Hey besties I got a good annual review today at work except I also cried in front of my boss during it so like how is your day.

 

Jeff Gerstmann from Giant Bomb went independent, thereby severing all ties I had left to a site I’ve been following since the early days of grad school, so I’m in a weird melancholic and nostalgic place, watching something bound up in my memories of this strange journey I’ve been on come to a close just as my postdoc draws to an end. Twinned finales. I keep going back to the ending of “The Inner Light” because it seems like one of the few moments I’ve seen in media that captures this raw but kind of beautiful feeling.



Also the contact at the security division hasn’t emailed me back!

Ah existential crises over nerdom. I just had one trying to spell nerdom.

 

I'm having an existential crisis over statistics, dude. The semester started yesterday, and I'm already a bit lost. This is a condensed 8 week online course, as well, which makes it extra whatever. I'm meeting with a tutor today at 6. I think if I work with a tutor throughout the next 8 weeks, I'll be okay. This is attempt two at this class.

 

Hopefully a tutor will help. I know you can do it.

 

Watch out for roving bands of Andy Robertsons or whatever it is you're supposed to watch out for there.

 

Well besties, I had an ultrasound of my kidneys for kidney stones. None found, that was fine... But they found a mass on my liver. More tests needed ASAP. I'm definitely worried.

Thanks. I took the day off, my boss was very supportive of a mental health day. No way I can focus until I at least get this MRI follow up scheduled.

 

Rae, I swear, you need your own medical saga thread.

Seriously, though, I hope the tests come back fine.

 

Yeah there's a chance this is a result of me having had hepatitis C. I was cured years ago but if I already had damage that could be related. Which again is one of my weird medical things because I did not put myself at risk for hep c in any way, I just got it probably from surgical contamination.

Really good homemade tzatziki. The owner of the place thought for a second I had asked her to hold the sauce (I meant the onion) and her eyes got really big and she said in a loud voice: “no tzatziki?!”

 

Do you pronounce gyro with a hard g or 'hero" like the Greeks do?

 

We walked through Girona today and found out the city is full of Game of Thrones filming locations.
