The man was down and clearly unconscious. A burning sizzling sound issued from under his arm as smoke and the smell of burnt flesh filled the air.

His firearm was no longer in his hand.

“And here I was just lookin’ for some ‘locks…huh!” Mallen exclaimed boasting in triumph. He looked down at the agent’s fallen bike.

Bystanders began to quickly dissipate the area, some gasping in surprise, but no one became hysterical. This was, business as usual, after all.

“Ducati? Well, Don’t mind if do.”

With a satisfied grin on his face. He reached down to pick-up Cross’ ‘sweet ride’.

Captain Haze had an assistant hand two datapads to Cameron and Daisy.

“Not to worry, sir. She’s in good hands. We’ll keep you updated.” He added, after following the Deputy Director’s gaze regarding the diminutive lady he’d just rescued.

“With your successful recovery of the suit, White Star has gained a crucial asset. We can begin the training of pilots when you give the word, sir.”

“Locally, we have several missions already active. We have an agent responding to a collar attempt uptown concerning three metas, there’s also a report coming in that a Sentinel was sent to face a High Level Meta in the same area. In addition, we also have a joint effort underway with one of our foreign allies, which is currently in progress. And as expected, Revengeance has successfully neutralized the Sentinel that came after you.”

A nod from the good captain.

“Also, deep surveillance of H.A.M.M.E.R activity suggests a point of interest in the Jersey Wilds. They have lost three Claws in one sitting, and it wasn’t to one of our agents. Granted, we need more details before we make any moves whatsoever.”

    “However, globally…..”

Captain Haze would have continued if it weren’t for a sudden update to his personal ear piece.

“Damn it!” The man exhibited a pained expression for only a second before regaining his composure. “Send a medical team. Hurry!”

Immediately he turned and relayed the news.

“We have an agent down just off Union Square. He was with a trainee, assisting local allies with a ‘High Priority’ escort mission. This concerns that joint Op I was referencing a moment ago. It’s of critical importance that the package reaches its destination. Deputy Chief Giles, would you mind doing the honors, we have no one else in that area.”

Captain Haze looked to Cameron for an answer, then at Daisy for support.

The Stepford Triplets & Monin Bellascort
    Upper West Side, NYC

The black sedan came screeching seemingly from nowhere and fishtailed right in front of the three blondes, no make that four. The front passenger door swung open and a dapper dressed red-headed man leaned out, speaking to them with some haste.

“My name is Dr. Redstone. I’m an ally, hop in quickly! You cannot remain here.”

Sebastian immediately felt the tell-tale buzz of his mind being read, and did not resist it. He had kept his eye on Liz after he’d left the schwarm eatery, just in case the Bounty Hunter became a problem in his absence, and had thus learned about the HAMMER deployment.

“What about…?” Mandee wondered aloud, as she momentarily looked-up at the sky, then went inside the opened passenger door.

“He’s fine!” Phoebe asserted, opening the back passenger door, going in, then easing Eliza after her.

“He’d better be!” Celeste puffed out, before she too entered the vehicle after Eliza and closed the door behind her.

With everyone inside, Dr. Redstone stepped on the gas. The vehicle wasn’t even his, but it would be put to good use.

    *****

Some distance away, Monin casually swam up to the 79th Street Boat and Yacht Marina. Some line fishers and boat owners looked at him with open curiosity and a good measure of incredulity, most likely because they saw him as someone who was just trespassing. Of course, they would not engage and would rather he simply pass by them without trouble.

Above them, the sound of helicopters could be heard as they moved towards the Hudson River.

Back at the Rehearsal studio, Chuck encountered the strangest sight of the day.

Armed HAMMER soldiers, strewn everywhere, sleeping on the job.

    H.A.M.M.E.R. H.Q, 725 5th Ave

There were no delays in his schedule. Daken was afforded an ample room, a fresh new uniform, and pretty much anything else he needed. It was little over an hour before he was in one of the command offices within the HAMMER HQ.

    50th Floor.

The office Daken found himself in was spacious. It had a modern, yet spartan flair to it, decked with the latest technologies. The HAMMER Symbol dominated the far wall, a semi circular desk framed the symbol, and Lord Stryfe sat at its center.

A long table with a dozen comfortable chairs, six on each side, rested before the semi circular desk. The room was fully carpeted and the floor to ceiling windows allowed for a magnificent view of the city. Central air made the indoor environment feel just right.

A full service rolling bar sat nearby. A see through inner-wall displayed many screens with various updates and other visual curiosities.

Taskmaster sat on the left side of the long table, located at the point closest to the desk. Moonstone sat on the right side, her legs crossed, as she faced Daken, her expression was light, tinged with a hint of curiosity and concern.

“So….” She started in a light tone. “Tell us, what do you remember?”

“Excellent, but before you go….” the monk reached into his garment and pulled out a rolled up parchment, a scroll, which was tied in the middle.

“…take this. It’s a scroll of return. It’s to be used in case of emergency. If there’s a situation you cannot escape, read it aloud, it will transport you back here, to the sanctum.”

Tenzin took a step back and looked at his pupil.

“Well, you certainly look…” he paused suddenly and blushed, while looking slightly uncomfortable all at once. “…ready.” He managed to finish with a composed face.

    “Light be with you.”

