Max login time

I've noticed that the maximum time to stay logged in has been dropping. Have there been any security problems, or is it just better safe then sorry? Also, has it bottomed out at two weeks, or might it go lower?

 

I've been notified that tomorrow the maximum setting will be 1 hour. Sorry.

On a serious note, it was probably done to protect board security from hackers and whatnot. It's annoying, sure, but they have a reason to do so.

 

I have sock-related duties to attend t all the time so I don't mind.

 

Can't see what difference it'd make to a hacker, but still, two weeks isn't so bad.

Is it done by Snowboard, or the addies?

Yeah, zerosleep apparently decided there were better things to do then make sure the JC runs smoothly. The arse.

 

It's really rather odd...Snowboards doesn't have a developer anymore since zerosleep left, but they still manage to make little changes here and there like shortening pruning without warning us or lowering the "login time".

It's a little unnerving, too. At one point, you could set your Maximum Login Time for "one year". Then it was shortened to "one month". Now it's "two weeks". I sure hope they don't shorten it too much more!

 

So the company is doing this without telling the board administrators?

 

Apparently, unless the board is doing it on its own.

Yeah, I think I made a thread about this a couple of weeks ago when they first changed it from 1 year to 1 month. I agree with Nathan, I hope they don't knock it down more because I hate typing in passwords every time I'm here.

OK as Nate pointed out to me, I was a trifle unclear and borderline up there. I totally appreciate everything zerosleep has done for the JC, and did not mean to flame at all. I was joking, and as usual when I try to do my particular odd brand of comedy without an accompanying smiley, it comes off wrong.

 

all i can say on the subject is that i really hate typing passwords... and i dont like the time getting shortened.

Just wondering if there are any official reasons for why it has been shortend. And also, for some reason I keep getting logged out. It's happened three times today. Has anyone else had this problem?

 

Well, Snowball hasn't told us anything about the time being shortened, but the magical cookie fix solves most login problems people have.

Yep, i've noticed it's been dropping from once a year to 2 weeks for me. Every two weeks isn't so bad, but every hour would drive me nuts.

 

The time isn't a case of after an hour, it will ask you for your password, but after an hour of inactivity it will. So if you don't post or load up a page in that time, then it will ask for it.

So really, 2 weeks is more than long enough.
