Oh, absolutely. Getting everything working is the top priority. Just knowing they'll be looked at after the move is good enough. :)

Strikethrough text is obnoxious to read... please don't add that.

Only if it's used all the time for everything. The way I see it is that it's like writing something by hand and crossing something out to correct what has been written. For example, writing 'Strikethrough text is amazing' with a strikethrough on amazing and adding 'obnoxious' after it. If you read the thread I started on this a while ago this was demonstrated perfectly.

The trouble with that is you're relying on users to not use it a lot and you just know - because most people revel in being annoying - they will. IMO, best not to allow the option.

Well, some people think that certain color texts that people write their messages in are annoying (not me personally). It really is a matter of opinion, not a matter of whether we should have it or not. Yeah, I think it is annoying too, but it has uses. We can always tell the user in a nice way that it is annoying. But still it is an opinion, not anything of real significance regarding the function of the boards.

Just my 2 cents. Take it or leave it. [face_peace]

We could potentially look at having it as an option for a while, and if people are abusing it, then take it away. A trial run, essentially.

Again, not saying we will do that, but it's something we could look at later.

Not a bad idea. People tend not to abuse something that is a privilege. Well, that is not always true but letting them know it is a privilege would help.

We have colours for decorating text - there is at least cause for it. Strikethrough serves no purpose. You can always delete what you don't want to stay in your post.

Good point Everton. I never had a use for strikeout personally, but if you had a list or something, and wanted to update people on, for instance, things done on the list, it would work well. But other than things like that, using it is not too necessary. I am not saying it should not be available though. It is not as big an issue as the icons. I can understand people wanting non-SW icons all year round but the impracticality of that is enormous compared to the strikeout issue. At least to an icon maker I suppose. [face_whistling]

Only if it doesn't play by default. Otherwise it breaks the rules of web design etiquette.

Wait, so are the boards really moving? Was that the April Fool's joke, or was people falsly "seeing through" the "joke" the real joke?

    My head hurts.

Yes, we're really moving. Anything we announced on April 1 was going to be taken as a joke so we went for something true.

We're moving from IGN to vB - basically, we're changing the system the boards use. However, the address will still be boards.theforce.net. You should still be able to see old posts - we're hoping that everything transfers over, and we're in the process of backing everything up in case it doesn't.

Yep :) And if you haven't already, I'd advise reading through the Moving FAQ - it's really helpful and should reassure you that everything'll be okay :)

In my experience, strike-out text is used for snarky joke asides rather than editing.

In the last decade, the JC has done pretty well in the snarky asides department without the ability to use strikethrough.