Tenzin would walk his transformed pupil to the door and attend to any last second questions or request, before returning to their guest. The clock was ticking and it was imperative for him to seek the wisdom of an Elder.

The problem with modern TV programs, was that there were too many to choose from and most were not very entertaining. It was a wonder people still watched TV at all. Still, Shelly would find herself surfing channels, searching between comedy, drama, science, anime, paranormal, local news and many others.

Although she was distracted, the sensation of being observed would return and grow stronger with each passing moment. The light of the TV would grow slowly dimmer. The sensation that something was trying to come through the dark itself would also grow.

The shadows. There was something…in the shadows.

Zara knew when it was time to be patient and when it was time to act.

She throttled the ninja directly at the one called Mallen. If she could get a direct line at him she would knock him down with the bike. If not, she would launch herself from the bike and tackle him bodily. She threw off her helmet in preparation to go Zero-G...

SGC fingered the scroll for a moment, then nodding that he understood enough to hopefully not fumble when it came time to use it he found a spot in his 'trench coat' to store it. Likely a pocket in his actual robes that would match up? Honestly as he brushed back the hair that had fallen into his vision he did not understand this spell at all. It was delightfully curious though, and. . .as other things shifted in his vision and on him. . .very disturbing.

“Well, you certainly look…” he paused suddenly and blushed, while looking slightly uncomfortable all at once. “…ready.” He managed to finish with a composed face.

"Light be with you as well Master." SGC stated, somewhat uncomfortable for being looked at, yet for entirely different reasons then he was used to. Who knew desire could be as disconcerting as revulsion? Turning he quickly headed out into the world to see what he could, well what 'she' could learn.

Focus and passion often times leads to tunnel vision.

Zara throttled her bike and barreled forth, fully intent on running down Mallen.

The man had just blasted Agent Cross with his bare hands and was now poised to steal the man’s own bike as if it were simple loot for the taking. He was clearly oblivious to everything else around him. Zara was so focused on Mallen, it would be too late do do anything, even if she by chance, happened to notice a bandana wearing young man as he launched himself at Mallen.

Blue would successfully tackle Mallen and for that moment, hold the man’s arms down, as he was reaching for the Ducati’s handles. In that same instance, Zara’s ninja would fully collide with Mallen, crashing into him!

All three would go sprawling like billiard balls from the impact.

Zara would find herself temporarily airborne, yet able to land unharmed if she reacted in time. Her bike spun out of control, coming to a stop when hitting an empty park bench ( very lucky). She would even have time to reflect that hitting Mallen was almost the same as hitting a brick wall.

Both Mallen and Blue would find themselves separated by several meters due to the force of the collision, both would be on their backs in the middle of the street.

Cars would screech to a halt, some drivers would attempt to drive around them ( taxi drivers from the look of it ), while others hurled expletives their way. A semi-loose crowd would form, attracted by the commotion. Some looked on, others ran away, while others took snapshots, or began to record the incident.

Mallen got up, laughing and amused.

“What’s this? What….who the heck are you people? Who cares! You wanna play with me, huh? You wanna play!!?”

Mallen laughed again and looked around to the crowd, a wild look in his eyes. He made daring motions to both Zara and Blue.

    "Well, C'mon!!"

This time, he was ready for their attacks.

The captain had an assistant hand over a couple of data pads to him and Daisy, which was very helpful. He took it gratefully, his eyes taking all the information in as he was also being talked to.

“Not to worry, sir. She’s in good hands. We’ll keep you updated.”

“Very good, I’m quite curious as to her story,” he stated with his eyes still glued to the datapad for the moment. Yes, her story had to be interesting. Any time someone got involved with pym particles, that was a nigh guarantee.

“With your successful recovery of the suit, White Star has gained a crucial asset. We can begin the training of pilots when you give the word, sir.”

THAT got him looking up, his eyebrows raised. Pilots? As in…hand over the suit? Wait. No, no, no. That's just not gonna happen. If they had any idea as to the history of this particular suit...

If they were to wait for his word on that order, they’d be waiting a long time. Circumstances depending, of course. There was just too much. Too much unknown variables going on right now. The fact that he was even a White Star member to begin with, let alone a Deputy Chief, was a loop he was still processing. He said nothing. For the moment. Best to get the rest of the intel first.

So that was the code name she went under, huh? Noted. There was a lot there to unpack, but Gemini did ask one question before Captain Haze continued. He needed a little more context.

“Which foreign ally are we talking about, Captain? Forgive me, my head was a little rung earlier,” he gave a small laugh to playfully disguise his ignorance. Given his apparent position within the organization, there should be no reason for the Captain to read anything else into it.

"Also, deep surveillance of H.A.M.M.E.R activity suggests a point of interest in the Jersey Wilds. They have lost three claws in one sitting, and it wasn’t to one of our agents. Granted, we need more details before we make any moves whatsoever.”

Hm. That could either be very good for them or very troubling. Wild cards were a distressingly common element in their field of work. Whether SHIELD or White Star. Or even HAMMER for that matter.

    “However, globally….”

Cameron had been looking down at the data pad for a moment again, waiting for the captain’s report to continue when he noted the pause. He glanced up to look at him quizzically, but managed to figure out he was being relayed information in real time. The sudden expression had his own harden.

“Damn it! Send a medical team. Hurry!”

    “What is it?”

The helmet was already back on, the eyes’ glow activating to show his immediate consent. Gemini took one look at Daisy and nodded.

