Yeah, was ambivalent about it to begin with but as far as teasers go, it has me teased.

Looking through again, the Celestial symbols stand out to me. At some point in this new phase I wanna see a 2000 foot dude give a thumbs down.

Looks like they're going for a natural lighting approach (or at least one that evokes it). Maybe it evolves as time progresses closer to the modern day, using the natural dawn effect to convey the dawn of civilization, pre-electricity, etc.

I wonder if any of members of the Eternals were snapped out of existence during "The Snappening."

The Eternals' policy of not intervening totally made me think of Star Trek's Prime Directive. So, I found that bit quite interesting. And so, I'm sure it will be covered in the film, especially with not doing anything about Thanos. Perhaps they agree with Thanos' intents, from a certain point of view.

He has the best moment in the teaser. Even my wife laughed at him for his boisterous comment about leading the Avengers.

True, but Guardians of the Galaxy had the amazing teaser trailer scored by Hooked on a Feeling, which became a number one download on iTunes. I could see why many feel "meh" about this Eternals teaser. It looks great, but its missing the pizazz of an frenetic action sequence, synced to a snazzy piece of pop music. Not that I expected it in the teaser or wanted it. I'm just happy to get a first glimpse of the movie and thrilled it didn't give away any plot points. Just how I want my trailers to be nowadays.

At any rate, I think coming off of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, there is a period of comparison and "let down," from the emotional highs and thrills of the last two Avengers film. I certainly to feel Eternals is another gateway in the MCU, much like Guardians of the Galaxy. Bringing in the cosmic side into the MCU is something Marvel Studios has done so well. I mean, it could be have corny to have something like "Avengers in space." That's typically the point in Hollywood when a film franchise has "jumped the shark."

Yeah, Chloe Zhao mentioned that she was inspired by Alejandro Iñárritu's, The Revenant, which shot on location and used natural light. Which I'm looking forward to, because most of the MCU films has a gloss to it. Eternals appears to have that organic aesthetic, which brings back old Hollywood.

Yeah, there’s definitely a different tone to this teaser that could be, not necessarily off putting but not as grabbing to casual audiences. It may not leave them excited but it’s a tone that could leave then intrigued.

I’m curious how much of that tone the final product will have- and how well they’ll manage to blend (or add) it into the existing array of MCU tones. The Avengers dinner table attempt at humor felt awkward and out of place at the end of the teaser (didn’t help that the joke itself didn’t land but that could just be because it has no character context), so I’d be mildly concerned about how other lighter moments interact with the “HBO Promo wondrous prestige” vibes.

Would say that it's mostly darker than what natural light would be, and their clothing is notalby darker than their original Kirby depictions

Well, it's natural light but it looks like a lot of it is shot at a dawn magic hour, which might explain why it feels darker.

The trailer worked for me. Like guardians of the Galaxy - I knew zero about the Eternals before watching the trailer. And like Guardians fo the Galaxy the mix of visuals, sounds, and music have me interested. Much more than the Shang-Chi trailer. What stands out most uniquely about this trailer is the sweeping passage of time the story seems to take place across and the loving winsome tenderness presented. There is a joyful sadness. That’s unusual for a super hero movie. And we don’t see a ton of action. It’s mostly establishing shots, set ups, and what looks the ends of action.

Other take aways. The opening is definitely shot at the same location as Solo: A Star Wars Story’s conclusion. Odd seeing similarly dressed people, an aged face, as well as a large space craft pull up to the shoreline. The cast is huge. And the way audio and image works I’d swear I heard a different actor than I saw. Is that Selma Hayek’s voice? That’s John Snow, but I thought it was Rob Stark before… No wait that’s Rob Stark. He sure looked like Kit Herrington in the one shot. No wait - they’re both in the movie.

At least with the trailer Marvel has done it again.

Flick's gonna look pretty at least. Nomadland looked pretty and it was all set in trailers. Lots of shots at dawn/dusk!

I need a solid "what the hell were they doing with various space aliens and Infinity Gauntlet snaps" explanation, though. Even if it's just a joke. It's a pretty sprawling cast, somebody should have gotten snapped and it's going across centuries. Don't tell me they're immune or anything!

Bonus points if Gemma Chan calls Earth a "$@$% hole" like she did as Kree in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Just gonna toss out a Comics Explained vid for why the Eternals would just stand on the sidelines while all the cosmic shenanigans were going down on Earth.

As for an Eternal getting snapped I don't know which iteration from the comics they're going with for the movie but Gaimen's take on Eternals ... they probably wouldn't have been immune to getting snapped but it also wouldn't have worked in eliminating any of them either. It's a short run if you wanna check it out. It's all in a single trade.

I read it back to back with Kirby’s run and it’s a baffling departure, to the point that I assume there’s some big retcon in between the two (presumably Gillis’ miniseries, which I haven’t read), but it may just be they let Gaiman do whatever he wanted. Which is kind of a waste, because mostly it felt like he was retreading American Gods.

I think it was "let Gaiman do whatever he wanted", but I could be wrong

Agree. The plottwist in the end who the guy who was behind it all did not feel like it fit the Ethernals since they are not really some kind of being that are stock in their forms (like how gods are presented in many settings) and can't change if they wanted, they can change without problems if they want.

Can Sprite grow up if he really wanted to? I'm not familiar enough with the Eternals to know but that was the whole basis for most of what went down in that series. It seemed like he had to remain childlike because he was made childlike for the purpose of being childlike.

And this kinda echos what seems to be the Eternals whole deal. They have these outer conflicts but also deal deal with the inner struggle of being godlike beings and yet just tools created for a very narrow purpose with the promise of annihilation hanging over their heads if they step out of line or screw up on the one job.

As I remember it did pre-Gaiman books describe them as capable of changing themself on many levels if they wanted to, most of them are narrow because they specialise in a certain thing, as in they have decided upon a hobby/role and focused on that, at the cost of their ability on other fronts. But if they wanted to they could change, either by their own power or by using the kirby-tech they have their hands on.

Makkari for example have forsake many of the Ethernals standard powers to be as fast as possible.

EDIT: but I admit that I can remember it wrong
