Challenge Monday Mush Mania | Challenge #14: The Most Sensational, Inspirational, Muppetational Quote Roulette

Hello and happy Mushy Monday! I apologize for letting this lapse, but it’s been a challenging couple months. I caught a nasty case of con crud attending FanExpo in August which was quickly followed by a bout of Covid in September. Having a suppressed immune system is so much fun! Anyway…I’m back today with a new challenge, lucky number 13!

MMM Challenge #13: Holiday! Celebrate!
If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
Just one day out of life
It would be, it would be so nice!

Write a story in which your character(s) celebrate a holiday. It can be a major holiday (Life Day, Christmas, Empire Day, Halloween, etc.) or minor (Arbor Day, Intergalactic Tooka Day, Talk Like a Pirate Day), established or fanon.

As always:

• Stories should be mush, or include a healthy dose of mush.
• They must keep within the TOS.
• Story prompts may be combined with other challenges. Chapters within longer works are also allowed.
• Mush is not required to be romantic in nature.

Entries will be due in 8 weeks on Monday, November 25, 2024.

MMM Challenge #14: The Most Sensational, Inspirational, Muppetational Quote Roulette!

So recently I've been in the mood for some good, old-fashioned nostalgic comfort viewing, and I've been rewatching a lot of the old Muppet movies and shows. It's been like snuggling up in a favorite blanket with a mug of hot cocoa. The Muppets may be best known for slapstick humor featuring tap-dancing frogs, diva pigs, and banana-beaked...whatevers, but they have quite a few heartfelt moments sprinkled in among all the silliness. Which leads us to this very inspirational, Muppetational challenge.

The rules are easier than being green:

• I've chosen a dozen quotes and lyrics from among the three main Muppet properties: the Muppets (in this case, mostly their movies), Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock.
• Pick a number from 1-12, get a Muppet quote.
• Write some mush inspired by it! You do not have to use the actual quote in your story, but you may if you wish.

As always:

• Stories should be mush, or include a healthy dose of mush.
• They must keep within the TOS.
• Story prompts may be combined with other challenges. Chapters within longer works are also allowed.
• Mush is not required to be romantic in nature.

Jim Henson could be a bit of a philosopher at times, and I think that Cantus is the character who best exemplifies this part of him. Cantus is the leader of a band of traveling musicians, and he shows up in Fraggle Rock periodically to impart wisdom to the Fraggles in a rather cryptic fashion--think Gandalf by way of Bob Dylan

 

And #7 is

“Don’t worry if it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear. Just sing— sing a song.” from “Sing”, which was featured on Sesame Street and sung by various Muppets over the years, including Big Bird and Elmo.

The scene in which Kermit sing this song, while sitting on a log in the swamp, is pure Muppet magic. Jim Henson was actually performing Kermit from inside a bathysphere submerged underwater, with only his puppeteering hand above water.

 

SQUEEAGE! The only song I adore more than this is Bein' Green. LOL

Kermit says this about Gonzo, who has been abducted by government scientists who believe Gonzo is an alien.

This quote is from the song "Follow Me", from the first scene of the first episode of the series, and it sets the tone of wonder and optimism that characterizes the show. The song is reprised several times throughout the series, by Matt and his nephew Gobo.

 

@Monday_Mush_Mania Sincere apologies if I'm gate-crashing here, but do you mind if I ask a question, with a view to hopefully being able to take part, please? I'm curious as to whether there's a word count on this challenge, or is it really as simple as "write a mushy story using the prompt I assign you"...?

 

It really is that simple! Make it as short or as long as you like
