Gaming Older games you'd like to see remade

For simplicity's sake we'll define an "older game" as a game that is at least ten years old. Also this shouldn't be confused with remaster. Think more along the lines of Final Fantasy VII Remake or Black Mesa.

Understandably, a lot of very popular games are getting remade like the aforementioned FFVII or Resident Evil 2 earlier this year. But I also want to see remakes of games that were more obscure and never quite got the spotlight. So with that said the first game that comes to my mind is....

Microsoft Ants!



You may recall this from the MSN Gaming Zone days in the late 90s/early 2000s. It's a multiplayer RTS game where you control a colony of ants and are trying to gather the most amount of food before time runs out. It was simple, goofy, and a ton of fun. I think a modern take on it could be awesome. So bring back Ants, I say!

I'd love to see the Myst games (at least Myst and Riven) remade, although Riven is still gorgeous to look at 20+ years later.

 

There's realMyst: Masterpiece Edition and as for Riven there's The Starry Expanse Project, which is a fan made remake that's been in development for years now. No idea when/if they'll finish it.

After seeing footage of the upcoming Link's Awakening remake on Nintendo Switch, I'm now firmly of the mindset that both Oracle games of the Zelda series need to be remade in that same fashion (and both put on the same game cart for Hylia's sake).

Also, my dream remake would be Zelda II with the graphical art style of Wario Land: Shake It.

 

The original version ported over to newer operating systems, is available on www.gog.com for a very nominal fee.

I know they redid in 2002 but they could really do it so differently now.

 

How on earth we don't already have a remastered Mass Effect original trilogy, I'll never know. EA has to know it would be a goldmine. I desperately want to replay those games, and right now it looks like I might have to wait for PS5 and hope it's backwards compatible with PS3 discs. Which is insane. You'd think a company as money-hungry as EA would understand the value in remasters these days.
