So one of the things that both liberals and conservatives attack AOC for is that she was a waitress. There's this flawed idea pervasive in our society that someone must have some kind of business/finance or executive background in order to enter politics. Working class people simply don't know how to run a country, both liberals and conservatives say. And this is internalized by the people. This is one piece of evidence that a political class exists in our country and that this class is within the rich.

Traditionally politicians have held law degrees. Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Julian Castro, Cory Booker, Steny Hoyer, Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, etc., etc. But yeah, your point still stands.

And let's not forget that while economically she has been working class, in terms of education AOC is not even that different from this. She has a B.A. in International Relations from Boston University. This isn't a graduate degree, but is already pretty good for what she ended up doing and undoubtedly helped sell herself a bit in the beginning. She did have some privilege from her education backing her up.

I wonder what AOC's chances would have been if she'd only had a two-year degree, or never attended college, or even had to drop out? I'll bet there are potential AOC imitators out there in that situation who have less confidence than she had in the beginning, and I'll bet they would be great.

Vivec is pointing out something to which I'm inclined to say "yeah, but but", but then I realize he's raising a point that's been raised in Western history for at least the past 800 years.

And this is why I love this woman. She's right. Bernie was fighting for workers, queer people, and the uninsured long before it was popular. He was in favor of gay rights in the 1980s, long before these moderates in the Democratic Party decided to be nice to gay people. He has been in favor of a humane healthcare system and a better education system for a long time.

why isn't AOC running in the leadership contest?

She's too young to be president. Besides, I don't think it would have been a good idea for a democratic socialist to challenge Bernie.

That rally was awesome, and very exciting because it's a sign of what's to come in next few months of the campaign going into Iowa.

A few takeaways: 1) Nina Turner was very, very good. I've been watching her performances over the last few months, and while she's never been bad, I don't know that she had ever turned in an undeniably S-Tier performance on par with other masterful retail politicians like Obama, Trump, or Clinton (Bill). Her performance on Saturday was legitimately first class, I hadn't seen her work the crowd so effortlessly before, and it's a very good sign that she has gotten so good at this. 2) Many centrist/liberal pundits have been downplaying AOC's endorsement, saying it would be more meaningful if it came from someone with more divergent ideology. This is a bit short sighted and doesn't account the fact that it will help Sanders a lot with women over 50, deny the endorsement to Warren (who wanted it baddly), and provide a legitimately exciting surrogate who is in demand both for interviews and rallies. AOC is much more valuable than the "typical" political endorsement. 3) The crowd size was easily bigger than any other candidates' this cycle, and proves again that Bernie's supporters are the most energized. 4) It reinforced the narrative (simple truth imo), that Bernie's candidacy is a movement, not just a presidential campaign. The transition from Tiffany Caban to AOC to Bernie was more than symbolism, it is the embodiment of the Democratic party's future being inspired by its leftist emeritus.

Very inspiring and encouraging all around, I've never felt more confident in Bernie's ability to win it all!

She was awesome, but my favorite Nina Turner's performance is the speech in Brooklyn, "The measure of a man".

She was at the Bernie rally in Charlotte that I attended. I wasn’t familiar with her before then but she gave a great speech.

Unfortunately, my state does not have a primary until May. So, donating to Bernie feels like the main thing I can do to contribute to a potential victory.

I am more than ready for the next era in our history, and I hope that Justice Ginsburg is right when she says that we will look back on this time as an aberration.

The mask comes off from the liberals: they only care about themselves. They don't want to fight for others. Phrasing that selfishness as woke though takes a new level of out of touch I've never seen before.

Sooner or later I'd have to ask you this question: how the hell do you always manage to find the dumbest possible comments on the internet, and why do you feel the need to share their cringiness with all of us?
Who cares about the opinion of "feyandstrange in zombie mode post-con" ??? Why does it matter?

    1) I have my sources, and if I had to suffer reading this, so do you! Count yourselves lucky I can't post NSFW stuff here.

1)I mean, who cares about the opinions of 3sm1r and Lord Vivec? The answer is probably no one, but like us, these people exist, vote, and share a planet with us. They have a pulpit and the stuff they say affects the opinions of their followers. Right now, someone looked at that post and said: "yes, I finally have the justification to not care about poor people while still looking progressive." And then they went into work and harmfully interacted with someone. These are real people doing real things that affect us all.

Fair enough, we are communist after all, we must equally share the dumbness of random people. :p

At least we are part of a community. I wouldn't say we are friends, but I think we can fairly argue that we have a stronger interest in each other's opinions with respect to complete strangers.
