parralel universe fic... how does it work? you decide.

something i have been pondering on for a while is a parrelel univers fic... that it, i wrte the first chapter, and people take that chapter, and whenever they feel like it, add thier own story too it.
the only problem is, im not sure how popular it would be, and i would like a few votes on an era. (i was thinking of starting in the Purge)

this would be open, so anybody could write from the first chap, making thier own story. if your story is one extra chapter, or a whole series, it doesnt matter, post it..... but first, the problem of what ere we will work on... so post your vote, along with wherever or not you will be joining (i will need to add your name to a list)
here. when we have decided on a suitable era (VOTE PURGE!!!) then i will write the opening chapter. anything you wish to be in the opening chapter, post it along with your vote (not all requests will be possible, even in the correct era)

sounds like you're thinking of a round robin story: you write first part and whomever else drops by writes each succeeding chapter?

 

close, but i geuss its like the films. i write the first chap (or film, in Georges case) and then us guys continue with our own stories, spiralling off in different directions, but all start after the first chap.

and someone else writes
chap 2(parralel to first, true chap 2)



ect. the main chars may die in one story, or join the darkside in another.

 

That sounds more like a challenge prompt, with the first chapter serving as an interesting prompt to leap off on.

It could be fun, if done well. It would be a lot of work, on your part, to manage it properly, not that that should discourage you.

 

i geuss the only thing it would resemble is george lucas making ANH, and us lot comin along and making vader die in the first movie or luke join the empire (in our fan fic)

it shouldnt require too much management once its up n runnin

 

I'm really confused. If you just want scenes from the movies rewritten then that has already been done and this thread needs to be locked. Prequel Trilogy Rewrite Contest and here is the one for the original trilogy. Classic Trilogy rewrite contest

 

this is nothing to do with the films, it is a a story tht i write, but i was comparing it to what we do with A stories.

I think what he's trying to explain is something like this:

Originating author writes chapter 1 to establish the base story. Then he writes chapter 2.

Next person rewrites chapter 2 as though from a parallel universe, where something has changed in a small way (or a very very big way). They then continue the story into chapter 3.

Next person rewrites chapter 3 with a new altered detail...writes chapter 4.

Etc.

That sound like what you mean, EK?

I would imagine that something extra like a mandatory POV-shift during chapter rewrites would have to be included in the rules to keep things from getting too redundant.

the difference is
1.Originating author writes chapter 1 to establish the base story. Then he writes chapter 2.
2.Next person rewrites chapter 2 as though from a parallel universe, where something has changed in a small way (or a very very big way).
3.but, they spin off, with thier own stories, doing either just chapter 2, or an entire series of chapters.
4. all of the people who join in start on chapter two, and make thier own version.
5. i may join in every now and again, with my own story.

so in effect, its a load of spin offs.

I think I get it.

EK Starts Chapter 1 & 2. Then anyone can jump in and rewrite chapter 2 making minor of major changes. that virsion of chapter 2 becomes that authors universe to do with as he pleases.

another author comes in and rewites the original chapter two his way and goes off into his own universe.

so basicly it is to see how many stories can originate from a common starting chapter, chapter 1, without being the same story.

well, I notice that is didn't get going, but I just thought some of you might like to know I have a similar thing started, except instead of rewriting a chapter, you just build off the last ones. So, I think if any of you were interested in this idea, you very well might be interested in mine. Check out the concept in this Fan Fiction Resource section on the thread "Please participate in a story any writer (and any number of writers) can contribute to!" Also, check out the story in the Before the Saga section; the story's thread is named "The story any writer can contribute to! Title: A Jedi and a Fugitive." If you are interested, please go ahead and write the next section/chapter of the story and post it.
