Kyp shifted in his position as he watched the technicians scurry about his X-Wing, working to replace the life support system. He hated seeing his fighter in pieces, and he hated it more when he couldn?t fly. Occasionally one of the tech?s would look his way and mutter something to one of the others, who would also look in his direction before they would both hurry back to whatever they were doing.

?You look lost.?

?I feel lost.? He looked up as Jaina dropped down beside him, her own eyes looking towards her own fighter. ?How?d it go with your mother??

?You heard about that, then.? She sighed, resting her head back against the wall and closing her eyes. ?Oh, it was nothing. Just a couple of politicians wanting an escort through Vong space so they could get to their planets. As soon as they heard that the squadron was down, that was it. They didn?t want any more to do with me. Not that I care that much.?

Kyp smirked. ?Good. One less hindrance.? He nodded to the X-Wings. ?You know, I think we just found a good side to all of this.?

Jaina smiled, opening her eyes to look at him. ?That?s what I?ve been thinking. I said that to Mum, but I don?t think she sees things the way we do.?

?She fights on a different front, therefore her view of the war is different.? He looked down at her. ?So who was that guy??

Jaina paused, frowning, before realisation crossed her face. ?Oh, him. His name is Johanas Ricc. He?s one of the smugglers the Republic has been hiring to do the supply and refugee runs. At the moment he?s working for my Dad, and that?s all I know.?

Kyp raised an eyebrow. ?And??

Jaina rolled her eyes. ?And he?s taking me out for a drink tonight.?

Kyp nodded. ?First impressions??

?He?s got manners...?

?He?s a lady?s man. That?s why he?s got manners. He uses them to win woman into his graces, seduces them, sleeps with them, leaves them.? He brushed a loose strand of hair from his eyes. ?Nine times out of ten the lady is left holding a baby.?

Jaina glared at him. ?You haven?t even met him-?

?I have, actually. I ran into him coming out of your father?s office when I was going in to see him about a little errand I ran for him while you were out of it. He?s got charms? when he feels like using them. One track mind focused on one thing when he?s not working. Like you said about men, Jaina, about being like ?freshers. This one is full to the brim with-?

?That?s not nice Kyp.?

?It wasn?t meant to be.? He shrugged. ?I probably fall under that category too, knowing you.?

Jaina smiled faintly, looking back across to where they were working. ?We?re going to be grounded for a while yet, so I?ve got plenty of time to worry about other things at the moment. Apparently, while putting in the new systems, they?ve discovered that they are short of screws.?

Kyp raised an eyebrow. ?I don?t know. Considering how desperate people are for something to do, there has been quite a few-?

He grinned and winked at her, laughing softly. ?Sorry Goddess.?

lol, there sure have been quite a few screws for Jaina recently.

I have a good joke about that, but I'll wait for some other day to put it up because I have to get reading the rest of the stories too!

I have to say, compared to just about every other writers (including myself), you're very good when it comes to updating. It's nice to read a new post every morning before I head off to school. Spanish test tomorrow... uh-oh...

Jaina smiled as she saw Johanas waiting for her at the entrance to the gallery. ?Good evening Johanas.?

He smiled at her, bowing his head and kissing her hand. ?You look lovely, Jaina.?

Her cheeks glowed faintly as he led her toward a small table for two in a far corner. One part of the gallery had been set aside solely for the purpose of couples eating out together. On several occasions she and Jag had come there for a meal, followed by...

She shook the memory off. Here and now was not the time to think about things like that.

As she waited for him to bring their drinks, she looked off to the side and caught Kyp and Jacen hurriedly looking back down at their food as if that was what they had been doing all along. Come to keep an eye on me have you?

Reaching into the Force, she sent mental images of her father in her mother?s gold bikini. She tried to hide her smile as she saw them both gag before running from the room faster then she thought possible without using the Force. Then it dawned on her; how would she know what her father looked like...?

?So what do you want to eat?? Johanas asked as he set her glass down.

?Oh, that?s all right, I?m not really that hungry.? Jaina drew in a deep breath, trying to calm her stomach. Bad images, very, very bad images.

Johanas frowned, emerald eyes filling with concern. ?Are you okay? You look a little... unwell.?

?No, I?m fine.? Jaina sipped her drink, frowning, as she tasted something other then what she had ordered. Spiked it, did you?

