*blushes* Thanks, Kit, Breezy, Liz, and Mely. It was my pleasure doing up the list. I?m elated that you?re impressed with it, and think it?s satisfactory for the show. I realise there are a lot of categories, but I love variety ? we?ll see how it goes.

Well, Breezy, all I can say is that when you?re voting, you?re the judge of what you think is spot-on and what you think isn?t. If you?ve seen characterisation you love to death, nominate it, and don?t pay any attention to the opinions of fellow readers. It?s your choice. I?m hoping that category will gain a broad assortment of nominations from across the boards.

Amidala: Must say, I'm quite impressed with the organization--nice list and categorization.

I hope this means that we'll see a variety of stories winning, and no "Titanic" type sweeps.

I would suggest re-titling "R's C Non-Original" Character to "Canon Character." Since I think that's what you meant?

    Impressive category list.

I agree that it should be changed to canon character, since Non-Original sounds like the character in question is just a carbon copy.

but what if the non original / canon character is from the EU? How many people would have problems with that?

    Just curious.

(I'm thinking of Jaina, Mirax, Iella, Corran, etc)

Thank you, LP, Renata, and Daughter_of_Yub_Yub. I am impressed by your replies :).

Concerning the alternation of award titles ? I did have that suggested to me, but I did my best to stick close to past categories. I had people comment that they didn?t wish for them to be to complex, and thought that staying close to something familiar might benefit in this circumstance. I will, however, change the title right now. Thank you for your input.

By the way, I?m glad we?ve settled the ?In-Progress? and ?Completed? stories matter.

Liz, such characters are implied to be included in that category. As EU is considered canon, the characters you suggested from the books, are therefore canon ? and will go in the canon categories. I hope I?m making sense.

Thank you, ladies. It's nice to impress.

Now, I thought I'd share with you sections I've been working on, for when the nomination thread is posted. I'm still organising which which order these two will be placed. As per usual, if you have any concerns, please PM me or post in-thread.

By the way, thank you to that user who kindly PMed me with such flattering words.

Thank you to Vader_Incarnate who aided by listening to each point while I was typing it up :).

    Rules, Restrictions, Advisories, and Repercussions

Nominations can be submitted by either PM or in-thread responses. Stories nominated have to be progress between January 1, 2002 and December 1, 2002.

At no point in time are you permitted to nominate or vote for yourself. It is considered unjust to all participants and only further decimates the authenticity of the nominations.

You are not permitted to vote with a sock. Do not think you won?t be found out, because you will.

You are not allowed to vote for a story more than four (4) times. Example: You may vote for ?Clutched Diamonds? in the ?Readers? Choice Drama Story?, ?Readers? Choice In-Progress NJO Story?, and ?Readers? Choice Imaginative Story? categories, and for its author ? but you may not exceed that number. In this case, all categories are counted. Please note: The limit for the number of categories one single author can be nominated is six (6).

Authors: You are not permitted to force your readers into voting. You may advertise that there is an award show in progress, and provide the link, but you are not allowed to enforce conditions on your readers ? such as withholding a promised post ? if they do not vote. If I found out ? or have it reported to me ? that you have broken this rule, the votes for that particular story will all be discounted. That story will be cast out of the running.

It is advised that you place a nomination with at least eight categories filled. This is not mandatory, but recommended. You may choose to ignore this advisory; although it is fairer for all involved if you nominate a variety.

You are advised not to nominate a story due to its popularity. Nominating a story which you enjoy is much more satisfying for yourself and for the author of that said story.

To qualify for the ?in-progress? categories the story has to have been updated in the last three months, otherwise it will be ineligible for nomination.

It is preferable if you provide a link to the story you are nominating. By doing so, it is much appreciated by award staff.

Nominators are advised to provide a paragraph on the story they?re nominating, detailing why they are doing so and what they love about the story. In no circumstance is this paragraph to be discriminative. It is not necessary to complete a paragraph for each story you are nominating ? you only need to do so when you think it is needed. When the awards are presented, these quotes will be posted with the names of the authors missing. Meaning when you write this paragraph, you will not be identified. This is not mandatory, but strongly insisted. This was suggested in the effort to have every author awarded with something ? whether it be a title or an encouraging comment. Consider it a thoughtful review from one user to another.

If the story you are nominating has previously won an award in the category you?ve chosen, it will be disqualified. All tales nominated that have previously won an award, must be in a category they did not have success in. Example: Say a story called ?Crushed Snow? won the ?Best Drama Story? category at the 2002 JCFFA Summer Awards; therefore, it would not be applicable to nominate it in the ?Readers? Choice Drama Story? category. Please note: Only major award presentations (JCFFA) are counted ? the specialised awards (such as the Crown of Naboo and ?I Know?) will not be included.

All nominations are to be checked by myself, and if they do not abide these rules or fit in with the description of the selected ca

Newcomers: No longer then 5 months?! Why not since the last awards ceremony? You just blew me out of the water!!!

I can see many categories where I already know where my vote lies though. I can't wait to see this thing up and running. Fingers crossed at least one of my stories gets in.

Nice job organising this by the way. Certainly hasn't taken long to get this far. Might I suggest mid-December? You see, late December a lot of people are, well, holidaying, visiting family, you get the picture. Away from the computer. They won't want to miss out.

