    Minority Report

Very good movie. Thought provoking meditation on destiny and free will. Cruise was very good and Farrell turned in his only non annoying performance here.

    Vampire Hunter D & Bloodlust

    Haven't seen

    Starship Troopers

    Haven't seen

    Battle Royale

Haven't seen, looks really good though

    Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky

Deserves props for pure balls to the walls chutzpah, I guess, but not my cup of tea.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Interesting movie with a great lead performance. Template setting and icon making with what may just be Williams' finest score, but a bit draggy.

    Conan the Barbarian

A long, long time ago. Remember nothing about it.

    Mortal Kombat

I liked this one in spite of myself. It had some terrifically stupid moments but Christopher Lambert almost singlehandedly made the film worth watching and Johnny Cage was fun too, particularly his duel with Scorpion.

    Highlander

Unutterably bizarre movie. I think the series really succeeds better than the film, though the film has moments, again, mostly courtesy of Lambert, who is just bizarre enough to be effective. Love him or hate him, you'll never ignore Lambert.

I'll talk about the others later. :)

Well to be fair about your list...there are films on that list which shouldn't be on it (Starship Troopers) as well as films that are either too high (Revenge of the Sith, Wizard of Oz) or too low. Furthermore you can't put the Trek franchise as one, Wrath of Khan is cleary better then Generations. Of course this is all my opinion, anyway unlike Rogue1-and-a-half I don't have a list fetish ( :p ) I'll be commmenting when I feel like it.

As TheBoogieMan said when I posted my recollections thread in JCC, "I should have known your fifth anniversary thread would be long winded and in list format. Anything else just would not have done." :p

    Wizards

Afraid I have not even heard of this one. Research shows it's a Ralph Bakshi rotoscoping effort.

    E.T.

I'd say this should be in the top ten. It's one of the greatest films about friendship, love, loss, grief . . . it's a masterpiece that really defies description. A bittersweet elegy for innocence and youth. Magical, transporting, never less than utterly enthralling.

    The Flight of Dragons

Another one I hadn't heard of . . . Bass and Rankin are rather hit and miss, in my opinion and the inclusion of John Ritter sets off my 'bizarre' bells.

    The Hobbit

Now, here's a hit for these guys. I was pleasantly surprised by this mature little film. It has the nerve to actually let some characters die at the end and the animation is passable at worst. Quite clever and a nice entre vous into the book for people unfamiliar with the work.

Star Trek 2 and 4, Generations and First Contact

    I have never seen a Star Trek movie . . .

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1957)

Darn right. This is a nightmarish and atmospheric classic that has lost none of its punch today. The incredible climax is a masterpiece. Tense, taut, suspenseful.

    The Blob (1958/1988)

    Seen neither of these.

    Jason and the Argonauts

I always get this confused with Clash of the Titans, which I have seen. But this one I have not.

    The Abyss

An essential choice, even if it's substantially less interesting than you'd think it would be. A modern icon that may not fully deserve all the press it gets.

    Escape from New York

Found this one to be a little overrated too, but the premise is a brilliant one and the cast is very good. It suffers somewhat from some stagy action, but it was entertaining enough and the 'thought you were dead' running gag had me in stitches. And the ending roots this one firmly in its time period with a great big 'up yours' to The Man, which is as satisfying as it is predictable. Slightly overrated, but fun.

Sorry about that on number 3, it's kind of mispelled! it's actually called "The Dark Crystal". I thought "Sith" was the best of the prequels and even better, just as good as the classic trilogy! why i have 'Wizard of Oz" high on my list, cause in my opinion it's the ultimate fantasy movie.

What's wrong with putting Starship Troopers on my list? i adored it since i was was in junoir high and i am a big Total Recall fan so "Starship Troopers" makes it on my list from the director of that movie.

Any movies on my list anyones faves?

    The Road Warrior

It might not be totally cool to say its better than the original, but it is more entertaining. Hyped up action and the final chase scene is brilliant. This is modern myth, icon making.

    Mad Max

A classic, bracing, shocking, horrifying, but never less than enthralling.

    The Running Man

    Haven't seen this one yet.

