In the four days since security forces cleared two sit-in camps by supporters of Egypt's ousted president, Islamists have attacked dozens of Coptic churches along with homes and businesses owned by the Christian minority. The campaign of intimidation appears to be a warning to Christians outside Cairo to stand down from political activism.

I would think the more accurate reading of what's happening is that they are lashing out at a convenient scapegoat. It's one of the few targets within Egypt society that can be attacked without garnering a lot of sympathy or police protection. The Coptic Pope's backing of SCAF makes them easily the most vulnerable member of the pro-coup coalition. The important but difficult question is to what extent the Brotherhood is orchestrating or encouraging such attacks, versus largely spontaneous acts from its membership.

Regardless, though, it's certainly a fair reason to wish they were out of power. However, it falls far short of justifying the military's program of deliberate political violence, which left over 600 dead on Wednesday alone, and additional 170 odd people through Friday. Though neither side is easily "right," In both scope and intensity, this far surpasses anything serious news reports have alleged the Brotherhood to have done.

The people of Egypt should unite and construct another pyramid.

It was pretty interesting reading the local newspapers in Cairo yesterday. I suspect the English-language publication was aimed more at foreigners than locals, but the slant was still pretty clear there. The opinion letters were a bit more on-balance, but eh.

And surprise of surprises, most of the Arab monarchies are supporting the military's actions. Turkey, on the other hand, is noticeably distressed.

Turkey has an Islamist party in power at the moment with their own domestic problems.

Because someone here doesn't like me posting links that make the Muslim Brotherhood look bad.

Tarkin's solution would be more permanent, though, and would cost less lives to the Empire.

This is wholly ridiculous. Mubarak is scot-free, Sisi is still in power, but Morsi gets tried and sentenced to death? He's the least bad of the three.

Yeah, but MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD. Mubarak and al-Sisi are secular military dictators, so they're better.