“Looks like work is never done, as usual.” His head swiveled to face Haze one more time. “Now I really need to know that foreign ally.”

As soon as he had his answer, he nodded.

“Right. Very well, I’m on my way. Send me the details while I’m en route. Who am I looking for and what do we know of the immediate enemy.”

Just like that, he was going invisible once more and the moment those bay doors opened just wide enough…

He was off and racing into the sky.

“Jarvis, give me the quickest route that has no sentinels in it.”

Agent down. Trainee. High Priority. Foreign Ally Joint Operation. Escort. This was perhaps one of the worst combinations he had heard in some time. Oh and the world had completely changed somehow when he had freaking blinked evidently. So yeah, this was definitely one of the worst combinations he had ever heard.

    Cameron Giles a.k.a Gemini
En route to support Escort Mission, NYC

The ‘invisible’ Mark IV Suit streaked in relative silence as piloted by Gemini maintaining a low altitude in order to avoid being sighted by enemy surveillance. Granted, Cameron could not sustain being unseen indefinitely, but then again, he wouldn’t have to.

The information Deputy Chief Giles requested came in instantly and Jarvis fielded the data, including the most direct aerial route to the Escort Team.

Jarvis: [Here’s the information you requested, sir.

The Escort Team is comprised of allies known to White Star. Currently they have been dubbed as Team Psion. They are a local trio of young metas who indirectly support the resistance. The trio is comprised of Psion: a Prime Mover ( molecular control), Blue: a Prime Somatic Regenerator ( on par with Weapon X’s Wolverine and a bit of a local hero ) and Aegis: a scaling ’strongman’ ( she is the team’s sole female, her strength ability range is still unknown ).

They were chosen for their keen knowledge of the New York City area.

Team Psion was being shadowed by Agent Cross: A White Star Officer and SHIELD veteran, (He appears to be down at the moment ). Along with Agent Zara Chang: A White Star trainee and a former Chinese Corporate spy. She now goes by the code name: Zero G which hints at her metahuman ability to manipulate gravity at a base level.

The package is being carried by Adam, who is to be escorted to an abandoned Landing Pad on East Houston and the FDR drive. The following folder is double encrypted, sir. I’ll unpackage it and make it available to you.

Adam carries what is strongly being consider as a potential cure for the Malformed virus. Testing cannot be conducted state-side. The Kingdom of Wakanda has agreed to assist in this research and is preparing to airlift the subject. However, it is imperative that their presence be not discovered on American soil as per treaty agreements. They too are taking a great risk.

Team Psion and Team Cross have been located. They are currently engaged with and unknown meta. There are some feeds on social media I will link here.

White Star has sent a medical team to recover Agent Cross, however, local authorities have also been informed of the conflict in progress.

Coming up on our target destination in less than 60 seconds, sir.]

Daisy had traded looks with Cameron before he left. They were not telepaths, but they had worked very closely together and consequently developed an unspoken understanding of each other’s gestures.

“There he goes again….” Daisy commented, as he departed through the roof. A small smile graced her features, as she shook her head lightly. There was a whole lot going on and no downtime to sort things through. Fine, they’d just have to figure it all out on the move. What else was new?

“Oh, Captain Haze?” Daisy turned to look at the soldier as if remembering something.

“Yeah, about training those pilots…uhm...I think there’s a change of plans. Let’s discuss it in your office, shall we?”

“Yes, sir.” The Captain nodded respectfully.

Without hesitation, Captain Haze turned to lead Daisy. “Would you like some coffee?” He asked as they walked.

“Please. Black, no sugar. I need the kick.” Daisy confessed easily, and mouthed the words 'Thank you.'

“I hear you and you're welcome.”

The two could relate to the stress of the job. They both laughed at that.

At least some things were still the same.

Blue watched almost in horror as the loudmouth yelled and started to raise his hand. The bandanna clad hero ran from the corner as fast as he could, her heart pounding in his chest, sucking in breaths preparing for a fight. The bright light from the man's hand grew brighter, and brighter and time seemed to slow. He could the time slipping away, the moment to act was seconds ago, now he was jut acting out of instinct. The light grew brighter, then in slow motion he was forced to watch a burst of light strike the man on the bike in the chest sending him flying.

Once again Blue was a little late.

    'Good job little late hero'

Casey's eyes went wide watching the power of the blast, it was enough to send a body flying, what would it do to Blue? While she knew he could recover from a lot, that was a powerful hit.

Blue was unafraid and still in motion. His mind processing everything as fast as possible. He saw the other bike coming right towards the meta, and thus right toward him, all that mattered was getting that man's hands down. The Azure Guardian reached to wrap his arms around the criminal's chest, hoping to pin his arms and removed the threat from the woman now bearing down on him. If Blue got hit, so be it.

Casey looked to Zephyr hoping he could do that trick again, hoping that she didn't have to intervene.

Blue managed to tackle the man, but wasn't able to hold on to him as the woman and her bike slammed into them, sending them all sprawling onto the street.

Adam jaw fell open as he looked-on in disbelief.

"What's happening?" He asked, looking to Psion and Aegis.

The man was getting up, seemingly unhurt as he squared off, ready for a fight.

Psion grit his teeth mostly with determination, but some anger and disappointment were mixed in.

