Does anyone else find it odd how much Edwards is literally behind the camera? I can't think of many other directors that I've seen where they're the one in the gimbal holding the camera.

I'm so glad EW doesn't give me a reason to buy the physical magazine anymore

 

You know, I was willing to buy scheduling conflicts as a reason, but this interview is making me think there's more to the story than we've been told. I'm also super impressed he banged out a full orchestral score in about a month. Hopefully it works on screen. The tidbits sound tantalizing.

I also like that he's willing to point out that the movie has a lot of heart. Maybe this is what the reshoots were there to capture. Especially knowing they delved into Bodhi's backstory more with the reshoots. This is all very exciting!

 

My guess is that the movie needed a tonal shift and the original composer was to dark and quite while they wanted more of a Star Wars feel to it.

 

The scheduling thing was a bit silly from the beginning. There were scheduling conflicts with re-shoots that were always planned? They were trying to have their cake and eat it with that one.

It was pretty clear there was more to the story. Don't forget the Desplat was never officially announced. There were rumors going on far before this about issues with contracts and whatnot, but it all seemed odd from the get go. The fact that there appears to have been work done is interesting, makes you wonder how much and how far in the process.

It only took Handel 40 days to write Messiah, and there's a famous quote by Leonard Bernstein, something like, "all you need to create something great is a plan and not quite enough time".

Really looking forward to this score (and the timpani part, especially, from the sounds of it).
