Moonlight on water is really one of the most beautiful sights. [face_love] Got it in the index! :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Indexed! :D

Well, what do you know, you get the word that inspired this challenge! ;) [face_love] #5 is:

Komorebi – a Japanese word that captures the effect of sunlight streaming through the leaves of trees, and the interplay and contrast between light and shadow that it creates (the shadows created on the ground, or even in our curtains, are part of this)

Can you guess which fandom I was reading in when I came across this word? :p I'm excited to see what you come up with for this one! [face_batting] [:D]

One more word left, and it's a good one! ;)

Oh my gosh, this is one of the most unique and beautiful challenge ideas I've ever come across!

    And I can't resist, may I please have #3? :D

Oh wow, I'm thrilled you think so! [face_blush] You may absolutely have #3! :D

Petrichor – a modern word constructed from Ancient Greek, which refers to the distinctive, earthy, pleasant scent produced when rain falls on dry soil, usually after a long, warm, dry spell
Lots of possibilities with this one! [face_batting]

Ha! I was just coming in here to post my response to your Much Ado About Nothing challenge! :p I'll get that indexed right away! :D

I ended up writing a short story in response to two of these awesome mini challenges! This is for @Pandora's Pretty, Dreamy, Yet Wistfully Sad Classical Piano Challenge and @devilinthedetails' Much Ado About Nothing Challenge:

    In Dreams We Dwell

    Really loving these challenges. ;)

Ooh, lovely to see that my Much Ado About Nothing Challenge inspired another story!=D=

I've added your story to the index, @ViariSkywalker.

(And now I will shamelessly remind everyone that if anyone is interested in some Shakespeare inspiration, there is still prompt #1 of the challenge waiting to be claimed[face_whistling])

You get the song that becomes almost the refrain of Much Ado About Nothing:

“Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more.
    Men were deceivers ever,
One foot in sea and one on shore,
    To one thing constant never.”

So after a couple months and several bumpy fits and starts, I think I've finally figured out my story for the Xenobiology challenge and am making progress. I'm hoping to finish it and start posting by the end of the month.

I finally finished mine as well. The first post is up, and it's a fairly long multi-chapter story: "Going Within, Going Without".

Thanks for creating a fun and unique challenge!

Hello, everybody! Since this thread's been a bit quiet recently, I checked with the mods on whether this thread is still accepting new challenges, and I am tickled pink that they have given their go-ahead for...

“There is two kinds of music, the good, and the bad. I play the good kind.”
    The Louis Armstrong Challenge!

With his masterful trumpet stylings, distinctive gravelly vocal timbre, and a career spanning over fifty years, Louis Daniel “Satchmo” Armstrong (1901–71) was one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time. Here are five of the many songs and standards for which he was known—pick a number and turn one into a story! (Bonus: Hidden in this list is one of Armstrong’s collaborations with Ella Fitzgerald—one of jazz’s greatest teams!) Or, once again, I can pick one for you based on what I know of your writing interests. (I actually did think of a few specific folks when I was building this list—as in, “hey, I bet so-and-so would really enjoy this song as a prompt”—but if they don't end up with those people, that's totally OK too!)

When you pick a number you'll receive lyrics and a video or recording, right here in the thread. As always, you're welcome to go in search of other videos or lyrics transcriptions as well, especially since there are several versions of these songs!

    1. Raissa Baiard: Ain't Misbehavin'
    2. WarmNyota_SweetAyesha: Stardust | Love’s Refrain
    3. amidalachick: I'll Be Glad When You're Dead, You Rascal You
    4. devilinthedetails: Let's Call the Whole Thing Off (with Ella Fitzgerald)
    5. earlybird-obi-wan: What a Wonderful World | Wonderful World

This sounds like fun and a great tribute to a wonderful musician. A favorite of my father’s!

Will you please pick one for me @Findswoman based on what you know of my writing style? [face_batting]

Oh, I love this! You guys are the best! :D Time to hand out some songs...

@devilinthedetails you get our Armstrong-Fitzgerald collaboration, with "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" (aka "I Say Potato..."). This one at first glance looks a little depressing—but keep listening and reading the lyrics to the end, and you'll see it's quite the opposite!

Things have come to a pretty pass
    Our romance is growing flat,
For you like this and the other
While I go for this and that,

Goodness knows what the end will be
    Oh I don't know where I'm at
It looks as if we two will never be one
    Something must be done:

You say either and I say either,
You say neither and I say neither
    Either, either neither, neither
Let's call the whole thing off.

