I can't tell if he built it into an actual hill or he constructed it from scratch.

Maybe they'll create another company with a legendarium name. Laurelin and Telperion Biotech?

    Go Yavanna.

Nice to see he's getting lots of appreciation. I love what he's doing for the Silmarillion. His commentary on Turgon is particularly interesting.

I like it a lot so far. The tone reminds me a great deal of Percy Jackson's narration in Greek Gods.

The akallabeth is one of my favorite parts of the silmarillion. It's got a human empire, a scheming Sauron, a failed war against the gods, a lot of biblical allusions, and is just a very good story.

So I was thinking of the best things to adapt-if Amazon had rights to the silmarillion and HoME.

    *The Akallabeth
    *Beren and Luthien
    *The Children of Hurin
    *The war of the jewels
    *The story of Turgon

Aragorn's story is something they have the rights to but honestly I don't see how it can be done well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: portraying Aragorn's youth is the least interesting and intuitive thing they can do when there's so much stuff in the first, second, and early third-ages to go through. Sure, he was Thorongil, that's kind of cool, whatever, we've seen that kind of thing before and it's not like there's even a lot of information about that time for them to go off of. I think it's like a paragraph at most (not counting Arwen stuff)?

If they have to pick something from the third age, my top three choices would be:
    1. War between Dwarves and Orcs
    2. The rise of the Witch-king and fall of Arnor
    3. History of Rohan from Eorl through Helm Hammerhand

Kin-strife could be pretty cool too.

it is an adaptation, couldn't they just move some events around to have happened during Aragon's shiftless layabout phase?

I’ve read The Simarillion many times, and it never gets old.

In fact, I think I’ll go home and pick it up yet again.

That depends on how well this show does and the same goes with second spin off they have as a possibility too. I am betting we will get some silmarillion continunies. But lets see how this tv series plays out.

They don't have the rights to the silmarillion and as long as Christopher Tolkien lives they won't and given copyright law and whatever legal arrangements the estate under his direction have made they likely won't for decades.

Christopher Tolkien has actually given up his rights now, and officially retired.

I think the situation with respect to stuff CT actually worked on (The Silmarillion &c.) might be more complicated because of his copyright claims beyond the scope of the estate. Consequently I'm not expecting any license holders to even fart in the direction of The Silmarillion until he's dead.

    At which point, well...

If anything, the three final volumes by Christopher Tolkien should be a guide; Beren, Turin, Tuor.
Or do some original stories and characters. The RPGs have good ideas for setting timeframes; ICE's default was the during the height of the division between the remnants of Armor circa 1600 TA , while Cubicle 7 went with 5 years following The Hobbit.
Started rereading the History of Middle-Earth from the beginning. So wonderfully fascinating. It's amusing to read in the foreword that Christopher Tolkien seemed dubious that the series would go on that long...
