Um...you're saying all VIP's are going to have red names now? Cause there is a VIP in JCC that has a white on blue name. I thought he was a new mod, but he's not, just a VIP. His name is dp4m.

If you read his title he won the FanForce Trivial Pursuit game, there are two others with the same colors. These are the colors I have picked for the winners of the game to use, and can't change them to anything else.

"Boy, this was a waste of my 4,000th post"

Is there any such thing as a productive 4000th post?

    Amazing.

I'm glad Sapient and GrippZ are back. :)

I'd like to put my two cents in for the Games Forum issue. It really doesn't matter whether it's in the JCC or in the EU part of the boards. The topics in there are generally leaning a bit towards SW games, but there's enough non-SW material in there to put it in Community. I would think that a halfway-intelligent SW fan coming to the JC for the first time would not be coming here solely to discuss non-SW games (and looking in Community for the board), they would discuss SW games, which would logically be in the EU section. I'm thinking Games will get more traffic from newcomers if it's under EU. But it doesn't matter that much.

As for allowing some game discussion in YJCC, I'd have to disagree. I know there a couple of gaming threads in there right now (the Final Fantasy one is the only one I can recall at the moment), but generally, where would the distinction be made? It would be a mistake to allow only SW-discussion in the forum and allow all non-SW games be in Community. Would it be 50/50, or up to the moderator's discretion? Where would you draw the line? Frankly it doesn't make too much sense to me, unless you can make some sort of solid rule regarding what games are allowed in Community so people aren't confused. And still, even then, I wouldn't like it... Games needs as much traffic as it can get.

I can, however, tell you what might help - changing the description of the Games Forum. It's been that way for as long as I can remember (it's pretty stupid, too ;)), and it says nothing about non-SW games being discussed in there. That might help the situation out a bit.

How about "Games - About as useful as a hard kick to the crotch, but a lot more fun!"? [face_mischief]

I know I'm a little late with this, but welcome back, DS and GriffZ. The boards are in better shape when you guys are sportin' the colors.

Oh and the sticky threads are a great idea! I hope they....stick around....

Dan, read the games-related portion of the update again. It explicitly says that if these changes go through, nothing about the Games forum will be changed except for which category it will be in. The proposal is to allow certain game threads in YJCC, threads that have across-the-board appeal, like the popular Final Fantasy thread.

How do you know they have across the board appeal unless they've already been across the board?

Do you just sorta guess and say 'yeah this looks like it might be popular'?

Or maybe bring a focus group into Games and ask them "which of these threads would you like to take home to your forum?"?

    Maybe I'm missing something?

Because they have been across the board, back when such threads were allowed in YJCC. It wasn't that long ago, so I don't know why it seems like I'm the only one who remembers.

Yes, I realize that. I may have gotten a bit carried away in that post. ;)

My point is that Games needs all of the traffic it can get.

And those threads that will be allowed in YJCC that have broad appeal will of course have to be up to the moderators' discretion. What if you think the Warcraft series doesn't have a ton of across the board appeal? Well, I do, and so do several others. I'm personally not a huge fan of the FF series, either. The fact of the matter is that if such a policy was implemented, it would not be solid enough and would generate a lot of controversy due to the amount of grey-area threads that could be posted.

Additionally, in YJCC, you get a lot of "Yeah this game is cool I like it I played it I think it's fun I also like that dude's huge sword," type of posting. The Games Forum allows for more serious (cough), in-depth (cough, cough) discussion of a particular game. Usually, anyway. ;)

No, the safe bet is to keep everything in Games, so you don't have the whole biased moderator opinions/grey area problems that will surely arise.

EDIT. Oh "at the time"... meaning one of the other Games Forum guys.
