Alpha-Red checked the main page of the English Wikipedia to find out that French troops under General François Oscar de Négrier defeated a numerically superior Qing Chinese force at Nui Bop in northern Vietnam on this day during the Sino-French War of 1885.

He also checked the main page of the German Wikipedia to find out (with a bit of help from Google translate) that the Prussian Field Marshall Alfred von Schlieffen died on this day in 1913.

jp, you seem like the perfect choice for this assignment. but none of those threads was started on the 4th, all of them ended on the 3rd, and where you are isn't it the 5th?

 

Its the 5th here, and the board tells me they were all started on the 4th, so I guess it's taking my time zone into account. Or something.

 

Maybe I should stick with "today" my time, which probably translates into "today" your time?

eg. Problems with Weekly Computer Maintenance (aka, don't ever change, valyn).

On Jan. 5, 1914, Henry Ford, head of the Ford Motor Company, introduced a minimum wage scale of $5 per day.

 

That was a boon at the time. It doubled wages. I get the impression Ford did look after his employees even if for no better reason that getting better production. Too bad his views on unions was, shall we say, violent.
