Mod Squad Update for the week ending July 7, 2002



Moderator Vacations

As is likely to be the case all summer, mods continued to announce the days they will be unavailable for moderating their particular forums.

• Lord Bane announced that he'd be stepping down in mid-August for the rest of the calendar yearwhen he starts his final year of college. He further stated that he will have one final über-message before "retiring" his moniker.



• The Gatherer, Gandolf the Grey, and Mar17swgirl are both back from their week-long vacations.



• farraday announced that he was resigning for personal reasons and requested that he not be given VIP status. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank him for all the time and hard work he has put into improving Community and the JC as a whole.



• Vertical announced that he wouldn't be online as much since he's getting married July 13th, going on a week-long honeymoon, moving into his new house, and switching back to a dial-up modem. He has our heartiest congratulations for his upcoming wedding and our deepest sympathy for his return to the evils of dial-up modems. cbjedi and NathanDahlin requested that he post wedding pictures. Hama-Ryu Kinnebi told him to "Forget the wedding pictures... post some bachelor party pictures!"

Old Folk's Home

Hama-Ryu Kinnebi invited any JC mods who were interested into the Old Folk's Home (formerly FanForce staff) forum to improve communication between Jedi Council and FanForce mods as well as to give the Jedi Council mods a glimpse into the inner workings of FanForce.



Welcome New Users

Kadue announced that he'd changed the name of the "Welcome Jedi Younglings" forum back to "Welcome New Users" by popular request. A couple of mods noted that they found "Jedi Younglings" to be funnier. Other mods said they felt the term was a bit undignified. We decided it was best to leave the choice to the people who actually visit the forum. Mace Windy noted that the pull-down menus needed to be updated to reflect the change back and it was accordingly fixed.



Mod Category List

Mar17swgirl put together a list of all the forum categories as well as the moderators, managers, and administrators who moderate each one. She got the mods to double-check our listings, and should be publically posting the listing soon.



Forum Search Option

Although it would be very difficult for zerosleep to code a search fuction into the forums, MaxVeers pointed us to this advanced search from alltheweb.com, which is currently in the Games and FanFilms forum headers. It can't find threads from the last few months, but it's still a very handy feature that can be used to search for old threads in other parts of the JC. The feature is being added to all of the major forums soon, if it hasn't been done by now.



Polls In the Movie Forums

Bowing to popular demand, we have removed the poll function from the rest of the movie forums.



Minimum User Age

Rox started a thread asking what we should do about a 10-year-old member. It seems that we are required to have parents fill out a consent form for users under the age of 13. Before we could do this, however, a background check was run on the user in question and it was concluded that he was the sock of a banned troll, rendering the point moot.



Accidental Bannings

cbjedi started a thread asking Talon Squad Leader why he banned a couple of users for comments in a "Welcome New Users" thread. Upon further inspection, Talon Squad Leader concluded that he was indee

The fiance has actually never been here, so it's no one anyone here would be familiar with, to my knowledge, but we've been together for about 3 years now.

Seriously though, congrats to Vertical. And a good update, although somewhat lacking in the DRAMA! department. :\

 

Vert's wedding is going to be a very special one. One that involves time travel.

And just how does one travel back in time? Is this a previously unknown mod power?

Well we can say BAN is leaving cause of banning internet drama for no good reason... but his story sounds legit.

Good Update. Very informative. Congratulations Vert on getting married.

And As for the lack of Drama just give it a few hours and Internet Drama will show up confomerin the presence of Drama. I give it until 9:00 PM.

 

All the updates lack drama. They just turn into drama after about 50 replies.
