How's the winter going? Here? Loving Summer

 

I have NEVER had to do that..........and I feel very grateful for that one!!

 

I requested a trip to the Snowy Mountains here in Australia for my 40th Birthday and after three days of strong winds, icy snow and the misery of itches under snow suits so thick I couldn't scratch myself, I decided I had seen my fair share of snow and would be content if I never saw it again.

 

I love snow but after being stationed at Fort Drum, in upstate NY, for most of my time in the Army, light snow works for me. There it was a (not) joke that there were two seasons, the three weeks of summer and snow.

Yes, actually that is more correct. I knew it was going to be hell for snow when I got there and the fire hydrants had 15 foot poles with flags on them for the fire department to find them in winter.

 

On average, most years, 10+ feet of snow is not unusual. Plus the extra mounding as the snowplows go by also tends to almost completely obscure even that height of flags. One place I lived while assigned there I couldn't use my back door the entire winter as the snow was piled so high and deep against it.

Snow twice as tall as me..........no thanks.........its 25C (77F) here today.....blue sky, sun shining.....who could want more?? Glorious day.

 

It was always fun waking up a hour earlier in winter because you had to dig out the meter high mound of snow at the end of your driveway the snow plow left there when it went by. Of course it wouldn't be just snow because the slurry they used to melt it enough to plow would refreeze and when you were driving a Dodge Neon at the time it would never get over that.

I'm tired, does that count! Nice to see your colourful face here @Dandelo ! I just got home from work, retail (supermarket) this close to Christmas is hell on earth I have decided. And I was asked to work Christmas Eve - that will make today look tame! Worst part of today? Screaming kid "I want to be a good boy!!!" ARGH!! Then stop screaming for a freaking start mate!
