All right, @Mira_Jade you got me, I'll take #5 for the Tudor Roulette. [face_batting]

I have a question about the virtues/vices - do we roll a random number for both the virtues and the vices (for a total of two numbers from that list), or should we only pick one number at random?

And finally, for the symbols of Tudor rule, should we pick that number ourselves or roll a random number?

@ViariSkywalker - Excellent questions! You can do either or for the virtues/vices! Pick either a virtue or a vice, or you can pick one of each, but both with using random numbers. Then, for the symbols, you can either pick or roll a random number, I realize that I left that a bit too ambiguous! :p

    And your quote is:

    5. “No crooked leg, no bleared eye,
No part deformed out of kind,
Nor yet so ugly half can be
As is the inward suspicious mind.”

-- a verse by Elizabeth I, written on her French Psalter

    [face_mischief] [face_thinking]

@devilinthedetails - oooh, can I have #3 for your Edgar Allen Poe Poetry Challenge? :D

And you, in return, may have . . .

    3. “For we never come to the kingdom of Heaven but by troubles.” -- Catherine of Aragon in a letter to her daughter, Mary I
    [face_love] [:D]

    Hmm hmm hmm... [face_mischief] [face_whistling]

In that case, I rolled 2 and 10, which gives me the virtue of Perseverance and the vice of Strangeness. I think random.org is on to me. o_O And if I may, I'll take #5 The Pearl, as my Tudor symbol. [face_batting]

[face_laugh] [face_whistling] Really though, I think this list is veeeeery slanted towards your interests, seeing as how so many of the elements could be very relevant in more ways than one. [face_mischief] [face_thinking]

I am super excited to see what you make of these prompts now, that said. [face_batting] [face_dancing] [:D]

@Mira_Jade Ooh, yay, I have always had a soft spot for Catherine of Aragon (and for how much she loved her daughter) so I could not be more thrilled to get a quote by her[face_love]

And I would be delighted to give you verse #3 for my Edgar Allan Poe Challenge. It is from a poem that ties different moments of life (playing in the winter snow, a wedding, crises, etc.) to the ringing of various bells in very evocative ways. In these verses in particular, we get a happy moment in the snow from Edgar Allan Poe:

“Hear the sledges with the bells–
    Silver bells!
What a world of merriment their melody foretells!
    How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,
In the icy air of night!
    While the stars that oversprinkle
All the heavens seem to twinkle
    With a crystalline delight
    Keeping time, time, time
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells
From the bells, bells, bells, bells.” –The Bells

OH, YES, THIS! *takes out a notepad and slams it down* I already know what I'm going to write, and it ties just perfectly into an errant story that I've been meaning to tell for the latest Angstmongers Anonymous Challenge, too. [face_thinking] [face_devil]

Yay! Catherine of Aragon really was an absolute Queen in every sense of the word. What an amazing woman! And I bet you're going to do that quote justice. [face_mischief] [face_love]

@Mira_Jade ... where do you GET these from? =D= I got Kindness for the virtue and Pelican for the Tudor Symbol. I'd like you to handpick a quote that you think is the oomphiest in a way that touches character growth or nummy ummy relationship milestones. [face_batting]

    lolol! I is nerd, what can I say? :-B [face_batting] :*

Oooh, let me see. Believe it or not, the most romantic quote on the list I chose because it's somewhat ironic (though in 1522, that early in his marriage to Catherine and honestly in love, he meant it, is the tragic thing =((), but it is absolutely beautiful when you just look at the words. Here you go with . . .

    4. “As the holly groweth green
    And never changeth hue,
So I am, ever hath been,
    Unto my lady true.”

-- from “Green Groweth the Holly”, a song by Henry VIII, for Catherine of Aragon

@Mira_Jade So glad you love your verse and that it fits so well with a story idea that you have already! Most excellent:D

Yes, there is no better way to describe Catherine of Aragon better than absolute queen, and I totally bow before Her Majesty^:)^

I hope I can do her powerful quote justice, though I do have an idea or two starting to bounce around in my head, so we will see what my muse comes up with[face_idea]

I love the Tudor era! It's such a fascinating period of history with so many strong, amazing women. True queens, all. [face_love]

Words cannot express how tempting this is. I'll be good and save the prompts for someone who can actually use them, though. :p

Anyway, I'm very excited to see the Mini Games back with such awesome challenges already! I can't wait to read the responses. [face_love]

    Welcome, foolish mortals to
[face_devil] The Disney Villain Song Challenge! [face_devil]

Disney princes and princesses may get the happy endings, but everyone knows that the villains get the best songs! Therefore, I present you with this diabolical task: pick a number and receive one of five fiendishly fabulous tunes sung by the most sinister songsters in cinema and write a story inspired by it.
    Which will you choose?
    Index of Infamous Entrants:
    1. @Findswoman , “Trust in Me” from The Jungle Book
    2.
    3. @gizkaspice , "Be Prepared" from The Lion King
    4. @Kahara , "Friends on the Other Side" from The Princess and the Frog
    5. @earlybird-obi-wan , "Mother Knows Best" from Tangled; Mother Knows Best

    Ad hoc entries:
    1. @devilinthedetails -"My Lullaby", Lion King 2: Simba's Pride

    Good luck! MWUHUHAHAHAHA….[face_devil]

@Raissa Baiard To clarify, can we choose any song by a Disney villain?

