Aren't the Wachowski sisters onboard? I can't seem them just doing a retread.

Given their output over the last few years I'd bet that they'll be exploring gender and trans issues , probably allegorically too with humans and machines overlapping etc.

One of them - Lana I think - is writing and directing.

Either way, after one OK movie and two stinkers, I don't see why a fourth movie would be good, regardless of who's behind the camera.

As long as the bar is raised so high there is no bar, I will be happy.

I believe I read the original script for the Matrix had a male character become female in the Matrix (or vice versa) but it introduced too many potential plot twists if someone could become else when they jack in so they dropped it.

the very noted omission of Lawrence Fishburne from the casting makes me think that the new lead could be Morpheus reincarnated, as the Architect pointed out the Matrix has restored itself multiple times (which I actually love that scene because it's so dang dense, that's what a world controlling machine would be like). If Neo is Jesus than Morpheus would be John the Baptist who is destined to find him again and again, but maybe this time Neo has to find Nu-Morpheus' "soul" in a different body.

Or Fishburne wanted to much and passed. either, or.

I guess a trilogy has been rumored from the beginning, so here is the latest part of the rumor mill.

Again, this movie will be titled The Matrix Rebooted.

The franchise has effectively gift wrapped that title for itself.

I'm making a guess that they want Morpheus able to fight and Fishburne is simply not in that kind of condition anymore. I suppose cgi could fix that though if they wish to spend the cash.
I did not read it but I saw a quick headline about time travel? But I bet it's not actual time travel but time within the Matrix, a rest, or a visit to a past Matrix.

A French site is reporting Lambert Wilson will reprise his role as The Merovingian.

If they get Christoph Waltz on board as the new Mr. Smith, i'm game.

Hugo was very cool. but let his legacy rest with the trilogy.

Although Waltz would make a very good Architect...

Here's a bit of filming taking place (kinda) in San Francisco recently.

If that bike isn't an Arch I'll be very disappointed.

Further proof we are in a simulation. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony.

This is unlikely, but maybe there's hope that this will allow Hugo Weaving to have a small role in the film? With everyone rearranging scheduling now, he might be able to fit it in. Just like, a quick scene or two. (I'm actually >50% sure they were going to give him a small cameo regardless of the scheduling conflict he was worried about, but this wait might allow the filmmakers time to discuss it more behind the scenes and add something with more planning when filming's allowed again)

I actually watched The Matrix for the first time last week. It was really cool, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm now planning on watching The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions so I can learn to hate it.