With his sense, he could see that the belligerent meta was powerful, clear signatures of heightened density and energy marked this being as having great ability, but it was his reckless conduct that made him dangerous; this man was justifying the fears of those who stood against metahumans and it was very likely that this villain would do harm to anyone in his path.

“Move behind this wall and stay behind me.” he instructed to both Adam and Aegis.

He quickly typed in for Doc to patch in communications to White Star as he spoke through the commlink to relay his findings to Blueline.

“Blue, this guy seems to be super dense and super charged with energy, don’t get hit. The lady may be a meta as well, but I think she was with the guy who got hit. He’s White Star. I will do what I can to help him. The package remains secure and we stand ready to assist.” his words came quickly but clearly for time was of the essence.

Mustering his concentration and from his position away from the action, Psion prepared to multitask.

The first order would be to reverse the damage on the downed White Star agent; replicating sinew and bone and reconnecting tissue was a sideway of repairing the damage, a healing of sort. The man was unconscious and perhaps that was for the best, it was fortunate that the White Star symbol on the shoulder of his uniform wasn’t blown away to pieces. But Psion would have helped him regardless of affiliation, the endless violence and senseless suffering needed to be opposed by those who promote peace and harmony amongst the peoples, this was part of his duty as a hero.

Secondly, the gun needed to be retrieved, that was a simple task as well as repairing the damaged armor on the downed agent.

The third part was the hardest, making sure that Blue didn’t get blown to bits.

“Hold for a bit, we’ll back them up.” he said to Aegis.

Behind his darkened visor, Psion’s silver eyes darted to and fro as his mind worked on ways to assist in the unfolding confrontation. He kept his senses alert, ready to anticipate, counter and possibly prevent any disaster. Moreover, the Escort Mission was still in progress.

“You have a man down White Star, do you copy?” He also had to keep and ‘eye’ on the downed agent to make sure that no one attempted to rob the unconscious man, this being NYC and all.

It looked that this was one of those days were the kids gloves may need to come off.

Blue steeled himself preparing to be hit by about 700lbs traveling at 50mph. He took the impact and was sent flying, though not as far as he was expecting. Seems Mallen was made or sterner stuff. The landing was far from graceful, Blue's head first bouncing, then scraping against the unforgiving pavement. As his body tumbled his arm smacked against a metal man hole cover sending more pain radiating through his body as the bone snapped. A cry of pain came from the hero as he cradled his arm.

The pain subsided, but his head was still swimming. He knew he had to get up so he did being ginger with his limb that was clearly broken he got to his feet, blood streaming down his face from the massive roadrash that covered his forehead. A bit of white bone was seen for only a moment before it was hidden away again by Blue's healing flesh. Taking a breath, the hero violently set his bone gritting his teeth again and letting out a strangled groan. Quickly the bone healed but the pain still echoed in him. His body wanted him to stop, to take a break to recover from the beating it had just suffered, but his heart wouldn't let him. This man was a danger, and Blue would be the one to stop it.

He locked eyes with the other person, the woman that was driving the motorbike. Had there been a moment to breathe he might have questioned her choice of attire, but there wasn't. There was a threat and it had to be stopped.

The challenge was issued and Blue would answer, charging right at the man.

Casey followed the instructions staying behind Psion and keeping Adam behind her. She gripped the young man's hand, in part to keep him calm, and to keep her calm. Part of her knew Blue was tough, that he could take these hits but, it didn't solve the gut churning unease she had when she watched him shrug off a brutal beating that would have left others on the ground crying. Her grip on Adam's hand grew tighter as she watched her friend charge headlong into danger yet again.

Would this be Blue's final fight?

Adam did as he was instructed without hesitation and peeked his head out, just enough to watch the unfolding scene with one eye. Meanwhile, Doc confirmed contact with White Star.

[ Psion Team, we are sending in support. Protect the package at all costs, if you fail to deliver it in the next 10 minutes, we will be forced to abort.]

Zara, Blue, Aegis and Psion received this communication over their ear-pieces.

Psion was having a greater challenge than expected. Repairing living tissue was always time consuming, however, the protective weave in Agent Cross' armor was comprised of an alloy he was not familiar with. Between dealing with a new material and finding a lost firearm, his concentration was split and slowed the process of his objectives. Fortunately, locating the lost gun in his immediate area did not take longer than it should have.

Doc, however, had further information for Psion : [ /Doc: Psion- Local authorities are being informed of a public disturbance in this vicinity.]

Zara was also receiving a personal update: [/WS: A0G- A medical team is en route. Keep that meta distracted.]

Mallen waited for the young hero to launch his attack, but this time, he was ready. With a swift move almost too quick for the naked eye, he grabbed Blue by the wrist and lifted him up, so his feet were just barely touching the ground. Mallen's grip began to glow in incandescence while still holding onto Blue's wrist, burning it.

"Aha, aha, are you getting it now?" He taunted.

Psion would sense them first as they drew near. Adam spied them from behind the wall.

    Morlocks.

Someone else had jumped at Mallen; one of the party she was supposed to be protecting! Zara skidded to abort but too late. She couldn't slow down the bike or make it lighter, and it hit Mallen just as the other agent tackled him. There was a sudden confusing multiple crash.

Zara leapt away safely, somersaulting three times before landing lightly into a crouch.

The other guy had it worse, scraping half his face off and maybe breaking his arm. Zara watched, wide eyed, as the wounds healed right in front of her.