You like potato and I like potahto
You like tomato and I like tomahto
    Potato, potahto, tomato, tomahto.
Let's call the whole thing off

But oh, if we call the whole thing off then we must part
And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart

So if you like pyjamas and I like pyjahmas,
I'll wear pyjamas and give up pyajahmas
For we know we need each other so we
Better call the calling off off
Let's call the whole thing off.

You say laughter and I say larfter
You say after and I say arfter
    Laughter, larfter after arfter
Let's call the whole thing off,

You like vanilla and I like vanella
    You sasparilla, and I saspirella
    Vanilla vanella chocolate strawberry
Let's call the whole thing off

But oh if we call the whole thing off then we must part
And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart

So if you go for oysters and I go for ersters
I'll order oysters and cancel the ersters
For we know we need each other so we
Better call the calling off off,
Let's call the whole thing off.

I say father, and you say pater,
I saw mother and you say mater
    Pater, mater uncle, auntie
Let's call the whole thing off.

I like bananas and you like banahnahs
I say havana and I get havahnah
    Bananas, banahnahs havana, havahnah
Go your way, I'll go mine

So if I go for scallops and you go for lobsters,
So all right no contest we'll order lobster
For we know we need each other so we
Better call the calling off off,
Let's call the whole thing off.

@Raissa Baiard for you, I have "Ain't Misbehavin'," which I think would be a fab fit for almost any of your wonderful OTPs!

    No one to talk with
    All by myself
    No one to walk with
But I'm happy on the shelf
    Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

    I know for certain
    The one I love
    I'm through with flirtin'
It's just you I'm thinkin' of
    Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

    Like Jack Horner
    In the corner
    Don't go nowhere
    What do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for
    Believe me

    I don't stay out late
    Don't care to go
    I'm home about eight
    Just me and my radio
    Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

    Like Jack Horner
    In the corner
    Don't go nowhere
    What do I care?
Your kisses are worth waitin' for
    Believe me

    I don't stay out late
    Don't care to go
    I'm home about eight
    Just me and my radio
    Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you

@WarmNyota_SweetAyesha , how would you like something wistful and dreamy about memories of love? For you I've got "Stardust" (lots of instrumental in this one—lyrics start in at about 1:20):

Sometimes I wonder, how I spend
    The lonely nights
    Dreaming of a song
    The melody
    Haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
    When our love was new
    And each kiss an inspiration
    But that was long ago
And now my consolation is in the stardust of a song
Besides the garden wall, when stars are bright
    You are in my arms
    The nightingale
    Tells his fairytale
    Of paradise, where roses grew
    Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
    My stardust melody
    The memory of love's refrain.

And for you, @earlybird-obi-wan , #5, which is one of Armstrong's absolute classics: "What a Wonderful World."

    I see trees of green
    Red roses too
    I see them bloom
    For me and you
    And I think to myself
    What a wonderful world

    I see skies of blue
    And clouds of white
    The bright blessed day
    The dark sacred night
    And I think to myself
    What a wonderful world

    The colors of the rainbow
    So pretty in the sky
    Are also on the faces
    Of people going by
    I see friends shaking hands
    Saying, "How do you do?"
    They're really saying
    "I love you"

    I hear babies cry
    I watch them grow
    They'll learn much more
    Than I'll never know
    And I think to myself
    What a wonderful world
    Yes, I think to myself
    What a wonderful world

Have fun with these, you all! Can't wait to see what they will generate! :) Just one left now...

Could I have that last one if you don’t mind? I feel kind of bad for asking because it’s probably useless as far as the muse goes but I can never resist music. If you’d rather save it to give someone else a chance that’s totally fine! Thanks so much. :)

By all means, it's yours! #3 is the eminently snarky "I'll Be Glad When You're Dead, You Rascal You."

I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you
I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you
I brought you into my home, you wouldn't leave my wife alone
I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you.

Oh, I'll be glad when you die, you rascal you,
I'll be tickled to death when you leave this earth, you dog
I took you for my friend, the way you bit me in the back was a sin
You ain't no good, you rascal you!

Oh, I'll be glad when you die, you rascal you,
I will be glad when you die, you rascal you,
When you're layin' down six feet deep, no more fried chicken will you eat
Oh, you dog, you rascal you!

As I said before, I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you
I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you
I'll be standin' on the corner high, when they bring your body by
    Oh you dog, you rascal!

I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you
I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you
Boy, what is it that you got that makes my wife think you're hot?
Oh ho, you dog, oh, you dog!

@Findswoman - That was such a fun idea for a challenge, and I can't wait to see what comes from all of that excellent inspiration. [face_love] [face_dancing] =D=

With that said, I updated the main challenge index on the first page. Does anyone else now have an idea for a mini-challenge? Step right on up, don't be shy! [face_batting] :D
