How did I get hooked on SW?: I remeber being little and my parents renting SW from the library...after that any time they ever rented a movie that had the 20th Century Fox open, I got excited.

How did you get started on SW: I've been a big fan of Star Wars for most of my life. How I got started, i can't say.

I know I'm about 2 hours from Charlotte but all the other NC cities here that are closer to me doesn't seem to be very active.

Hello Hello y'all! My name is Shane Jenkins and I'm new to the CFF.

    Name: Shane
    Age:28
    Location:Indian Trail
SW: I love the LEGO realm of SW, and I like collecting odd-pieces and sets. I really dig the Tuskens and Greedo. I also like the Expanded Universe novels.
Non-SW: My family, mountain biking, yardening/gardening.
My SW start: Well my dad is a fan from back in the day and I remember watching ANH when I was probably 7 or 8. I was hooked ever since then but I haven't fully grasped it all till just recently since I have a son of my own. Silas is only 6 months old but it gives me an excuse to "start him out an the right track",... yeah that's it, that's what I'll tell my wife..."It's for the boy!"

I got hooked on SW since the first time I saw it in 1977 when I lived in Pembroke Pines, Fla. I still remember how difficult it was for my dad to get tickets to see it because all the showings were sold out and it wasn?t playing at many theaters. It was insane!
I've always wanted to own a Stormtrooper costume since I first saw them on screen. They've always been my favorite character. 30 years later(man that's a long time) that dream came true when I purchased SDS armor.

Well like Gump said. That's all I have to say about that.

Awesome! Welcome Scott! We just happen to have a monthly book club where we read a different SW novel each month. We just finished reading the Han Solo Trilogy and the book for August, since it is the 30th Birthday this year, is Star Wars. I hope you decide to join us.

I also love Dark Horse's comics. Mostly I read SW Legacy, SW Dark Times and SW Rebellion. But I do also love other comics with my favorites being Spider Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men and the X-Men offshoots, like the Nightcrawler series, Wolverine series, stuff like that.

I also saw that you like Lord Of The Rings, I love those books and movies as well. Do you like either the Harry Potter books or movies? That's another franchise that I am into.

Well, it's great to have you in the area, we all might have to get together for lunch or something on of these days. And again, welcome.

Hi! I live in Northeast Charlotte. I'm interested in meeting you guys.

My name is Celestino. I'm a 31 year old male (6-13-1976).

I like some of the Star Wars EU books. Some of them stink (Dark Journey) for sure, but some of the best books I've ever read were Star Wars books. I like Zahn, Stover, and Denning most (except for those Killiks). I love the the good guys. Yoda, Luke, Obi-wan, Chewie, Lando, and others from the movies. And Corran Horn, Jag Fel, Wedge Antilles, Tenel Ka, and the late Mara Jade Skywalker from the books. I really liked Anakin Solo, too.

If there's a bad guy I really like, it's definitely Dooku. Other than the goofy name, the dude's by far the most charismatic of all the Sith. And it takes a real man to be able to take down Obi-Wan, Anakin, AND Gandalf before going home and reading your AARP newsletter.

I like a lot of other sci-fi/fantasy stuff, too. Lord of the Rings, Matrix, and X-men are some of my favourite movies. Also, I like stuff like Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart, Gladiator. You know, epics. I really love Edward Scissorhands, too. And Great Expectations. I guess I really like movies that have amazing music. I like a lot of symphonic stuff from movies. Other classical music too, and even some broadway stuff (Les Miserables, Phantom). I also like 80's stuff like the Cure and Neworder. And oldies music and doo-wop. I like to read a lot, too. Anyone read the MYST trilogy? It's spectacular.

I also like watching the NFL, NBA, and NHL. I root for teams from Detroit.

But, what I love more than these things is coffee and interesting conversation with interesting people. I like how thought-provoking the images in Star Wars and similar things can be. I mean, using light to inflict fatal wounds that don't bleed? That's some deep stuff. And the colors? Blue? Green? Red? They all mean something. Sometimes several things. It's pretty neat.

Growing up, I always really liked the movies. Especially Return of the Jedi. But, when the new trilogy came out, I really became a big fan. The Phantom Menace has probably the most potent and applicable symbolic teachings of any non-LOTR movie out there.