She switched her attention back to Mallen and blinked. Her ninja had just bounced off him, like he was solid as a skyscraper. Her nice shiny new bike lay nearby. It would need new paint but luckily it was light enough and her skid had avoided more serious damage. Forgive me, Nolan, she cringed.

The other agent was up and looked like he was abandoning his mission for Mallen. Voices chattered in her ear.

"Hey... Blue?" she remembered his name from the brief, and called across to catch his attention. "I'm White Star, too. I'm your back-up! You need to protect your friends. I'll deal..."

To her horror, he completely ignored her and charged at Mallen. Nolan's attacker easily countered Blue's attempted assault and caught him one handed. Unnatural energies coalesced in Mallen's mighty fists.

"Aha, aha, are you getting it now?" he taunted.

Somebody spoke in her ear. [Keep that meta distracted!]

Zara nodded. She burst into a series of cartwheels and jinking flips. With concentration, she altered gravity and sped up to the blink of an eye. A star-bright beam of energy scorched past her. Then she made a sideways leap to Mallen's flank.

It might have been her imagination, but up close he seemed to have grown in stature. He was huge. She spun and put all her energy into a roundhouse, straight-leg kick to his hip, with a yelled "Kyaaa!" to focus her mental energy into the strike…

“ Ten minutes…” Psion muttered to himself with a tinge of frustration; mission time had changed and White Star wanted the package to be on the move.

Just at that moment the supercharged villain countered Blue’s tackle and picked him up by the wrist, lifting the bandana hero off the ground and burning him as the powerful grip began to glow with incandescent energy.

He immediately extended his hand to prevent Aegis from going forward, it was as much to stop her and himself from entering the fray.

“Blue, Aegis…” Psion spoke, grateful for the commlink upgrades. “ The police are being called and there are Morlocks incoming and White Star is sending back up…you need to disengage…!”

His words trailed off momentarily as he saw, but more keenly felt, the female agent move with sudden incredible speed. It was a wondrous thing to see, acrobatic skills and martial training blending into a potent attack.

“Kyaaa!” she yelled, transferring the gathered momentum (and then some) into her strike.

Seeing an opening to assist, Psion instantly manipulated the pavement to entrap the villain, covering his feet and legs up to the knees, head and hands also covered and sealed. The powerful hand that held onto Blue was also disrupted to gain his release and covered by the stony material.

If one were to look at the villain out of context he would appear to be an unfinished statue or a terrible mime.

“Blue, tell the lady that her partner is in stable condition and we have his service weapon. Aegis and I are moving to deliver the package.”

The last part he said holding Casey’s hand, he needed her to continue the mission and to give Blue a sense of security, something less to worry about if he decided to stay behind and see this fight through. He hoped that she understood the need for cooperation by his simple gesture.

“Blue, please work with the others. Package en route to delivery point.” It was almost funny how his tone kept changing from friendly to official.

Taking a deep breath he turned to Aegis and Adam.

“You know that he will never forgive me if you stay.” his dark gloved hand would give a tender squeeze to Aegis’ for emphasis.

“We’ll have to move quickly. I’ve mapped the most direct route to our destination, I’ll have to ‘Hallway’ and ‘Tunnel’ us through in some places, but we should reach just in time.”

Psion disliked moving on and separating the group, but he disliked failure even more; the job took a rough turn but they would make it through.

“Let’s try not to run into more trouble, shall we?”

The peculiar trio moved away from yet another hotspot of activity, stealthily disappearing behind a wall and onto their final destination.

Blue could feel the sting of heat against his skin, the smell of burning flesh as the glowing hand held firm to him. His breaths were hissed through his teeth as he fought back the pain focusing on the man currently holding a death grip on his wrist.

Psion rang through on his com, time was running short but he couldn't disengage, not with his hand caught in a vice like grip. He would have to get free but, how could he his feet were taken off the ground he couldn't get any leverage. Though a plan was forming, he'd done just a little bit of training over his time with Zephyr, and some of his own study. It wasn't much but maybe it was enough.

The other White Star agent intervened throwing a hard kick to his side. Blue seeing a moment swung himself up, using the arm holding him as monkey bar. Draping one leg over the man's other shoulder and slipping the other under the shoulder that was currently turned to hold him aloft. In this position Blue crossed his legs, locking one ankle under his knee, starting to cinch in a triangle choke. Normally this move was done on the ground but, he didn't have the strength to try and take it to the ground.

This odd lifted choke would have to do. As Zephyr covered the man in stone Blue kept the choke trusting his friend to avoid catching him in the stone tomb he was trying to encase the meta in.

As he tightened the choke he looked to the agent.

"Sorry about meeting like this..." He quipped his wrist still burning. "But your partner is stable, his weapon is safe." He tried to smile, though it was more gritted teeth, not that she would see under his bandanna. "We need to finish this quick before other's show up."

Casey could feel the fear starting to take over her, seeing Blue all hung out to dry. She'd seen this man's power seen what he could do, and it scared her. Holding Adam's hand tighter she almost took a step forward, almost through about letting that monster inside her loose. But Psion stopped her, holding out his hand he halted her forward movement. He took her other hand and gave it a squeeze one she reciprocated. She didn't want to leave Blue, but they still had a job to do. Her heart felt torn, leaving him in the clutches of this monster didn't sit well with her, but she had chosen to help the White Star. Did she honor her word to this rag-tag band of freedom fighters, or did she stay and try and save her friend. She knew Blue would tell her to run, to make sure Adam got there safe. She could almost hear him in her head.

