This used to be my race-planning thread--now I'm opening it up to anybody who wants or needs advice on a high-speed chase scene. Could be pods, could be speeder bikes, could be starfighters or freighters. I've outlined a bunch of completed and upcoming races below. If y'all feel like outlining a high-speed scene and seeking after advice, have at it! :D

Story title: "Credit to the Race"
    Planet: Kashyyyk
    Race title: Wroshyr Rally
Start/finish line: Promenade in capital city of Rwookrrorro
Profile: Track winds through the city before reaching an exit ramp and descending down wroshyr tree limbs toward the forest floor. Some trees may be hollow, some may have enormous, solid fungi big enough to support vehicular traffic. Track proceeds several thousand meters along the planet's surface before starting to climb and circle back up to Rwookrrorro.

Story title: "Card Players, Gamblers, and Scoundrels"
    Planet: Ord Mantell
    Race title: Bright Jewel
    Start/finish line: Worlport
Profile: Worlport abuts the Ord Mantell Junkyard, which comprises the first leg of the racetrack. An old stellar energy plant will be part of the next leg, and the plains of Ord Mantell, punctuated by some outstanding landforms, will guide the race back toward the casino district. Gamblers will be able to bet on the race as it passes right by them and returns to the start line.

    Story title: "A Powerful Ally"
    Planet: Malastare
    Race title: Sebulba's Legacy
    Start/finish line: Pixelito Speedway
Profile: Begins on the speedway before heading through a gap in the wall and out toward a methane lake. (Up to you guys whether it goes around or across the lake.) Twists and turns constantly through the mountain forests--an underground segment can be almost assured--and then returns to the speedway.

    Story title: "Bad Motivator"
    Planet: Naboo
    Race title: Naberrie Classic
Start/finish line: Main street of Theed
Profile: To quote Tim, the racers will be Burning Through the Abandoned, Ruined City of Theed and will eventually hit the dried-up estuary. They will head straight for the ex-waterfall and free-fall into a specially constructed passageway. This will take them through the planet core to Otoh Gunga, where they will race several blocks and then head back to the surface. Edit per Tych: They will cross the Gungan/Federation battlefield back to Theed, this time entering a not-quite-man-made tunnel in the cliffs. They will be returned as such to the starting line.

    Story title: "Father's Bounty"
    Planet: Corellia
    Race title: Starline Derby
    Start/finish line: Treasure Ship Row
Profile: Beginning at the bazaar, the race burns up the streets of Coronet for several kilometers before diving into the Selonian Tunnels. Lots of fancy maneuvering will be involved before the racers break out of a heavily wooded knoll and race along the Gold Beaches around Coronet. When they reach the suburbs, they will loop back into the city and return to Treasure Ship Row.

Story title: "Raiders of the Lost Jedi"
    Planet: Ossus
    Race title: Ossus 500
Start/finish line: former Gardens of Talla
Profile: Every pod racer who wants to try it will enter in this race, which gets its name from its 500-kilometer total length. Hundreds of pod racers will blaze from the Gardens of Talla to the site of the Great Jedi Library, across the remains of the Knossa Spaceport, and close to Ysanna turf in the mountains of Ossus. And the race will be affected by a significant disturbance in the Force...

Well for one thing, you could easily have a couple of realy scary (and dangerous) freefalls of Kashyyk, maybe trminating a drop by landing on the branch of a wroshyr (sp?) tree. And I'm not sure how long the race on Naboo would be, but it might be cool to pass over the field where the battle of Episode I took place. As for Ossus, perhaps a slight detour to the location of Master Ood's former location might be in order, with the Force especially concentrated around that spot. That's it for ideas now, I'll let this work around in the back of my head while working on a couple of papers.

    Force be with you,

A pod race on Coruscant would be awesome.

Hmmmm, that it would. Well, let's see what I can design and then I'll edit this later.

OK, designed a couple of new ones. These aren't going into any stories just yet--heck, I may break down and have two races in one story at some point.

    Planet: Aquilaris - Bodah Isles
    Race title: Port City Podrace
    Start/finish line: Mackinoll Hall
Profile: As Aquilaris is an ocean planet, this race stretches amongst several small islands. Beginning on the road in front of Mackinoll Hall, the race will make a sharp loop, skirt the edge of a bluff, and then dive into a meandering undersea tunnel. The racers will have to avoid high-speed transports as they make their way through the tunnel, then race a few blocks along a thickly populated island before heading onto a dramatically high bridge. This takes them to another island dominated by a city, after which they will head back the way they came to Mackinoll Hall.

    Planet: Coruscant
    Race title: Rush Hour
    Start/finish line: Beneath Imperial Palace
Profile: As bustling as Coruscant is, it will be much harder than the racers expect to make their way along the city blocks on the surface. At a few different points, they will be crossing some suspended bridges over the city streets. Eventually they will head into a power facility and down into the lower levels of Coruscant, reaching the planet's surface at some point. Up to you guys how long they stay down there before circulating back up to the palace.

Dagobah, hm? I've certainly thought about doing one of those. Where the Living Force is so prevalent on Dagobah, that might add an interesting spice to the scene.
