Is Mayfield in the same league as Tuco?

Tuco was being hanged for murder... armed robbery of citizens, state banks and post offices... theft of sacred objects... arson in a state prison... perjury... bigamy... deserting a wife and children...kidnapping.. extortion... receiving stolen goods... selling stolen goods... passing counterfeit money... derailing a train in order to rob passengers and a host of other crimes that wouldn't be fit to post on this family friendly forum. Then again who does have a rap sheet like that? [face_laugh]

Mayfield Operation Cinder flashback spin off. Be kinda dark as he's basically committing full on genocide every episode though.

I actually think the most delicious and dramatically deep way to view his Pre-Cinder activities was as a cog in machine committing crimes that were actually somewhat seductively “practical” in appearance- assassination and counter-intelligence geared towards a goal...

...And then Cinder comes in as a startling pointless and broad-ranging brutality that has no problem sweeping him and his buddies up in the crossfire.

The really terrifying way to contrast types of evil is to give the pragmatically Lawful Evil enforcer a taste of the most petty and spiteful type of destruction-for-destruction’s sake that his allegiance actually belongs to... and in a way that almost forces him to empathize with the victims because he’s one too.

One of the things I loved about the episode was just how clear it was that Mayfeld was speaking on behalf of both his crew and the city’s citizens; it was clear that he wasn’t separating the two in his memory of the event.

You could see Mayfeld as the "anti-Andor". Instead of being a nice guy doing terrible things for a cause that's right until he has to make the choice to align has actions with the cause and his own moral compass, Mayfeld's kind of a dick going along with what seems like generally low-level dickery until it gets too dickish for even him, which actually changes his moral compass altogether (at least somewhat).

I still don’t get this. His acting was 100% consistent and great in both episodes. Just because he didn’t have a major life-defining moment in the first episode, doesn’t mean his acting for the character he was in that episode wasn’t spot on. In his first meeting with Din, in the Razorcrest when he’s poking at Din to remove his helmet so they could (said mock-sympathetically) “see his eyes,” in the standoff in the prison ship’s control room, in the moment he’s surprised by Din sneaking up behind him, his acting is pitch perfect, and not in any way surface-level comedic. And the same in the second episode, where he reaches the best level of acting in the whole series.

I don't disagree. He was great in his first appearance but hadn't been fully realised yet. This is fine, it's a natural progression for the character to be more layered in subsequent appearances.

Like Hondo in TCW, Mayfield is one of the best characters to come out of Star Wars in awhile. Loved The Believer. Bull Burr nailed it, and he deserves all the accolades.
