So I wrote Mary Franklin a letter regarding the C3 store. I wasn't rude or mean in the letter, just voicing my opinion. I was really disapointed that the "fast path" thing wasn't used. She sent me what feels like a form letter response.

Don't know if anyone else posted this yet, so here it is. Looks like they will sell even more C3 merchandise online next week for those who missed out.

    -------------------------

Drake, thanks for your comments. I totally appreciate where you are coming from with the Fast Path comments. I was extremely disappointed this didn't come off.

We are very sorry that your experience at the celebration III store was far less than optimal. It was most definitely not the experience that we had planned for fans who attended the event. The store was operated for Lucasfilm by Gen Con LLC, and was in no way related to StarWarsShop.com.

There was a great deal of planning prior to the event, and we at Lucasfilm and Gen Con felt that there were some very good plans in place. However, some of those plans were never implemented, and others were carried out in a less than satisfactory manner.

The quantity of merchandise also was insufficient-even though it was considerably more than ordered for Celebration II-and we at Lucasfilm wish we had had more control over that. The action figure, however, which was the most highly sought-after item, was produced in just the right numbers to both meet demand and keep it highly collectible. The insufficient amount of other merchandise was a major reason that we had re-order forms at the show for a handful of the most popular items that sold out quickly, and had pre-arranged for StarWarsShop to sell a limited quantity of CIII souvenir merchandise on April 25.

To compensate a bit for the lines and other issues, StarWarsShop.com is opening a Celebration III store online for a week to sell some CIII merchandise from May 2-9.

Again, you have our sincere apologies for the long lines, the sometimes middling customer service from untrained temps, the confusion, and the limited quantities of merchandise that you wanted to purchase. Star Wars fans deserve far better treatment. If there is another Celebration, we will take all of these lessons very much to heart.

Excellent, I can get correctly sized shirts. The only problem is that I'm going to keep spending money that I shouldn't.

I noticed she was quick to distance Lucasfilm and StarWarsShop.com from GenCon and the C3 store.

I suspect that for future Celebration events, we won't see GenCon running the show.

I think the key to Mary's statement was there were plenty of well thought out plans that were not followed through with. Which coming from LLC I believe they rarely make mistakes on implementation. I don't know if it was ALL GenCons fault but I think most of it falls more on the type of employees/volunteers they used. As great as the 501st was over the weekend they are an example of bad info., as a result they were often misleading, just one of the examples of well thought out plans gone wrong. I would gladly pay an extra $10 next time for official help/crowd control/etc.

And we all knew StarWarsShop.com wasn't part of the store mess.. they were too busy handing out bracelets! ;)

Awesome! I really like the Lucasfilm handles things. IMHO,they should have run the store from the beginning, instead of GenCon. I think it would have gone alot better. :)

I'd just like to point out that in her letter Mary says they will be selling "some" CIII merchandise online. I don't know if that means leftovers or what, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high that everything will be available again. Maybe it will be, but don't get too worked up...

The store has given us all enough let downs. I'd hate to see anyone get all excited just to be let down again.

Also - I wonder if online purchases are for CIII attendees only? Or open to everyone?

Well hopefully they'll have some of the CIII black logo hats. I wanted one and they sold out just before I got to the front of line. Also the yoda hooded sweatshirt!

Well this is much better than that crapolla email I got back from Shop.starwars.com. Does it really take 3 days to send a two sentance form letter? I am wondering though what happened tot he action figures that were briefly up on shop.starwars? People were complaining that they lost their exclusiveness. I don't know about you but I think ordering from the fan club for 15 bucks is more exclusive than paying 50 on ebay!

As great as the 501st was over the weekend they are an example of bad info., as a result they were often misleading, just one of the examples of well thought out plans gone wrong.

Just for the sake of clarity, the volunteers weren't told anything. Hell, we didn't even know what we would be working. It was basically show up at the desk and go where needed. As for the store itself, I don't think anybody in the store was 501 or RL (other than maybe runners). I haven't heard of anybody working in the store itself. I know when we first went to the store the help they had at the time could barely run the register, and in helping set it up the day before there were no phone lines for the credit card machines to plug into even though some maintained there were. Obviously they got them in time. However, it seems to me that these are things that should be ready to go well before the convention starts, not mere hours before opening (especially in having competent people running the registers so the lines keep moving quickly).

I consider myself fortunate that we were able to get in and out of the store in about two hours--and that was on Thursday morning in the volunteer line. However, I did have to point out to the guy running the register which buttons to push for the stuff I was buying. 5-10 minutes to ring through each person is just incredibly bad.

Nice letter and nice response. But I think that it is bull that they will open an on-line CIII store. This stuff was to be at CIII only. If you did not get it there then you where SOL. I waited 8hrs in line to get what I wanted. When this store opens I hope they they can sell me 8hrs of my life back.