Johanas took a long swig from his own glass before letting his gaze move around the room. Noting a plant next to the table, she tipped some of the contents of her drink into it while he was looking the other way.

Looking off to the side once more, Jaina spotted her father in a back corner, brown gaze resting on her. He raised his glass to her in a mock salute before taking a drink from it. Jaina rolled her eyes. How many others were watching her? A smile flickered across her face as she thought of a way to get rid of him.

Reaching out with the Force, she sent him an image of Jacen in the bikini. She watched as one of his eyebrows raised slightly, a smile flickering across his face. Jaina frowned, trying again, this time sending an image of Kyp. Her father burst out laughing, almost dropping his glass and falling off his seat.

As a last resort, she sent an image of Lando.

Han stopped laughing in an instant, his face turning a deathly pale. He slowly lowered his glass onto the table before easing himself up and cautiously walking without looking back from the room.

Jaina smiled at her success, before it dawned on her what she had done. Jacen she could handle. Kyp...? Well, she actually liked that image. But Lando...

Standing, she smiled at Johanas. ?Actually, I do feel a little unwell. I think I had better retire for the day.?

Nodding, he stood. ?Let me escort you back to your room.?

Kyp moved through the corridors toward his quarters, stepping passed a door before slowing and moving back to it. He paused, wondering whether or not he should, but never got the chance as the door opened by itself, a voice calling him inside. Stepping into the room, he saw her lying on the bed.

?I made myself sick,? she told him before he could ask.

?I would imagine that an image like that would,? he replied. ?I beat Jacen to the ?fresher in case you?re wondering.?

?Never doubted that you wouldn?t.? She shook her head. ?It wasn?t the image I sent you either, it was the one I sent my father.? She frowned. ?Or at least the last one I sent my father.?

?Which was??

?First I sent one of Jacen in the bikini.? She watched as Kyp winced. ?Then I sent one of you in the same. Neither of those did anything, so I sent one of Lando.?

Kyp choked back a sob as he dropped into the chair by her desk. ?Jaya, has anyone ever told you that you?re sick??

?Not for a long time. Must be your influence.?

Kyp frowned. ?So it was the image of Lando that made you sick. I can understand why Jacen wouldn?t have effected you, but what about this one of me? The way you said it it?s almost like that had no impact either.?

Jaina paused. How ?had? it effected her? ?I guess I found it rather amusing as well. I mean, you?re supposed to be one of the toughest and hardcore Jedi around, so an image of you in women?s clothing...?

?Ha ha, very funny.? Kyp leant back in the seat, tipping it back on two legs. ?Apart from that, how did the date go??

?Well, Johanas spiked my drink-?

The chair crashed back down onto all fours. ?He what??

Jaina winced at the tone of his voice. ?I didn?t drink much, only a sip. I tipped the rest into the pot plant by the table. There was no harm done, and next time I?ll get my own drink from the bar.?

?Sounds like a good idea if you ask me.? He clenched his fists before relaxing them on his legs. "If he ever tries anything, I swear I?m going to-?

?Just remember what happened last time you were in a fight. You?ll end up court-marshalled. They don?t like you remember? They?re just waiting for you to do something so they can kick you out and lock you up.?

?I?ll bet.? A smile flickered across his face. ?I?ll just tell your father, and he can handle it.?

?Now that?s cruel, on Johanas?s part anyway.?

?Perhaps, but it would be fun to watch.?

?Probably.? Jaina laughed, looking a lot better for it. ?How do you do it, Kyp??

He frowned. ?How do I do what??

?Whenever I feel bad, you always seem to make me feel good. How do you do it??

He shrugged. ?I don?t know. Maybe it?s just that my sense of humour is a lot similar to yours.? He paused. ?That?s kind of sad, actually.?

Jaina smiled, getting up off the bed as he stood. She crossed the room and hugged him. ?Thank you.?

?You are very welcome.? He reached up; messing up her already disarrayed hair. ?You just look after yourself Jaya. I?m not always going to be around to pull you out of your slumps.?

She frowned. ?What does that mean. You?re not old-?

?Reassignment,? he told her. ?But the other thing is possible. We are at war after all.?

?I guess.?

As he stepped out of the room, he glanced back and caught her smiling after him before the door closed, the barrier once more between them.