    'Go don't worry about me.'

That never stopped her from worrying, he was always doing this, throwing himself into danger and telling her and Psion to run. Part of her knew that one day it was going to get him killed. That this lone wolf mentality would end his life and there would be nothing she could do about it. She hated him, she hated what he was doing to her and to himself. She could see the pain etched on his face as he fought back. There wasn't much time they had to go now, Blue wouldn't listen not to anyone. She had to go but she didn't have to be happy about it.

There was a tear in her eye as she turned away.

"And I'll never forgive him if he dies." Was all she said as she followed behind Psion.

Zara's powerful kick was ineffective against her target. If it weren't for her level of training, she would have shattered her leg, but pain would be her only reward instead of shattered bones. Still, there was a beneficial side-effect to her attack. Mallen had turned his head to look at her, and smiled an ugly leering smile. Zara had become his focus, which meant he was not prepared for Blue's maneuver, or Psion's encasement.

The look of surprise on his face must have been priceless to Zara as Blue choked him long enough for Psion to cover him completely in concrete, rendering him immobile. The young metas had succeeded in their team work.

The Ravens cowed at each other, then hovered before perching themselves on a nearby ledge.

Sirens could be heard wailing in the distance.

Several Morlocks walked up, yet kept a discreet distance as they looked directly at Blue and his team, silently waiting for any given sign, incase they needed assistance.

Adam couldn't help but give out a small 'Yay' for his escorts. He felt great relief wash over him and made to follow Psion. He never understood bad guys, and likely never would.

Some bystanders clapped, while others moved away due to the sirens. But at least there was a pause in the battle.

Psion would know that pause would not last for long, for inside the concrete prison he had formed, energy was gradually building.
Not only that, there was also something else quickly approaching from the air.

The sound of clapping was not too distant from the three young metas as they moved toward the pick up point.
Psion plotted a new route in his head as he considered the option of flying the group to their destination, the change of ETA was too close and the abandoned helipad was now too far by foot, and running might prove too taxing for young Adam.

Now with the villain ‘neutralized’, Psion wondered if Blue was going rejoin them or stay behind to network with the Morlocks or help the lady White Star secure her unconscious partner.

He had extended his sense range early in the mission and now he could still detect Blueline and everyone at the park.

Suddenly coming to a stop the raven haired meta spoke into his commlink, a sense of urgency detectable in his words.

“Blue, he’s going to blow, I can see the build up taking place. Tell everyone to take cover, he’s going to blow!”

Even from a few blocks away Psion turned in the direction of the park, his hand balled into fists. They probably had a few more seconds before the energy build up erupted, and he wracked his brain for ways to minimize the blast that was sure to come.

redirect shrapnel, high density static cold air to absorb the kinesis and heat, possibly diffuse light discharge, ice containment, hard water containment…’ his mind raced.

Not too high above he detected a fast flying metallic form, humanoid in stature and definitely not a Sentinel; friend or foe was yet to be determined.

“I’m so flying us outta here after this…” he announced to his two companions.

“Someone better take this guy out…where’s a telepath when you need one?!” he demanded from the Universe at large, but expected no answer. A grunt of frustration and his closed fist were the only indications of his readiness.

Once the tomb was in place Blue let his legs go loose and he dropped to the ground unceremoniously before getting to his feet. He hissed in pain one last time as his wrist healed from it's burn, leaving only a blackened hoodie sleeve. Looking to the Morlocks he pointed at his eyes and then gestured to his friends running towards their goal...or at least he hoped that's what they were doing. They needed someone to watch out for them. Blue had the White Star, at least for now.

Moving to the fallen agent he looked to the woman that had backed him up in that fight.

"I'll help you move him we have to get out of here. Our statue friend over there is about to go critical." He explained hooking his arms underneath the injured agent's shoulders. "Get out of here." He shouted at the crowd hoping they would get the hit quick enough. "You know my name..." he said to the motorbike riding woman. "But I don't know yours..."

He pulled himself to the docks and out of the water. People were staring and he was starting to get self conscious.

"Cmon people." He muttered, walking down the docks in completely soaked clothes. "Never seen a guy decide to take a dip in the middle of the day."

His body felt heavy, and it wasn't just because of his clothes. His stomach rumbled and he looked around. He stopped...and a smile came to his face. There was a cafe down 79th street. He could use some food. He heard the helicopters overhead... Dammit. He'd need to change clothes first. And what about Liz? Too many thoughts. One at a time, you idiot. Change of clothes was the first priority. He picked up into a wet, soggy, dripping jog. There was a Marshall's on Broadway and he still had his wallet and phone on him. He wasn't an expert on helicopters but the ones overhead didn't sound too far away. He blended with the rest of the pedestrians unless you looked too close. Hopefully, he could get some clothes and then plan his next move before whoever sent that giant robot sent another to pick him up.

After clicking thru what felt like a thousand channels, Shelly leaned back with some pop tarts and was bouncing between nature films and cartoons. As she laid back, she was feeling distracted. It caused her to sit up, and look around. The same feeling that she had felt in the void was returning, except this time, the sensation felt stronger. If one thing Shelly learned from being a runaway, was never to dismiss your gut feelings. She stuffed the rest of her pop tart into her pocket and grabbed her coat, tossing it around her. Not because she was cold, but she wanted to hide the fact that she had the collar around her neck if need be.

