ST New Characters in Episode IX

As we know, each film in the saga introduces at least a couple of new characters into the mix. The Last Jedi dispensed with a few characters (Snoke, Phasma, Holdo), and we know that any appearances by Luke or Leia in Episode IX will be minimal at best or nonexistent, so this leaves a bit of room for at least a couple new faces.

What types of new characters would you like to see in Episode IX, and who would you want to play them?

 

The most obvious suspects are the Knights of Ren. I can't think of any other obvious ones, there could be a new bounty hunter like character or something to that affect.

 

The KoR was a little invention of JJ that Rian just didn't have a use for.

So, sure, bring them on.

But there is a whole new Rebellion Team to be introduced. Hopefully a new team with their own unique spaceships that combine into a Mega Giant Droid in a dramatic swirling sequence where the ships click together.

And then there is Jedi Squad.
Rey's band of cool teenage Jedis, with all their associated teen loves and highschool issues such as bullying and pop quizes

 

I think the KoR are likely. I'd love a round two of Rey and Kylo fighting side by side, and the KoR would be a good excuse for that.

After the loss of Snoke and TLJ's complete neutering of Hux as a credible villain, the FO needs someone with gravitas to go toe-to-toe with Kylo. Kylo by himself is a bit of an uneven fight with all the "heroic" characters.

Depending on the length of the time jump, I could see Rey with one quasi apprentice. Maybe just a friend's kid with whom she occasionally shares Jedi lessons. Not a major character with a big role, but something to indicate Rey's growth and the fact the Jedi will go on. And also a way for Rey to finally completely move beyond her parents by focusing on taking on a mentor role herself.

 

Knights of Ren hopefully.


But I'm interrested in all the casting rumors we're going to get between now and when production starts in June.

In fact, wouldn't JJ start auditions for new roles this month or next month???

 

I can't imagine we'd get too many new characters of any real importance. The KoR should be obvious gets, with maybe some new resistance leaders. That's it. There's a big enough lead cast as it is.

 

I agree with a big enough cast, that’s why I’m sort of worried about apprentices being shoehorned in here.

I really want to see more creatures/animatronics. It was lack luster in TFA and non existent besides the casino in TLJ. Give me a new or returning species to help aid the fight.

 

Knights of Ren. I guarantee at least one of them will be female

 

The cast is already so big I'm not expecting a lot of new characters. We'll probably see a handful of new Resistance fighters but they'll mostly be extras. Maybe they'll introduce one new Resistance leader who will have a few lines and then get killed off. Maybe D'acy will play a slightly more prominent role?

There might be a couple of little kid characters if they introduce a child abduction storyline.

Also I'm calling it now: Phasma comes back and in the most meta moment of the movie Finn is all, "Oh c'mon! You have got to be kidding me!"

 

I think they really shouldn't add any apart from the KoR as some of you have mentioned. Build and develop the main characters so people have ones they're invested in. Then again, there will be at least a couple thrown in from a merchandising standpoint.

Indeed, I'm hoping for a lot of Rey and Finn time. Ideally Rey, Finn, and Poe all together in various scenes would be the best outcome.

 

Hope they come up with something compelling and "emotionally satisfying".. I still feel there's room for Luke in this at pivotal points for Rey and even Kylo, but I'm not holding my breath.

As much as I like the new characters, I don't CARE for them nor am I invested in them after TLJ. Hopefully, JJ and Chris will come up with something.

Marketing and trailers are going to be have to quite strategic in getting fans back in.

 

Really hard to say without knowing the story. Definitely the KoR and maybe a new Jedi or two but that might be tricky with screen time.

I think we will see new Resitance characters (secondary) and possibly those lost Jedi from the training academy. We could also see a return of Snap Wexley, Jesika Pava and others.

 

Snap is likely, since this is JJ and he has GG in basically all his movies. Jess would hopefully return too; she wasn't in TLJ because of the actress' conflicting schedule, IIRC, which probably saved her character's life.

 

Bring in Han and Leia’s children from the EU.

 

I am pretty sure that Kylo will have a new apprentice or something like that and certainly Rey would have at least met a new force sensitive that wants to be trained or somehting like that. There will also probably be some new baddies.

 

The cast isn't that big at all. Luke, Leia, and Han are all now gone (or almost). Snoke and Holdo are dead, Phasma is maybe dead.

Hopefully they'll bring in a new FO commander a la Tarkin, one that Kylo takes seriously and isn't a punchline. Maybe the FO will hire a bounty hunter to go after the Resistance. And yeah, the Knights of Ren are a must.

And I'm also hoping for more aliens, hopefully a few traditional species. Has there been a single Twi'lek in the ST yet?