    Dark City

Haven't seen this one yet, either.

    Spirited Away

    Haven't seen.

    Princess Mononoke

    Haven't seen.

    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

A classic, brilliantly acted, brilliant fight sequences. A masterpiece.

    Fist of the North Star

    Haven't seen.

    Stargate

    Haven't seen.

    Independence Day

Entertaining enough, but falls short of any kind of greatness. David Arnold's brilliant score is the best thing here and the soundtrack is an essential, something the film proper isn't.

    Jurassic Park

Again, probably a little underrated on this list. A masterpiece for sure, mindblowing and awe inspiring.

    Starchaser: Legend of Orin

    Haven't seen.

    War of the Worlds (1953/2005)

    Haven't seen.

    King Kong (1933/2005)

I've seen the original and you're darn right. It's a brilliant film, pure energy, pure visceral thrills, pure non stop action that, to be frank, hasn't dated a bit. Still just as amazing now as it was then.

    Time Bandits

    Haven't seen.

    Brazil

    Haven't seen.

    Lifeforce

    Haven't seen.

    Predator

Great action flick. The entire cast is on top of their game and the final show down is mind blowing.

    The Crow

Slightly overrated by most, I think. Farely typical revenge flick elevated by the star's tragic death.

    Men in Black

Witty and clever. D'Onofrio steals the show.

Highlander has the best line of dialogue ever, in reply to, 'you a ***, Nash?"

"Why, you cruising for a piece of ass?"

Written down, it's blah, but Lambert's delivery is awesome-tastic.

Oooh, i forgot to mention four other faves of mine:

    "Back to the Future".
    " Scanners".
    " Videodrome".
    " The Fly ( 1986)".

So now that makes it 73.

Your list of favs is arguable at best. As someone said before, some movies are way too high, while others are way too low...and others aren't there when they should be. I think it ultimately comes down to individual opinion. What you can do is get everyone to take your list and rank each movie out of 10. If they want to add more movies, they could do that too. Then you could calculate the average and see which movies are the best to most people and in what order. Just a thought...

Oh and...69??? What's up with that homie?

    Batman

Agreed, loads of fun. Nicholson is brilliant and Burton's humor shines through.

    Batman Begins

Also agreed. Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson . . . talk about a brilliant cast. Great climax and I loved Murphy particularly.

    X-Men 1 and 2

Saw the first one, found it incredibly enjoyable. Lots of wit, lots of fun.

    Big Trouble in Little China

    Never seen it.

    Rock and Rule

    Never seen it.

    Fire and Ice

    Never seen it.

    Heavy Metal

    Never seen it.

    Serenity

    Never seen it.

    Excalibur

    Never seen it.

    Spaceballs

Maybe a little overrated here. No, definitely a little overrated. But fun, one of Brooks' last gasps of real genius.

Woah you should rent more movies :p Mind you I only saw Big Trouble in Little China, which is classic cheesy movie. Should be a bit lower though.
I do think BB could have been much higher if it had a more memorable score, as you said it has a great cast :)

    The Princess Bride

Great, great film, with an irrepresably good spirit of joy and innocence. Love it and Elwes and Patinken are both probably at career best levels here.

    Army of Darkness

Ashamed to say I've never seen it.

    Transformers The Movie

Proud to say I've never seen it. :p

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Uh, seventeen? I'd put this in the top three at the very, very least. Epic storytelling, emotional and resonant character arcs, mindblowing special effects, a powerful allegory of good and evil, innocence and corruption, stunning action sequences . . . I have a hard time with this barely cracking the top twenty.

    Harry Potter Movies

Ambivalent to say I haven't seen them yet. :p

    Secret of the NIMH

Very cool little forgotten movie. Deserves a better rep.

    The Last Unicorn

    Haven't seen it

    The Thing

Loved the original, haven't gotten around to seeing this one yet.

    Terminator 1 and 2

Darn straight. The first is a gritty and thrilling action film, complete with brilliant performances from the main trio with meditations on fate and destiny. The sequel is an eye popping action blockbuster with meditations on what it means to be human.

    Alien

It's all been said. A masterpiece of claustrophobia.