When Shelly noticed that the TV set began to grow dim, a few scenes from horror movies started to play through her head. She had the sensation that something was trying to come through the darkness itself to where she was.

Shelly grabbed her keys and phone and shot out of the house. If anything was to happen, she didn't want it to happen to Mrs. Wesley's home. It was dark. A bit past midnight. Hopefully, the streets were empty. There were a few places still open. But she wasn't looking for open places. She checked outside, to make sure none of those cursed Sentinel machines were outside. And then she ran to the park. IF she was going to encounter something, she wanted to make sure she didn't put anyone else in danger. Also, no cameras were in the park. She pulled her collar up, hiding her face.

"What do you want?" she growled into the darkness. She was sure she would get a response. The sensation was too powerful to ignore.

Zara recovered from the encounter with the supercharged being. The skin of her bare shin was bruised - she had given a great gravity surge into that kick - and Mallen's squeezing grip around her waist had been fearsome. It was a shock to have come face to face with an opponent that so quickly proved to be so powerful. But she had done her small part, attracting his attention along with Blue long enough for Psion to work his magic.

And so, working together, they had neutralised the Mallen. By twisting her narrow body and adding a gravity boost, she had slipped through Mallen's now rigid fingers.

While the huge meta had held them both, Blue had told Zara that Agent Cross was alive. Only now, as they faced each other beside the recently created meta-statue, a clapping crowd forming around them, did those words sink in. Nolan is OK!

Together they raced to the fallen White Star Agent and Zara could see it for herself. He was in a bad way but looked like he would pull through. Elated with relief, she immediately thought about how to move him to safety.

By her side, Blue said, "I'll help you move him. We have to get out of here. Our statue friend over there is about to go critical."

Zara blinked. Oh, this isn't over yet. She looked around for something to shield Cross if there was some sort of explosion coming, while Blue shouted to the crowd to move on. They were not listening, just too excited to observe these two new young superheroes. People were taking pictures with smartphones.

Blue was talking to her again. "You know my name, but I don't know yours..."

She nodded back. "Sorry, I'm Zara. Thanks for that, back there. Mallen would have had me if I was alone. How about we move Cross over there?"

She pointed. A sturdy low wall guarded a stairwell down to a subway entrance. It was not far and just a few steps down would give good protection against any imminent blast - for all of them.

Getting help with moving the bulk of an unconscious person was helpful. He was still moving with haste keeping one eye on the statue that could go up any moment. Nodding his head he guided them over to the subway wall it should cover them and protect them from any shrapnel but that wouldn't protect the group standing around marveling at the display of powers, might and heroics.

"Get out of here!" He shouted again, hoping it would get through to them. Crouching down keeping out of sight but also subtly putting his body between Zara and the rest of the world, trying to do what he could to keep the agents safe. "That was a good bit of heroics back there." He said a bit of a smile on his face, trying to keep the situation calm. "Quite the kick you put on him. Guy has to be super tough to take a hit like that. That's why I went for a choke, though not really a powerhouse…"

Aegis, Blueline, Psion, Zero G & Gemini
    Big Trouble in Union Square

Time was ticking and not slowing one bit.

From their perch, the Raven’s continued to watch.

The clapping stopped, prompted by Blue’s warning shout. But instead of leaving, some of the crowd were wondering what the bandana wearing hero was going on about. Traffic had slowed to a literal crawl as onlookers in cars tried to figure out what was happening. Did the two bikes crash into each other? And who placed a strange statue in the middle of the street? Some weird and inconvenient street artist! Only in New York!

Adam looked at Psion with growing concern. His new friend seemed very focused as he lingered, because he was worried about imminent danger. He’d stopped the girl, Aegis, from helping. That made Adam unsure as to what to do himself.

Across the street, a van which was marked as ‘ambulance’ came to a stop next to the subway. The driver remained inside, while three men in lab coats exited. Two were carrying a stretcher and one walked over to pick-up Cross’ Ducati. The two with the stretcher reached Zara and Blue’s location.

Lane sent us.” The lead man spoke clearly, yet with his voice lowered. Zara would recognized the name belonging to Lane Greymalkin, the logistics operator at White Star. “We’re here for Agent Cross.” The stretcher was placed on the floor and at once the men began to move the wounded agent. They weren’t asking for permission as they moved with practiced efficiency.

“Do you need a stim, Agent? For the pain.” The man would say, after sparing a quick glance at the red mark on Zara’s leg.

Blue’s street savvy would inform him that various Morlocks were in position to assist him. They had gotten his message, but hadn’t moved because his friends, whom they knew, were still in the area. Blue and everyone else would hear the approaching sirens, but the young hero would spy two SUVs belonging to the over-eager Bounty Hunters, trying to get closer, but they were stuck in traffic, as would the police, or H.A.M.M.E.R for that matter. That, of course, would not last for long.

A strange whistling sound would fill the air just then, followed by a gust of wind, but the source could not be seen by those gathered around, but that too would be short lived.

A loud ‘crack’ would split the air, then a light would flash, before a thunderous boom would resound the park, followed by a shower of melting debris.