Because if so, I would choose to write a story inspired by My Lullaby from Lion King 2. [face_devil]

This sounds interesting. How about Cassandra's part in Nothing Left to Lose? It's from the third season of Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (a.k.a. Tangled: The Series) after Cassandra goes dark shortly after learning that she's the biological daughter of Mother Gothel (who was not a good mother to either Rapunzel or Cassandra, but that's besides the point). Here's Cassandra's part:

Cassandra: The path I’m on is a path paved in black
I’m taking that road and I’m not looking back
    Each twist and each turn
Leads straight where I’m yearning to go

Yes, it’s true, my path is dark
But I see where it ends
My rivals will fall as my power ascends
    Despise me, that’s fine
    I’m taking what’s mine
    Even so
    Not like you

    You lost your nerve
    You lost the game
    But you and I,
    We’re not the same
    I’m not lost
This fate was mine to choose

So I chose to lose my doubts
    And lose my chains
    Lose each weakness that remains
Now that I have nothing left to lose
    Nothing left to lose

It was a duet with Varian, who also went dark but was redeemed at this part and was trying to warn Cassandra of not going down the same path (didn't work, but like Varian, was also redeemed, but not before she learned that her "friend" had been manipulating her when she took a piece of a magic mirror out so that Cassandra would never learn the truth about the fact that her own mother never loved her).

I have a question and maybe this was answered somewhere but I don't feel like going through 27 pages---are these challenges allowed to be combined with an already existing story or does it need to be its own thing?

Here, have another song challenge. o_O

    The STARSET Roulette

Okay, so the band is STARSET (I don’t actually know if it’s supposed to be all caps, I’ve seen it both ways), and the music is rock, but kinda like if you smashed Breaking Benjamin and Muse and Hans Zimmer together or something. I don’t know, guys, they’re like the perfect combo of all my musical interests. Also, they have a sci-fi backstory for their band that they weave through all of their albums, so that’s pretty cool.

Pick a number, and I’ll give you a song to inspire your next fic. And did I mention these songs are on my more chaotic playlists? Yeah, there might be some angst ahead… [face_mischief]

Participants / Songs / Fic Index

    1. RX_Sith / "This Endless Endeavor"

    2. earlybird-obi-wan / "Back To The Earth" / Revenge of the syndicate

    3. Mira_Jade / "Perfect Machine"

    4. Kahara / "Let It Die"

    5.
Gabri_Jade / "Everglow" / The Walls We Hide Behind

    6. ViariSkywalker / "Unbecoming" (bonus prompt courtesy of @Mira_Jade)

I am not, repeat NOT, adding more prompts to my list until I clear out at least some of the humungous pile of prompts I already have; however, you can expect me to raid this thread as soon as WIP month is over (and that can't come soon enough!)

Meanwhile, I give you: The Greek Island Roulette

Yes, it's still summertime, and yes, Greece is famous for its islands, especially the pretty ones with white-and-blue houses and windmills, but did you know that there are several thousands of islands in this country, many of which are little more than a rock in the sea? I'm offering here five of the lesser-known islands with elements of their history and geography, for you to write a story inspired by this environment. So cast away and come sail in the Mediterranean!

    Index of Intrepid Seafarers:
    1. earlybird-obi-wan: Psara – Rocks
    2. Kit': Ioannina Island – Word Smith
    3. Mira_Jade: Spinalonga
    4. DarthIshtar: Makronisos

Just quickly answering your question: yes, combining these challenges with others is totally OK! The OP says “You may combine challenges if that is what strikes your muse’s fancy, just make sure you quote all applicable challenges,” so there you have it. :)

Also a quick bit of clarification for @devilinthedetails and @Force of Light concerning @Raissa Baiard ’s Disney Villain Songs challenge: I believe it is meant to be a roulette like most of the others, where she’s come up with a list of such songs and you choose a number to get a song from the list as a prompt. But she can confirm either way. :)

@earlybird-obi-wan Excellent to have another sign-up for the Edgar Allan Poe Challenge[face_dancing]

Your prompt is this rather fantastical bit of verse that really establishes a feeling of quest and exploration:

    “‘Over the Mountains
    Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
    Ride, boldly ride,’
    The shade replied.”--
    Eldorado

@Findswoman Ah, yes, that makes sense about it being a roulette challenge:oops: Thank you!

@Raissa Baiard Excuse my thick-headedness![face_blush] I will take prompt #4 if it is a roulette challenge!

    You got it! :D

Erm, this is the more humorous prompt on the list, which I trust you will use with great aplomb:

    1. “A pig, an ass, a dunghill, the spawn of an adder, a basilisk, a lying buffoon, a mad fool with a frothy mouth.” -- Martin Luther, on the subject of King Henry VIII

Now, there is only ONE quote left in the Tudor Roulette . . . and it's actually one of my favorites. [face_mischief]

    #3, PLEASE AND THANK YOU! [face_batting] :*

    &
[face_laugh] [:D] I am shocked! Completely shocked, I say! But, see, good things do happen when you dive into challenges! [face_mischief] [face_batting] :*

No, no - dive in now and then horde the prompts like a happy dragon! [face_batting] (Or be sensible about the thing, I suppose there's wisdom in that too. :p [:D])

I, however, would absolutely love to add #3 to my collection of sparkly prompts. You know I'm a sucker for scenery - an the Greek Islands in particular! [face_batting] [face_love]

D’oh… yes, it was meant to be a roulette challenge. I guess that’s what happens when you try to post a challenge right before bed :p However, I’d love to see both these stories @devilinthedetails and @Force of Light —I can include them as ad hoc entries on the index and offer the original five songs to anyone else who may want them.
