    There is no logic to it. it just looks cool, like capes on snowtroopers.

    I could actually see the logic of the lower-body cold-weather cover, but I don't know why they'd be wearing them on a moist, tropical, fungal planet. Aayla Secura certainly looked warm enough. It's probably some Mandalorian thing that went from functional to "kewl", and no longer makes sense...

    The snowtrooper uniform is odd anyway. Why exactly do you need a colder-weather uniform when you see normally-dressed stormtroopers standing around on the surface of the Death Star IN SPACE and apparently being quite comfortable? :p

    Way back on like Page 1 Ophelia brought up how Maul stands in a deep lunge all the time, and mentioned how it was a highly aggressive posture in fencing.

    I've spent the last day or so thinking about that, and I've come to a conclusion: it's not just because Maul is extremely aggressive. It's also due to the nature of his chosen weapon.

    Maul (obviously) uses a staff weapon. Now, holding a weapon like this in a straight up-and-down fashion would render you clumsy, particularly with Maul's overall size; he hasn't got very long arms, and he's not particularly tall. However, holding it across you body would allow for exceptional leverage, and keeping your feet more than shoulder-width apart and your knees bent enhances stability. Maul, as I'll show below, is a very physically strong fighter, particularly upper-body wise, and his stance and weapon maximizes that.

    One: The stance

    Two: establishing that he keeps his feet far apart even when moving.

    [image=http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/Chrlsgain/vlcsnap-10497268.png]

    Three: About to throw Qui-Gon like a rag doll. Qui-Gon swings, Maul intercepts, and...

    [image=http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/Chrlsgain/vlcsnap-10500395.png]

    Four: Maul throws a man nearly a foot taller and probably considerably heavier with impressive ease, and turns him completely around, no less. If it'd been a two-person fight, Maul probably could've killed Qui-Gon right then.

    Five: Maul literally pulls Obi-Wan off-balance.

    [image=http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/Chrlsgain/vlcsnap-10503150.png]

    Six: A very rare vertical strike that I think might well have been just a feint; continuing downward with the blow looks awfully awkward.

    [image=http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/Chrlsgain/vlcsnap-10505716.png]

    Seven: another example of how Maul always keeps his feet apart.

    [image=http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/Chrlsgain/vlcsnap-10505814.png]

    Eight: A good example of how Maul mixes exceptional stability with a high level of agility.

    The wide posture definately is rooted in Ray Park's Wushu background. His balance is phenomenal.

    I just can't be less impressed with Maul, who's maybe 5'5", tossing the noted human tree Qui-Gon like it's nothing. :p

    Did anyone see the Clone Wars TV preview in which Filoni says that Anakin is trying to teach Ashoka to learn his style, which means getting rid of her reverse grip hold on the lightsaber?

    I still think it's a silly grip on which to base one's entire style of fighting?

    Kind of like the lightsaber tonfa, which is an extremely inefficient weapon. As is the nunchaku. The reason why these were weapons in karate is because the Yamato forbade the Okinawan from wearing swords. The Okinawans therefore adopted farm implements. That's not to say a samurai couldn't be defeated by someone holding nunchaku's, but a cutting sword works faster if it hits than a bludgening nunchaku. Oops, I think I just made the case for lightsaber tonfa.

    It's not such a bad stance when you consider 99% of Jedi fighting is blaster-bolt deflection. Ahsoka's not likely to be crossing blades with Count Dooku anytime soon. :p
