yep. 300 deaths. 14,000 cases. The first death outside China, but still a Chinese national who had traveled from Wuhan. By way of comparison in terms of how lethal the disease is, the ongoing ebola outbreak in DRC has 3,400 confirmed cases and about 2,250 deaths, with 1,100 survivors.

More British citizens evacuated from Wuhan - this time on a French flight. Eleven people will be quarantined with the bunch that flew back on Friday.

 

Overall it's impressive how quickly immigration services and public health agencies around the world can react/have reacted. Air travel as the primary vector for spreading the disease globally makes things a bit more manageable.

 

Yeah - UK at least has acted pretty quickly to quarantine folks who might have it. Treatment is another matter - one of the papers said today there are only about 30 beds in places that could isolate and treat the disease.

 

No joke: Took the train in the morning to go to work. Usually it's really full and you do not get a seat.
Today it was full again but I saw that at the end of the car there are seats so I made my way through the crowd to get there.
There were actually 3 places left in that compartment ..... because a Chinese lady was sitting there........
I enjoyed my seat.