I got into the books when my van broke down near Waco, Texas. Yes, that Waco. There's far more than a smoldering commmune there, though. There's a actually a real city with a fairly large university there called Baylor (30,000 students, if I remember correctly). Of course, in Texas, that's not really that big:0) I was traveling from Michigan to South Texas when we broke down, and just by chance, I had a friend who used to go to Baylor. We called him up, but he had moved to San Diego. Still, he hooked us up with his old roommate, and we stayed there for a week waiting for my van to get fixed. I didn't really have anything to do, and the guy had Star by Star, by Troy Denning, so I read it. I eventually read most of the NJO series, and I've been reading them ever since.

Anyway, I guess I've written plenty. Writing's another hobby of mine. Which is where I got the name Vazhya. Cherzin Vazhya is my main protagonist.

Well, looking forward to meeting some of you.

    Celestino

And TK-2970 and I are hockey fans too . . . he roots for the Devils, I root for the Rangers. It makes for a long hockey season. ;)

Thanks! Glad to be here. No, not a huge Potter fan. I'm annoyed about the hype around "characters die in book 7!!!" and then it turned out to be relatively minor characters. We'll debate that in person, cuz we shouldn't get spoilerish here, and I bet you would disagree about them being *minor characters* ... lol! Anyway, I've seen the first three movies, but not GoF or OoP yet. I figure that gives me enough of the story.

Comics? Loooooooove Spider-Man! Grew up reading him and Dr. Strange :) ... never got into the X-Men at all, but did like Alpha Flight as I recall. A lot of the independent/non-Marvel/non-DC books can be very good.

I recently discovered Neil Gaiman. What a hoot he is. Heard of Audible.com? I subscribe there and just got Neil Gaiman reading four of his kid stories. Very entertaining. I haven't read anything serious of his yet - just the funny stuff.

Lookin' forward to meeting you all.

Oh yeah ... Go Gators, and Miami Dolphins. I'd pull for the Panthers if I was an NHL buff. Tried getting into the NBA, especially two years ago when the Heat took it all. Used to be a baseball fan, but the strike in '94 killed it for me. And Bonds breaking Aaron's record?? He was juiced !!!

    :)

    Hey, Jada and others!

Thanks for the welcome. I like Harry Potter, too, but just the movies so far. I picked up a book once and really didn't like it. I couldn't read Eragon either, but that movie was really magnificent, too. Probably something wrong with me. I didn't even finish Dune!

Potter is highly entertaining and the three main actors are fantastic, I especially love Ron. But, up until now, the stories have never quite had the gravitas (forgive the ugly, pompous word choice, but it really fits here) of some of the other great stories out there. But, with Order of the Phoenix, my interest has really been stirred. The first Potter movie I've bothered to see in the theater and it was awesome. It could have easily been a little better, but it was great nonetheless. Of course, they killed off the most talented actor they had (apologies to Emma Thompson, but you've done some odd work lately), and that stunk, but it was good for the story. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the final two movies, but my boss keeps spoiling them for me (he reads the books).

So, moving on, are you all having a get-together before the Klingon shindig on the 11th?

I'm a maintenance guy, and I'm on call every other week. I don't venture too far from the apartments I work/live at when I'm on call, but if you're gathering sometime between this Thursday night and next Wednesday night, I'll be off call and would love to come hang out.

    Thanks,

    Vazhya

P.S. I'd really like to get to know other writers. I don't really consider myself a real writer, but I do write, writing interests me, and I have some aptitude. So, I'm exploring the possibility of completing the stories in my head. I'd really love to talk to others who may be somewhere similar.

How did you get started on SW: Well, I got hooked on SW when I saw ROtJ when it was first in the theater. Pretty much been an addict since. My real love in SW is the Mandalorian character.

I'm not "officially" a FF member, but I wanted to come by and introduce myself because I'm sure I will be seeing many of you in costume around some of the events between Charlotte and Winston-Salem. I am the founder of Mandalorian Mercs, the fan club for custom Mandalorian characters. We work with FF, 501st, and other SW costuming clubs around the country. There will be a couple of us from the local clan at MonsterCon, so I am glad to be meeting some of our costuming vode (mandalorian word for Brothers/Sisters) from other clubs. Please feel free to keep me in the loop on any events you guys may want some Mandalorians at.