Again, speedy job. If only governments were this fast and this organised...

A clarification? Do you mean WRITING 5 months or posting Stories for 5 months? What is the "cut off" month? Some folks fall in to a grey Area here...

If the nominations are PM'ed to you and not posted, Am, what's the point of having a nomination thread (and you said there would be one)? I'm a bit confused...

*laughs* Thanks, Jade. I hope I?ll see you participating this time around.

*giggles head off* You?re a laugh a minute, V_I. I believe this took be around one hour and a half or something, and I constantly rambled them off to you. It?s amazing you survived.

Jedi_princess, it was recommended a shorter period of time. And five months was as far as I could reasonably stretch it. I don?t know about going back to the other words ? since the ?Newcomer? would have therefore being writing for half a year, and not really a ?newbie author?. Thanks. I was intending to get it off the ground early to mid December ? seems like the logical choice. Lol, I guess not all governments have someone like me ? although I can?t imagine myself John Howard?s right hand woman :p.

What do you define as writing for five months, breezy? I don?t think I understand. Anyway, for clarification, posting stories on the boards for five months. Roughly the cut-off would be around the first of June. That?s as far as I?m willing to stretch it back to. I?ll adjust the category description to mirror that.

Easy question, Tim. We need a nomination thread for several reasons. Firstly, to inform users that the awards are open, show them the categories and information, and then give them the option of nominating. If we had no nomination thread, where would all the information go? People wouldn?t know what was going on. The thread may not have any replies, but it does its purpose by supplying information. I am actually a bit confused why you asked this question, but I hope I?ve answered it.

    Thank you. Anymore questions, please?

    Am -

First of all, great job on the rules. Looks like you've covered all the bases. I'd just like clarification on two points:

    1. I'm a little confused, as Tim said, as to why nominations are PM'ed and not posted. It doesn't make a great difference to me except in one hypothetical situation: Say I know of two vignettes that I think are equally deserving of a nomination. I can't really nominate them in separate categories, since most categories are more applicable to longer stories. If the nominations are posted in a thread, and I see that one of the vignettes already has three nominations for "Readers' Choice Vignette", then I can nominate the other one without a problem. If nominations are PM'ed, I'm in a coin-toss situation. Make sense? :) Like I said, not a huge deal.

    2. The rules say that a single story can only be nominated in four categories. What happens when I like two stories by the same author? Can they be nominated in a total of eight different categories? In other words, is there a limit to the number of categories in which a single author can be nominated?

    Thanks!

    Mina

    Very good points, Mina.

    1) The situation you described is a valid one. It seemed as though everyone would like to vote privately, and not be seen doing so. I thought that would apply to nominating, and therefore made that PM-only. Now, it doesn?t make any big difference to me if that changes, but it depends on one factor: how people want to vote. How would everyone like to nominate?

    2) Great question. Personally, I don?t think I?d boost the limit up to eight. Six sounds about fair. Yes, so six is the limit for the number of times one single author can be nominated.

Does that help? Thanks for commenting.

Got it in One.... I can pick on myself here... Joined JCF in May of this year... posted my very first ficcy (with help from IamZam who also started writing late in her JCF carreer!)

"Return to Coruscant" on July 3 of this year...

It recieved all of 1 reader!!!

(Oh Dally, loyal freind and true who's been there from the start...)

    :p

How would everyone like to nominate?

How about in a thread... and once a story is nominated more than X number of times people are encouraged to find and nominate a second choice insted?

  You know... this MIGHT WORK!!!

I'm very impressed A... you've made jaded me give ths whole fan fic awards thing a second chance...

Stories will progress to the voting stage if they have more than three nominations.

Uh, just a question here, what about those stories being nominated for the "Most Underrated Fic" category, where those stories are eligible which have fewer than seven readers? I can think of some great fics that I'd like to nominate -- unfortunately, sometimes it seems like I'm the only reader! Do I have to put up a sign in those threads begging any lurkers to come and nominate along with me? Or could those stories advance to the voting stage anyway, in order to showcase them for others?

Me, personally, I would go with just one nomination for most under-rated fic to put it through. It might mean that we have several nominees, but that is what that category (to me) is really about.

Besides, like you said Jane, coming up with three or more nominations for a fic with a tiny reader based might be very, very hard to manage.

Here's another question to this paragraph:

At no point in time are you permitted to vote for yourself. It is considered unjust to all participants and only further decimates the authenticity of the nominations.

Does that mean 'vote' as in the final vote, or did you mean to say 'nominate' yourself or your stories?

    Very good observations, Jane.

I?ve now altered the wording so that in the ?Readers? Choice Most Underrated Story? category, stories will progress into the voting around if they have one nomination. Also, you?ll find that your other question has been cleared up.

Thanks for the input. I hope you?ll be participating this time around :).

I've bit my tongue over "in progress" and the 5 month newbie rule (why, Amidala, when AotC came out in May --6 months-- and we got so many joining us then that will be left out?). But I do have to point out that while it IS tacky to nominate yourself, even the President of the United States is allowed to VOTE for himself in elections!

You might want to reconsider that one, Amidala, particularly since voting would be by PM. If an author has one or more stories nominated in several categories, then he or she doesn't get much chance to participate, and certainly wouldn't have any incentive to nominate or vote for anyone else.
