I was about to ask if you were still doing this, but my binge speed went into hyperdrive. While pulling my all nighter and got to season 3 of rebels lol.

almost done season 3 as of today.

also something I have been really enjoying about rebels and TCW rewatch is that I remember the stories pretty well at least in broad scope, but I really enjoy taking in the animation and camera work more. What I have seen so far from TCW and rebels is for some reason they went back a few steps with rebels. Their camera work basically goes back to season 1 of TCW. I don’t know if they were just trying less hard, but early rebels does suffer because of it.

until I started this rewatch I never really appreciated the shot/camera work in these shows. It’s some great stuff. Especially in later rebels and later TCW. Bad Batch has an unfair advantage as it continues on from TCW so it’s shot work is just great and much more interesting. At least that’s what I remember. We’ll have to see if that holds up when I get to Bad Batch in a few days.

It's always been one of my favorites of all Star Wars television and an arc I like to rewatch. It just has a very epic feel from start to finish and the score by guest composer Takeshi Furukawa really stands out.

It's only years later I realized it's inspired by the French comic artist Moebius too. He's been cited by Filoni and the crew as the inspiration for several planets though including Mortis, Mandalore and Abafar. It makes sense though when you consider Lucas was an avid comic book reader in general. But he actually wrote an introduction to one of Moebius' art books and commissioned some art from him for the 2010 Star Wars Visions book. But the Mortis arc seems like it's specifically inspired by the graphic novel Gardens of Aedena, which is about two engineers who are taken by a pyramid spaceship to a mysterious planet inhabited by ethereal beings and they experience visions. I mean it could just be coincidence but there's some cool similarities I wanted to point out nonetheless since Moebius is one my favorite artists ever and Mortis is some of my favorite Star Wars.

TCW S1 could look pretty cinematic at times. Or at it had good blocking at least. The animation was obviously a lot less fluid, the lighting was less dynamic and they couldn't pull off many big action sequences. Easily the worst looking episodes were the droid ones but those were the first episodes in the production order so it's understandable. There's some really odd visual choices in those two and music has more of an electronic sound than anything else in Kiner's score. Very.. experimental.

I think I was put off more by Rebels S1's animation, by comparison it's very fluid but the characters are overemotive. The movements are very exaggerated, more so than anything TCW did. It must be a stylistic choice though because a lot of the animators on Rebels are the same ones who worked on TCW S7 and Bad Batch and the animation style in those is more in line with TCW S6 and before. But what they did bring with them from Rebels was the great lighting. Because in the later seasons of that show it could look really amazing regardless of how I felt about the rounder character models and animation.

But yeah S2 and S3 of TCW were a huge step up in lighting and looked a lot more cinematic. I remember the behind the scenes videos they'd release back in the day where Filoni and Joel Aron would be talking about how they're constantly improving the look of the show. And if you're near the end of S3 that's really noticeable with the Wasskah environment in the two-part finale. The detail and lighting on that planet is unlike anything they'd attempted previously. They talk about it here.

Yeah, I won't stop, I will eventually complete all of the Star Wars content, but it will certainly last a couple of months and I will most definitely not be done before Ahsoka premieres. I could have forced myself to binge watch twice as much content every day, which would have kept me on pace, but I prioritize having fun over an "obsessive compulsive" need to finish before Ahsoka airs, which was my original thought. On the plus side, I will be done with Clone Wars and Rebels before that happens, so there's nothing pertaining to the show that I won't have fresh. I don't need to watch "The Jedi" from The Mandalorian, as I have watched it literally more than 10 times and it's my favorite Disney Star Wars content along with Kenobi.

Very interesting, I didn't know this!
Unlike the Death Star, which is no moon, Wasskah is a Trandoshan moon, not a planet :p

And yes, as I just watched that episode earlier today, I have to say this is one of the things that make it great. The beautiful environment and the lighting.

I can't wait for Zygerria and Onderon and the rest of the environments in the following seasons.

Yea I am just trying to watch anything that I haven’t seen in a while. Plus ironically I think the Ahsoka episodes in Mando and Book of Boba will have very little baring on the series itself. Other than introducing Elsbeth

Those damn moons. But funnily enough Wasskah was originally going to be Trandosha according to the trivia on SW.com, not sure why they moved it to their moon. I guess it's like a vacation retreat for the Trandoshans.

And yeah Umbara especially I think was informed by the work they did on Wasskah. Even though it's really dark there you can tell it's detailed.

OK so I did a rewatch of the Youngling Arc in Season 5 and its actually enjoyable. I remember when I first watched it and I didn't think it was that great but yeah today for me it's good fun. David Tennant is great as the Lightsaber Droid and after playing Fallen Order, you can see the Ilum callbacks.
The weakness of the arc is Hondo, or rather the fall out or lack of fall out from his actions that the episodes ignore. He attacked a Jedi Ship, his men tried to kill the Children and he was going to sell Ahsoka into Slavery !
Yet its all literally forgotten about by the next episode. Obi-wan even, rolls his eyes and laughs it all off like it was nothing at the end.
1 kid even states "Iv got your back" to him. Like what !! You should be completely distrustful of this guy. She even guilt trips him later by saying "Ahsoka trusted you" He was intending to sell her into slavery, why would her trust in him (which is stupid on Ahsoka's part if true) be a factor.
The episode could have even got round that by having a line by Hondo saying to 1 of his men that it was better to fight with Ahsoka against Grievous than alone or have him realise he needed to make some sort of amends for his actions before the Jedi arrive. I don't know anything.
All in all 7/10 am enjoyable albeit slightly long arc that's better on the rewatch.

