Summary: A hopeful Jedi Initiate anticipates a life of adventure and service, yet it isn't quite what he dreams of.

Entry 1

My name is Kalin Salandrom and I?m going to be thirteen in a couple weeks! That means that I can get a master! Well . . . I have to actually. If I don?t get chosen I?ll be stuck being a farmer for the AgriCorps. I know the Jedi always say ?that being a Jedi doesn?t always mean going on missions, we need farmers and healers, too,? so don?t tell me that, because I know I?m not meant to be a farmer. I can feel it. Now don?t try to pull a Yoda on me and tell me ?Always changing the future is.? It isn?t going to change this time. Guaranteed.

I guess that?s why I started this journal, to ensure that I live the life of a true Jedi, not some dumb old farmer. That?s why I named it ?My Life of Adventure? so everyone will know that I was right.

Anyways, I picked today to start it, because tomorrow?s the big tournament. Five masters are currently in search for an apprentice and the Masters decided to have all eligible initiates fight in the tournament. It?s to show off our abilities for Knights to decide if we would make a good pair or not.

They say that you can learn a lot about a person by the way they fight. I?m not quite sure if I believe you can learn a lot, but I do know you can at least tell if he?s good or bad, like Quan is always trying to stab you and he always swings like he wants to chop off each one of your arms and legs one by one. He?s really mean, and he always tries to get me into trouble. He won?t stop making fun of me, but that won?t matter when he?s sent to AgriCorps and I?m not. Anyways, on the other side a person I know about through battle is Tina. She acts like she?s afraid she?ll hurt someone. She won?t make a good Jedi, she?ll become a healer. I guess that?s good though, because I?d rather her heal me than have Quan. He?d probably forget the stitches.

My best friend, Andi, was picked by Master Faston a few days ago. She says that since she is no longer able to compete, I?ll win the tournament for sure. Don?t tell her this, but I would have won, whether she was in it or not.

I guess I should describe myself so you know who you?re talking to. I?m a boy and I have dark brown hair (Andi says it looks kind of scraggly, because I wear it longer than we?re supposed to) and green eyes. I?m a little tall for my age and my feet are larger than they should be. The masters say that I?ll be really tall because of it. Oh, and I wear the standard brown initiate robes.

Well, I guess I?d better get to bed before the masters come and yell.

Lol, oh dear...I don't think I'd want him as a healer either.

He sounds a little proud though...I have a feeling that things won't quite turn out the way he thinks they will.

Entry 2

Guess what?!?

I won the tournament today!!! I was so happy when I beat Quan, but he got mad and gave me a black eye. Andi says it makes me look tougher, more ready for a master.

I hope she?s right, because no one picked me today. I had several masters come up and talk to me about how well I did and ask me some questions, but no one picked me. Tina was picked by one of the Master Healers, which made me a little happier, but Quan was picked too. I overhead his new master saying ?I think he can be changed.? I didn?t catch the guy?s name, but I think he?s crazy. How can anyone change Quan?

I was feeling all right about not getting a master today, I figured they needed time for meditation or some such thing, but then Quan came and asked if I was picked! When he found out I hadn?t been, he started gloating about how at least his master was smart enough to know that he was better than me and that me winning was just a bit of luck. I called him a Sithspawn and an arrogant bantha herder before he had to leave.

I wish I could have called him worse, but I would have never gotten a master if I had. If he tells on me, I?ll get in enough trouble for ?Sithspawn.? What?s so bad about talking about a bunch of dead guys? I mean, Master Kenobi killed the last one right? I think so. If not it?ll be my turn to kill the next.

Well anyways, after all the mean stuff Quan said, I went to my room and hid. I didn?t cry, I?m too old for that. I just, you know looked through some old stuff and avoided seeing anyone. I wouldn?t let anyone come in, not even the masters. Andi finally walked uninvited, and made me feel better. She talked about how great I did at the tournament, and how that would ensure that I got a master.

I hope she's right, because I don't want to be a stupid old farmer.
