[blockquote]A lot has happened in the ever-changing galaxy of droids and Del Rey Books has the guide to bring you up to speed on all things automaton. Here's an early look at next year's Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Droids. Written by Daniel Wallace, this 224-page entry in the Essential Guide series goes far beyond the first edition, adding essential prequel droids and new Expanded Universe mechanicals, as well as providing all new full color illustrations by digital artist Ian Fullwood.
Over 80 droids are spotlighted, including classics like Cybot Galactica's 3PO unit and Industrial Automaton's R2 unit; prequel mayhem-makers like droidekas, spider droids, and super battle droids; and useful utilitarian units like pit droids, window installers, and the BD-3000 luxury droids. Read about Colicoid Eradicators, HK-series assassin droids, IG Lancers, Yuuzhan Vong Hunter Killers, the mysterious Iron Knights and much more. This new guide organizes the droids by function, and provides a primer on droids in the galaxy for the layperson not familiar with these fascinating machines.

The New Essential Guide to Droids by Daniel Wallace with a cover by Steve Anderson, is due out in June of 2006.[/blockquote]

I just hope that the images aren't CGI like they were in the New Essential Guide to Weapons & Technology...

Well we get a new Essential Guide every year. Next month we're getting the New Essential Chronology so that'll help tide us over till June '06.

The first one was awesome (especially the R-series entries). I can't wait to see the YVH entry.

    YEah, the CG stuff sucked.

Im excited about the YVH and HK droids. Plus, you got all the new droids from the Prequels. I remember the last Essential Droids came out just in time to be out-dated by TPM.

According to the official site, it will feature "all new full color illustrations by digital artist Ian Fullwood," the same guy who illustrated New Weapons & Technology and New Vehicles and Vessels.

V&V was good, I hope he sticks with V&V style rather than doing it like W&T...

i hope we see some of the sofar negelected movie droids: at least 4 droid types from ROTS still have no names. Also, some of the droids from Republic, like the Super Assassin Droids.

He mentioned HK droids. Would that be the Hunter-Killer modified Probots from DE or the HK-47/HK-50 series from KOTOR?

I'd say that, to make them worth mentioning nowadays, it'd have to be referring to the KOTOR one.

Tasty also revealed this earlier today (before the Droids one was announced)...

New versions of Alien Species, Droids, and Planets and Moons have not yet been announced, though I can say that preliminary work is being done on at least two of them.

So, which do you think we'll get? Aliens or Planets? Both have been covered relatively recently over the last couple years by Sourcebooks, so neitehr has an edge there...

Dan Wallace said he had been working on a top secret project, which is the NEGtD, so maybe the prelim work is being done on planets and moons and alien species, and they are farther along with Droids.

They should make more of these source books.

I'd say a New Essential Guide to Alien Species book slight edge over an updated planets and moons guide, myself, but that's just me. Please, please, please...I want to see more of a write-up for most of the species of the podracers from Episode I than what we got from the Official SW Database. In addition, at least Rattakans, Gen'Dai, Kaleesh, Utai, Pau'ans, Mustafarians, and Polis Massans should be included....

Yeah, because Ultimate Alien Anthology only covered sentients, and because the Incredible Locations books cover planets somewhat. I think it'll be a NEGtAS.

Looks pretty good. I'll probably read it in the store, then decide whether to buy it or not.
