Let's not forget the true meaning of Easter... the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.

Let's not forget the true meaning of the day after Easter... the day when Cadbury Mini Eggs are half price.

    Hear Hear, Dylan!

I say we take out the Easter Bunny (tusken-style) and give the holiday back to the big J.C.

Peter Griffin once said: "Stupid longears, trying to steal Easter away from Jesus." (He got that backwards.)

Personally, I've never eaten a Cadbury egg, and Peeps are just kinda gross.

The true meaning of Easter? Easter is actually the name of Ishtar or Astarte, the Caananite fertility goddess. In various spellings she was a spring or fertility goddess in a number of different cultures. Rabbits were a fertility symbol in the ancient Babylonian system and eggs were also a fertility symbol. Easter was the Heavenly Virgin or Mother Goddess figure and was involved in the symbolism of the golden calf.

Christians assisted in the transition away from pagan beliefs to Christianity by placing their festivals on dates that were already recognized as traditional times of celebration.

So, whether you want to worship an ancient goddess, celebrate the Spring Equinox, or rejoice in a resurrected Saviour, today has something for everyone.
