A teacher friend of mine received her first vaccine dose last Wednesday, and followed that up the next day with a positive Covid test. She believes she picked it up from the urgent care facility she was at the previous weekend.

This of course just makes me even more nervous about move in this week. We were bad in the Fall, but bringing back students now in the winter makes me terrified. And yet... we're doing it.

Man, it’s really getting around now. I’m gutted to hear that COVID has found you, @anakinfansince1983. I hope this is one of those mild cases that comes and goes and leaves you none the worse for the wear!

Incidentally, I was planning a trip to the grocery store after work today. Just a quick trip, only to get a few things and get out, I told myself, fully masked. Now I’m just going to order online instead and do curbside pickup.

We're looking at a third ("soft") lockdown starting at the end of this week here - basically we've plateau'd around 20k new cases daily and 300 daily deaths since the last lockdown was lifted. Which was tenable with the old variants, but the worry is the more aggressive variants might blow up our healthcare system by March if nothing changes.

It's going to face quite a bit more opposition this time than the times before, too. Let's hope this doesn't lead to violent protests, as has started occurring in other European countries that locked back down recently...

 

Did that FFP2 mask requirement being floated go through? There's been rumblings here since the Austrians just implemented one, but the government's hesitant for obvious reasons.

 

The logistics aren't there in France for that, so no, the topic hasn't come on the table.