Post script After a Revenge of the Sith rewatch "You fool Iv been trained in your Jedi Arts by Count Dooku" Sorry but no way does this line go With Obi-Wan fighting Grevious multiple times like he does in TCW.

    My full review of TCW.

copy and pasted from another thread. Perhaps if the earlier seasons didn’t look the way they were and there were a few more episodes like Weapons factory and Death Trap. It would have beaten rebels

full review of all 13 seasons

    TCW 6, TCW 7, BB 2, Rebels 3, TCW 2, BB 1, Rebels 1, Rebels 2, TCW 5, TCW 4, Rebels 4 TCW 3, TCW 1

I know very unique ranking Rebels season 4 is low because of Heroes of Mandalore. And a few more moments that bugged me.

but I cannot stress this enough I liked them all. TCW season 1 averaged 8.267 per episode and that’s the lowest ranking.

    I love all these shows

hell like 7 of my top ten characters are from them

    1.) Rex
    2.) Sabine Wren
    3.) Tech
    4.) Kanan Jarrus
    5.)Omega
    6.) Obi Wan Kenobi
    7.) Ezra Bridger
    8.) Ahsoka Tano
    9.) Count Dooku
    10.) Fives

it’s even more than I thought. 3 of my top ten characters are TCW originals. And 8 animated originals.

So something I have been thinking about is who is shot the most in Star Wars? The answer on screen without dying is Savage Opress. But if you don’t count that it’s captain Rex. Who is shot a total of 4 times that I recall. So perhaps more.

so really Rex has all the plot armor.

Should have specified. Shot before dying. So the sequence when they actually do die doesn’t count

Savage is shot over 10 times without dying. I guess it’s just a skill issue sorry Aayla

Lucasfilm Singapore has closed permanently. If I remember they did a lot of animation for TCW. Along with the state side studio. I know they outsource it now to a studio in Taiwan for Bad Batch. CGCG I think. Along with relying on the American animation still.

from what I have found Lucasfilm Singapore had nothing to do with the bad batch or Young Jedi Adventures which I think means we can at least be confident there will hopefully be a future for animation at LFL.

ICAM. I was really surprised how many in the PT forums weren't fans. I love TCW. Besides Ahsoka which goes without saying we got the Mandalorians like Bo, Satine, etc.; Asaji Ventress, the Nightsisters who we also just saw in Ahsoka. We got a real deep understanding of who the clones were personally and got to know them and I liked that. I also liked seeing the other Jedi being shown even if only a little like Luminara and others. I could go on. I think it added so much to the lore that has given birth to Rebels, the Mandalorian, and obviously Ahsoka.

What do you guys think of this AI conversation that was created? It popped up in my YouTube feed. I can't say I like it for two reasons. First, I would rather hear a much more lengthy (perhaps 11 or 14 minutes) back-and-forth between Anakin and Palpatine on this matter. Second, I think Palpatine would not be able to make Anakin deferential this easily. He would have to lie more to convince him that he had nothing against Ahsoka. Having said that, I do like the gist of the rest of their conversation. I just think writers and actors would make it a little less...on the nose than this AI did.

But, yes. I'd prefer to hear it from the late great Abercrombie or from Ian McDiarmid himself. As for Anakin, I'd listen to Hayen or Matt. Either one works for me, as both are good. This is what I don't like about AI: taking jobs away from actors or writers.

Granted, I do think there should have been a convo like this in TCW, but I'm a fan of that show (flaws and all).

Great deleted scene. They should have retained this, though. It shows the mutual respect between Yoda and Anakin.

Couldn't agree more. This arc is what made me love TCW as one of my two favorite Star Wars television shows.

    Thanks JKF. :)

As Anakin grew up as Darth Vader he began to harbor resentment towards Ahsoka for walking away from the Order. SPOILER ALERT
You abandoned me! You failed me! He shouted at her through the Force one of the next times they met.
Later when Ahsoka was in her 40's and Anakin was in the Force Netherworld and Ahsoka had an out of body experience they reconciled fully as Anakin completed her training finally, teaching her his final lessons from a life fully lived both in the Light and the Dark.

@study888 Do you think if Anakin hadn't turned to the dark side, and Order 66 hadn't happened, that Ahsoka would have returned to the Jedi? Or would she have continued following her own path?

That's her decision. I don't know one way or the other. One could write an AU going either way.

I think since she eventually was
once more called a Jedi and took on an apprentice
, I lean more towards her eventually rejoining the order than not.

Has anybody else seen this? It's awesome. Truly great work.

This was a wholesome "what if" story. Ahsoka leaves, tells Ahsoka that he's married, and she's like, "Duh." I liked the part in which the video creator sarcastically said of Palpatine, "What a great friend, a guy who actively tries to kill your wife. Yeah. Real pal right there." Everything goes right in this storyline.

I think The Clone Wars is the only Star Wars show that could feasablely go on for decades. There are still so much more potental stories to be told in that 3 year timespan. You could tell compelling story with San Hill or Cat Miin as players. Give Coleman Kcaj a spotlight arc, a Cut Lawquine orgain story.

It is kind of crazy that the war that only lasted three years is the one that got the longest series dedicated to it.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
