    1. Somebody complained about tv shows being shot in "faux" wide-screen. Well, some are actually shot in true wide-screen so they can be more easily re-run in the future (when they hopefully also be will broadcast in a wide-screen format). This includes ER. Some are actually shot wide-screen but shown cropped to the old-style 4:3 screen. This includes many seasons of The X-Files.

    2. No, buying a wide-screen tv with a 16:9 (same as 1,75:1) screen ratio will not get rid of all the black bars. Most theatrical movies (including the SW films) are shot in an aspect ratio of 2,35:1. This leaves thin black stripes even on newer tv sets.

    3. The wide-screen issue is more complex than just a better/worse debate. When discussing different films, you always have to know how it was originally shot, theatrically shown, and how the transfer to video/DVD was made.
