S4 was an interesting way to see how these characters function in lives on their own (the answer, apparently not very well!) I still thought it was funny and cool to see where they ended up. the fact the Bluths were separated was an actual theme of the season and we see them sort of flounder without their family (the odd thing about Arrested Development is, as crazy as these people are, they do need each other) so I'm hoping S5 will truly bring the ensemble back to bounce off each other and have much happier endings than the series of mostly downer cliffhangers everyone ended on.

Netflix has a much more amount of cachet (and cash!) just a few years later so hopefully they can get the whole crew together for a sustained amount of episodes.

i kind of feel like if they couldn't get everyone together they wouldn't do it. it was such a glaring problem in the last season. hopefully the reason they're doing one more is that they realize season 4 was a bit crap and want to go out on a better note. sort of like the beatles getting together one last time to do abbey road.

 

And then releasing Let It Be afterwards.

season 5 "real soon". "remixed" season 4 friday.

 

I didn't care for season 4 because it was so disjointed. Maybe this will fix it.

 

There's a lot of quality stuff in Season 4, but the format and overlong episodes tended to drown some of that out. Excited to see they're remixing it and that may change some people's minds.

Faster, more intense. Just like Arrested Development should be.

haven't seen AD Season 4 since it aired (maybe rewatched one or two eps) and was going to rewatch S4 before Season 5 anyway so horray for alternate remix versions!

 

I believe Hurwitz has said that the original intention of Season 4, since it was literally one of the very first "drop a whole season at once" releases on Netflix, was that people would jump mid-episode into another episode and see the connections between the storylines. I didn't do that anyway but took it for it's "character centric" episode POV's instead. I'm sure there must have been some connections I missed so seeing it strung together might work decently.

 

The last season was way too dark. Why would they include drug usage?

 

I'm up to episode 13 (shut up) and the remix working for me much better than the original edit did.

 

What's the deal with the remix edit?

 

Just watched the 1st ep but it's sorta chronological and has the characters all together at once (via the miracle of editing). The original had them all together in snippets in one scene broken out across various episodes. You know how in the original they kept cutting back to the aftermath of Lucille taking off with the boat in each character's episode, instead it's all just one shot in a single 22 minute ep. But even stuff that happened in the first episode of the original version, Michael moving into Sudden Valley and with George Michael, don't happen at all in the 1st ep.

Also I totally forgot that building a wall between the US and Mexico in Arrested Development Season 4 in 2013 was supposed to be an absurdist joke.