Except, the shower of melting debris and all the heat that followed would be inexplicably redirected and funneled upward in a neat thermal column.

“Yay, you did it.” Adam would congratulate Psion quietly, as he would not want to attract attention.

“Well, THAT was fun!!” Mallen would shout out loud, a gleeful smile on his face, his arms outstretched to either side of him as both his hands glowed with incandescent power. He seemed more excited than annoyed, if anything.

“So who wants to go next!?”

Gemini would have touched-down at the same moment of the explosion while still remaining invisible. The social media feed Jarvis shared would bring him completely up to date.

The Deputy Chief would also note one of the Morlocks begin to step forward. This one was way over 6’, quite taller than Mallen, but three times as wide; his leather Morlock vest barely fit him.

Mallen just leered at him, and made a taunting gesture.

    “That’s right, let’s see what you got…!”

The next round was about to begin.

    Union Square, Escort Mission

Not too many things could equal the satisfaction of a job well done, the explosion was successfully ‘diverted’ and no damage or injuries resulted from it; behind his dark visor and mask Psion allowed himself a moment to smile.

    “Whew, that was close…”

“Yay, you did it!” Adam cheered quietly.

“Hehehe, thank you, it was a bit tricky and no one got hurt.” replied the darkly clad meta, giving Adam a pat on the shoulder in sympathetic celebration.

“We’ll be back before you know it O’fearless leader.” He aimed at Blue with the usual humor, levity on the comms was always a good sign.

In ways he couldn’t explain Psion felt that Adam should become part of the team.

“It doesn’t look like it’s over yet…that guy is one tough customer, I wish we could stay to watch what’s coming, but now that Blue is out of immediate danger, we can get you to the meeting point and complete our mission, with all due haste.” He said walking them to the rear parking lot of the building.

“I observed about three sets of back up help gathered out there right now, including a metal suit of some sort that we can’t see yet, from his approach and positioning, I’d say he’s on the side of the good guys…or so I hope.” he added with a reassuring tone.

Psion positioned himself in front of Adam and Aegis with his arms outstretched on both sides and proceeded to give them instructions.

“So here's how we’re going to work the next trick…” he chuckled a little because he winked but no one could see his face behind the dark mask.

“Hold on to my arms, one on each side, this would make it much easier for me to maneuver us as I guide our trajectory, going high enough to not draw attention to the naked eye from the street level. I will be shrouding us with leaves and detritus to obscure our forms and….um…yea, just hold on to me if you please and trust me on this one.”

There wasn’t enough time to describe the details of this feat as much as he may have liked to, so the pleasantries were greatly edited.

The abandoned helipad was about 2.4 miles east in a direct line from Union Square, it would take a few minutes of flying at over 20mph to make good time, he could always fly faster if need.

'Head East, fly over NOHO and Alphabet City…’ he calculated mentally.

“Any questions before take off?” he asked as he waited for the other two to take their positions.

“And please note that no meals will be served during this flight.” he added with a chuckle hoping to lighten the mood and allay any fears.

    Gemini IC:

    ~Union Square, New York City~

And there was the sign that things were not quite over. That big blast, thankfully shooting straight up rather than going outward, just as he was touching down.

Whoa. Alright, that’s a lot of output.

Gemini had known things were not quite as they seemed when he had been stuck inside that statue like casing. He wasn’t sure who had pulled it off, but it was good work. Still Jarvis had managed to figure out there was an energy spike going on inside, so it was inevitable this malcontent was going to get free. Plus, he had done this plenty of times to know that that rarely kept a villainous type down for long.

Time to act fast, this guy was raring to go. And a nearby Morlock seemed ready to jump in. His mind briefly flashed to Brick before he centered only on what was before him.

    “That’s right, let’s see what you got…!”

“Alright, Jarvis. You heard him. Begin analysis of the energy he’s slinging around as well as a timer for when HAMMER agents arrive,” he whispered.

And off he went meanwhile, completely unseen by all those around them, coming up behind Mallen.

The man’s arms were held out to each side, starting to glow with power once more, that was the immediate threat he had to deal with. Guy was also extremely durable, backed up by a decent amount of strength. The live feed showed that with the motorcycle collision. Going beyond basic strength levels seemed like a safe bet, still he didn’t want to overcompensate and actually do more damage than necessary.

Thrusting his hands out, he reached out and went to grab both of his forearms right under the wrists, so he couldn’t still bend his hands where he wanted. That glowing power was step one. Grasp them, adjusting strength parameters to 30% of maximum, he held hard and yanked his hands straight up.

He was no longer aiming at anyone and now would be greatly confused he was sure.

    Step two.

His leg struck out twice in rapid succession at the back of the man’s knees. He would force him down within a second of securing his arms.

    Step three.

Now it was all about true brute forcing it. Hopefully 30% was enough and also, not too much. For at this stage, the still invisible Gemini would force the man’s hands behind his back, keeping his palms pointed straight into his own back. If he could simply subdue him like this, no matter how confused the surrounding area was; then perfect.

If anyone began to approach him with any intent. Whether to hurt him further, help in subduing him, or even just to investigate more closely…

He’d give a considerable jump away from whomever they were and try to immediately pin the man down again upon landing. If possible, he didn’t want anyone else here to get any further involved. If help was needed, that would become quickly apparent.

If not…then it was best he take charge so they could all move on to their other objectives.
